Is budget body armor worth the money?
>>
I find it hard to imagine a situation in which you expect to be shot at but don't want to pay an extra few hundred.
>>
>>31187360
Not OP, but I'm poor.

LA riots?
>>
>>31187350
along this vain, what's the difference between plate carriers and body armor (e.g, 'bullet proof vest')

I'm too normie.
>>
When it comes to protecting your life it's not something to skimp on..
>>
>>31187535
vests are typically just kevlar, which stops pistol rounds, not rifle rounds or knives

plate carriers have plates which, gee wiz, stop rifle rounds and knives (mil issue ones have space for kevlar inserts to go inbetween you and the plates
>>
>>31187535
A vest is just a vest, usually Kevlar and works best for smaller caliber rounds, a plate carrier isn't armor, it's a rig you wear that you can put armored plates inside it and those can stop some rifle rounds depending on what you get.

Not exactly a budget armor question but I'm looking for something low profile I could wear under a baggy button down or rain jacket(Floridafag). Found link/pic related, looked good and they had an XL, I'm samoan so the bigger size appealed to me, do any anons have any advice on what I posted or some other low profile rigs?

Level 2
With stab and slash level one.
>>
>>31188974
Thanks, anon. I'm reading level 2 is to stop handgun rounds, if thats the case why double up with stab/slash level one?
>>
>>31187350
>budget
>worth the money
No. Pay money for high quality armor, otherwise it will just break after getting hit with a hollowpoint.
>>
>>31189333
Because kevlar doesn't stop stabs very well.
Stab proof vests usually have hard plates of some sort.

Understood, I'll look into adding that. Would something like this work or need something heavier duty for multiple levels?

>>
>>31187487
Yep
>>
>>31189719
Are you saying that high quality armour is reusable? It isn't, get shot, throw it away.
>>
>>31187350
Yes.
And if anyone says "but you'll never use it", then you can tell them it's "budget" body armor.
But if you do ever use it, you wish it wasn't.
>>31187360
Some types of carriers just cost less. I just bought a slick plate carrier, The Slickster, for about $180 (no plates yet). The more flashy stuff costs more, but that's cause it does more.
Not that you shouldn't spend the money.
>>31188302
The Slickster by Pharoah Concepts.
http://ferroconcepts.com/collections/the-slickster
There are a bunch of companies that make "slick" plate carriers, and they usually don't cost more than $200. But if you wanna add mags or other equipment, you have to buy additions for them.
>>31187535
Armor comes in different levels. Kevlar aka bullet proof vests are usually 3a. You can get vest made of this, or inserts for a plate carrier.
Plates (literally just a piece of steel with special rubber coating or ceramic) are held in a plate carrier. They are level 4 and 4a.
One is flexible and stops pistol rounds. One is hard and stop pistol and rifle rounds.
>>31188302
>>31188974
>>31189333
Get 3a, not 2. There's no reason to get 2 over 3a.
>>31190213
Too be fair, steel plates are technically reusable. There's no real evidence saying it loses it's effectiveness after taking a round.
Unless you're talking about ceramic plates.

get some Mile Dragic level III polyethylene plates from Ebay

they are usually ~$150 once you include shipping for a set of two and they legitimately work. The plates were originally manufactured for the Serbian/Yugoslav Army and a bunch of people have tested them and proven them to be effective.
>>
>>31191173
Shouldn't I buy level 4?
>>
>>31191173
Also, if I buy that, how do I know it's real?

pick one
>>
>>31191277
I mean like under $250 lvl 3 plates.
>>
>>31196061
For plates?
Just go to AR500.
I literally bought curved front and flat back plates for $150 about three hours ago.
>>
you can get level 4 ceramic plates for $140 each at bulletproofme
>>
>>31198009
Or you could get two steel plates for that same price. >>31197978
>>
>>31188302
if you're a wide individual get the flat versions of plates, the curved ones don't actually contour to your shape.
>>
>>31198031
they are steel plates.
>>
How autistic would it be to buy some cheapass airsoft carrier and get actual plates for it so I'm not spending hundreds on what's essentially a canvas vest with pockets in it?
>>
>>31198770
thank you. thats good to know as I am. any specific plate manufactures to check?
>>
>>31197978
>>31192389
I thought AR500 was a meme. Surely you guys don't actually use these, do you??
>>
>>31200000
checked
Spend the extra money on something that'll actually work when you need it to.
>>
if you honestly feel the need to buy armour then why cheap out? IF you're going to trust your life to a couple of plates then why the heck wouldnt you buy different plates and test them out - how else will you know what you are buying? sub $200 plates sound pretty "too good to be true" IMO
>>
>>31200000
gratz man

>>31200477
they work fine bro
>>
>>31198847
ie you dont throw them away after they get hit once

define budget?

when I think of budget body armor I'm thinking $500 or less. Yes there is, as you can get a decent set of plates for ~$450-500.
>>
>>31200477
What's meme worthy about them?
