It depends what you like. I like cocked and locked, so I like 1911s and USPs. But if you like striker-fired, go Glock (imo) and if you like DA/SA, you have a lot of options, but honestly I'm a giant HK-fag so again my first choice would be a USP, then HK45, then their compact variants, then something like a Sig P227 or P220. Then the FN after that. Just not a fan of that bigass fat momma grip. You get more rounds true but the cost of ergonomics/shooting comfort is not worth it to me.

Also with regard to 1911s, they are very simple handguns with not a lot of little itty-bitty parts like especially the DA/SA guns usually have, and it is pretty easy to memorize and master all of their parts and really learn the platform. It's faster than learning other guns imo, especially given all just the raw information out there on the full-size .45-caliber 1911. A 1911 with a bunch of pre-fitted spare parts, a few files and a set of calipers would make a decent long-term setup if you get super doomsday with the whole thing. Fuck all the naysayers, 1911s are fine. Just do your research and don't buy trash.

Also consider a Glock 21/30/Kriss Vector .45 combo for funsies and if you've got the dosh.

It's a very accurate and smooth shooting gun but the thing is MASSIVE, especially considering its capacity.

I've had the unique opportunity of owning both of these firearms I would pick the FNX just because of its Superior reliability not to mention 15-round magazines instead of just 14. My Pera 14.45 did not like certain ammunition because of the strange Arrow lamp frame cut out nonsense they use and tractor would not stay in-spec to save its life or mine. FNX gets my pic.
