I used to hunt deer on private land to donate the meat to locals who were financially unfortunate. We lined our lockers with 20-30 bucks at a time. They were all hung like this.

It is kind of goofy. Typically I hang them by their rear legs, antlers, or neck. I would only avoid the neck or antlers if I knew I would be getting a shoulder mount. I don't think I've ever seen someone hang from the front legs.
