what does /k/ think about the german equivalent to the Ka-Bar knife ?

good combat knife or overengineered like every german weapon ?
>>
The americanized tanto point is dumb but otherwise it looks entirely average.
>>
>>31170187
What's dumb about it?
>>
>>31170187
>The americanized tanto point is dumb
?!?!?

why? makes literally no difference. in fact, it's actually superior.
>>
>>31170143
Heavy piece of shit that may be worth it to stab through kevlar or destroy webbing with the serrations, but useless for anything practical, including the stabbing of hadjis, since its so damn heavy and they dont wear kevlar anway.
But it sure looks badass.
Source: Own one. Mint condition, 50 € plus shipping btw.

Whatever your choice, one of the most important features of a fighting knife is the hilt. You need a large hilt. You would be surprised at how slippery your hands get. And you don't want your hands and fingers sliding up and onto the blade, of course.
>>
>>31170208

Cold Steel came up with it, likely as a cost-saving measure. It's claimed to make for a stronger point, in practice it makes for nothing other than an ugly knife.

Superior to what exactly?

Your argument is that it is unattractive. Got it.
>>
>>31170143

I have one, it's pretty good for what it is.

Expensive though. I'd pay 70€ for it, but not 120

It's more comfortable than it looks. THe coating is pretty bad and will stain food and wear off with the sheath.

Be careful not to screw up the serrations with the sheath
>>
>>31170320

Well that and it's harder to sharpen and less effective at cutting/slicing. But if you're totally in love with the thing and my dislike of it rustles your jimmies then go ahead, get one and make sweet, sweet love to it and fuck the haters. At the end of the day any knife is better than no knife.

Would mind getting one. I'm not a fan of tanto blades though. Found it rather annoying to get the point were the two edges meet sharpened correctly. Rather stick with a standard style edge. With serrations towards the hilt.

I love mine to death. It's a good general purpose knife with decent balance and a good edge. The serrated portion is excellent, and it's an all around solid, thick knife. It's not exactly special, and there are other knives that will fit the bill for whatever someone needs. The only problem I've ever had with it is the fact that the finish has worn off a bit due to sliding it in and out of the carrier over the years.

As far as the hilt goes, it fits very well. I put some bowflage tape to help with the grip, but it's by no means a bad hilt on its own.

you have no real world experience do you? no grip is good enough to stop your hand from slipping when its covered in blood. as soon as that knife meets resistance you hand can slip right out. Even if you are a expert you hand can slip.

As an Austrian I can promise you that the Glockmesser is a great tool, not knife.

Its great for digging/hammering/chopping/stabbing... but forget about cutting.
>>

With adquete motivation and time, I managed to make an AK74 bayonet have a not-shit edge using a ceramic rod. Couple weeks of absent minded sharpening. What makes the feldmesser a bad knife? Poor edge? Bad metallurgy?

What about a fallkniven f1? Also I live less then a hour from the kabar factory so its cheaper for me to get a defect kabar like a kabar for 10 dollars because it has a scratch on handle.

>german equivalent to the KA-BAR knife

But it isn't at all even designed with a similar philosophy.

As a 'tactical combat knife' the aggressive shape is a very minor advantage, while the lighter weight, better steel and polymer handle are all much more substantial advantages.

Due to the blade shape the knife loses functionality as a utility tool but regains this somewhat with the serrations, which being on a german designed and manufactured knife would (hopefully) be good quality.

The stronger tip and tanto 'belly' are both easily used in slashing and thrusting attacks as long as you are aware to slash with the tip of the angular belly.

Its just another kind of knife, with benefits and weaknesses compared to any other knife.

The KA-BAR knife has the advantage of the belly, but the actually length of the KA-BARs blade is straight and flat with minimal belly, making it not to dissimilar from the KM2000 in that it is designed with thrusting efficiency and slashing with the tip only in mind in the tools design, with the main length of the blades edge being flat like the tanto knife.

And besides, the modern variation of the KM2000 has a dropped point and swedge making the blade much more aggressive.

It looks like it would be good for stabbing though heavy fabric, but are they ever even used for that? I would imagine the suckitude of a chisel ground tanto makes this a shitty knife for what the troops are mostly going to be using it for. I would much rather have a bowie, or something like the fallkniven.

I mean come on, has a ka-bar ever failed to stab someone properly?
