From what i've learned, .458 is something you use for hunting really big game (it's a semiauto .45-70). It will go through a lot of shit, so probably not a good thing to use in HD. Limited mag capacity as well.

A friend of mine has a .458 upper. It's fun to shoot, but very ammo sensitive. We had to mortar the thing a couple of times when we used a certain brand of cartridge.

The .458 has a much wider selection of bullets if you're gonna reload your own.

Yes, if you hit something with it in a vital area it will never get up again, and the bullets are not phased by shrubbery.

Not really. The bullets, despite being huge, do not have the velocity to defeat even magnum pistol rated body armor, and it has limited capacity.
