There's a reason that the MCX is half the price of a SCAR, and it's definitely not a battle rifle.

FN revised the SCAR's MSRP to $3,349 so those are actual market prices now.

Furthermore FN is solely focusing on military contracts for at least the next few quarters. The stock of SCARs is going to dry up even if there is no ban (there will be though).

For real though, all joking aside. I've grown to accept that the 17S is merely another wildly overpriced rifle that's only on the market to appease the tacticool hobbyists. Without all the extra paperwork, you don't get the full auto or the barrel swap. So what are you really paying for? The name, and a platform that weighs just marginally less than its competitors. If Sig would just pull their heads out of their asses and put the 716 on a diet, then I would easily pick the 716 over a 17S. Performance-wise, they are nearly the same. They feature the same level of modularity, customizations, and versatility in their roles. The only real difference is the weight and barrel swap system. That's about it. I'm basically just saying that paying anything over sticker price for a Scar-17S is fucking retarded.

Depends on what you want from your battle rifle. The PTR will be more reliable and durable than a .308 AR, but the Ar will be more accurate. If you want a knockabout rifle with cheap mags that can eat any .308/7.62 you can feed it, get a PTR. If you want something that is accurate at long range and easy to scope up, get/build an AR10.

As for the mags, it's a little annoying that they're proprietary. However, if you buy 3-4 extras, you'll never have anything to worry about.
