Can we talk about the K31 and other Swiss rifle that consume the 7.5x55?

I may need one of these in my life, should I do it fgt?

Also general Swiss milsurp cultural thread

(ps most of the Swiss I have worked with are somewhat snobbish but I am willing to overlook that for the sake of some good milsurp)

Fug me, I had a bunch of boxes of 7.5x55 Ruag because very very cheap (20cpr) but I eventually sold them and now they are all 50cpr+
>>
>>31169968
wew those are nice

Can you tell me the models of your pic related and how well they function?
>>
>>31169989
1. K31 from the late 70s. It's my favorite rifle

2. Stgw 57. Shoots the worse out of the 3. It's basically a select fire K31.

3. Stgw 90. Pretty good, low recoil and bipod make it probably the best one out of the bunch but it's not that interesting to shoot.
>>
>>31170046
I'm thinking K31 for my first Swiss rifle, would you agree?
>>
>>31170089
Are you American? If so, get the K11 since it's cheaper. I would only pay +400 for a K32 if it's in pristine condition.
>>
>>31170107
Yes I am , will do - and yep I noticed the K31's going for kinda high prices as of late, at least compared to a few years ago they seem to be going up

Would you say a ceiling of $400 for a K11 as well?
>>
>>31170291
Only if it's abused as fuck.

7.5x55 is one hell of a cartridge, I don't say that because I'm Swiss

Ok I do, but not only because of that

I miss my k31. It was a sweet rifle that was easily more accurate than me.

If I ever get a chance, I'm gonna try and track down one with diopter sights next.
>>
>>31174379
Yes. I bought my K31 with 200 rounds of GP11 for 280 bucks a year ago. They're only going up in value. Seriously.
>>
>>31174418
I eyed a decent looking one with the Swiss crest in perfect condition at my LGS for 400 CAD back in May. I was looking for one for 5 months and just happened to see it as I was leaving the door with my new Jericho. The price spiked to 550 CAD 2 days later and sold out by the third day. I am never selling this thing.

I love mine. If you act quickly, you can grab some Swiss surplus GP11 (the best ammo you can get) for around 50 cents per round. I grabbed two cases and am now sitting on more than 900 rounds. Definitely worth it.

>When you see and finger fuck your very first nurse gun
Good fucking god that's just a rifle you want to touch forever, the machining is just so ungodly smooth and those curves are beyond perfect.
>>
A 1943 K31 was my second centerfire rifle. It's a bit of a cliche to say that they're "built like a Swiss watch", but holy mother of God it's a true statement. Even my relatively beat-up Landstrum rifle is smoother than Teflon and shoots sub-MoA all day long with GP11 ammo. Ammo availability is a huge issue depending on where you live - I haven't seen a box of surplus in over a year, and new-production PPU in about eight months. Beyond that, though, I'd recommend a K31 to anyone. At $300-$400, they're quite possibly the best value on the entire American firearms market, and they're a really cool little historical footnote to boot.
>>
Forgot to add:
My old Landstrum reserve rod is easily more accurate than my abilities, and most people will probably come to the same conclusion. If you want to get really good at precision shooting with irons, get a K31. I think I've learned more about myself with that rifle than I have with twenty AR's/R700's/etc.
>>
First rifle I bought. It's a fucking dream to shoot.

One of the best values out there. A sub-MOA rifle with a slick 2 stage trigger and even the biggest fudd at the range will find the straight pull action cool.
>>
Random derailment question, because it doesn't really need its own thread:
I've long considered trying to adapt the K31 action to modern production techniques. Something in the vein of a military sniper rifle like the M40A3, probably chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor.
Does /k/ think there's a need, market niche, or even a point to such a rifle? Is the design valuable enough to be worth reviving?

You son, have got to be totally ignorant. Fucking joker.

Re-development, tools, and testing alone could be 50 grand. Each unit is going to be 4 grand or more if you want to match the fit and finish.
>>
>>31177206
Yeah, I know. Armchair gunsmithing for the most part. I'd fully expect such a project to be no simpler than starting from the ground up.
>>
whats a good price and retail price on a k31 shooter in merica these days?
>>
Fugg after I build my AR I was supposed to start saving for a new apartment but fuck I'm gonna get a k31 now. GF will be pissed, but raifu will cuddle me
>>
>>31177428
$300-$400's fair in most places. Paid $325 for mine last year. Also, there are enough on the market that it's worth holding out for one in good shape. Mechanically, most K31's are fuckin' mint, but because of how the Swiss did rifle drills, some of the stocks took a beating, especially around the buttplate.

Really, it doesn't matter how high the prices get, these things are always gonna be a good value. Getting that kind of build quality and performance out of a new production rifle would cost an order of magnitude more than what you're spending.

I bought this one for 350 missing most of its lower furniture...Not sure if it is a k11 or a k31 though, Somebody i was talking to at my local ammo stop told me it may be a k11 infantry because of its size.

I'll post a full pic shortly.

I bought it then noticed the serial number.
>>
Here we go... Rifle was in pretty good condition, but i pulled it apart to clean it out really well.

I've been told by a collector of milsurp to find some automatenfett to clean it up with, he said it's what they use to maintain them over there.

But my question is is where do i get the rest of the furniture?
>>
>>31176465
That's fucking awesome...
>>
>>31177529
>>31177600
Definitely not a K31 - the bolt handle is wrong and the mag/ejection port is in the wrong place. As far as I know, the only difference between the G11 and K11 is length, so if it's long as fuck, it's a G11.

You can order waffenfett from Switzerland online, but I'm not aware of any US sources. I just use ballistol to clean mine.

As to furniture, I guess you could try Numrich or just look on auction sites.
>>
I got to shoot my 1911 Carbine at 600 yards the other day at steel. The accuracy is awesome, pretty happy with the performance of the GP11 and my reloads of it.

What does everyone use as a lube substitute for the waffenfett that cannot be acquired in the states? I know its widely stated that oil is a more than acceptable substitute but I am wondering what the /k/onsensus is (or is anyone knows where i can get some of the original.

Swissfag here, I have an old k31 lying around which hasnt been shot in like 20 years or so. How much would it cost to get it looked at/Cleaned at a gunshop?

50-100 CHF at a good gunsmith.

Where are you from in Switzerland?

It shoots a .308 bullet. If you reload, you can make rounds for under 33 cents per round. Classic is having a sale on Swiss rifles right now.

I picked up one when the decent round of surplus hit a couple years ago. Mine was made in '55 but has a matching 1944 dated walnut stock. Sadly it had no troop tag under the butt plate.

.3065-ish, actually. But .308 is considered safe to shoot through it.
