Well, a Savage Axis II in .223 is going to run ABOUT the same price. While a little more expensive it's a lot better of a cheap bolt action in all the ways that actually matter, so I think OP yeah we'll be over the nugget soon.

I enjoy mine. I got it a few months ago for about 120$(plus taxes.) It's all matching and it's decently accurate as long as the bayonet is affixed. The barrel is in good shape too. Not great by any means but not completely pitted and shitty.

I believe it's a dragoon rifle but I could be wrong.

Yes OP, we are over them now because they cost WAY more than they are worth. I picked mine up from a Cabelas in 2010 for $75, and ammo was about 23¢/round. Oh, how the times have changed... They are indeed fun rifles, I will never get rid of mine and I enjoy shooting it, and I'm glad to own a piece of history. If anything, that last point is still a good reason to buy, it's a cheap relic.

I actually used an Axis in 223 as a coyote gun and it was FANTASTIC. super light, great accuracy, magazine fed.
The only problem I had was that it had zero aftermarket support.

Not cheap anymore, Last 20 or so I've looked at have be the dregs of dregs picked over and shot out. Ammo is getting expensive and for a SHTF how likely are you so score 7.62×54mmR readily. Spend $100.00 more for a modern bolt action in a more common caliber.

I love nuggets for the same reason I love enfields, mausers, and arisakas: the history of them all.

if I wanted to get something cheap, like other anons said, a maverick 88, savage axis, or hi point carbine. theyre new, cheap to feed, and have excellent ammo availability, which nuggets and SKSs have been less and less able to claim the same as of late.

nevertheless, my mosin will still hold a special place in my heart, as the first gun I ever bought. in fact, I didn't find out about /k/ until after I turned 18 and bought my first nugget.

The dragoons didn't have that must have the bayonet on at all times thing that the infantry rifle had. But that was like In ww1, and they did switch over during the war.
