i watched that until the guy started giving instructions to the little kid about how to commit suicide

This. I don't like reading novels. I don't read them often, but "The Road" was a good read.
Probably my favorite habbening story ever, as told by the book. I liked the movie too, but the book really emphasized the psychological aspect. Not a whole lot of habbening stories capture hopelessness like "The Road."

This is a book /k/lub thread now. I also liked that book. Someone recommend me a new /k/ read.

I know you're trying to sound sarcastic, but given the level of dumb in your first post, your response really comes off legitimate.
So you're welcome.

So a person becomes "dumb" when they mention they were bored by a movie that you think is the Best Movie Ever because gritty realism?
>>31143577
yeah been there
>>31144436
no, but a person is dumb when they start labeling a logical thought on dying quick vs. suffering long and then dying, as "edgy", because they themselves have read too much memes on here and think throwing out meme words like candy will somehow gain them more cred with the community.

As a post apoc nut I liked it for the gritty realism and the day-to-day hobo survival.
But I would have liked him to go deeper into the world and describe things a little bit further. Especially the communities and raiders groups.
But I'm aware the story was more about living vs surviving and the father trying his darnest to give a relatively good life to his son while he still can.
Didn't like the "happy end" too.
>>31145263
I don't think their ever was a happy end. Its all but stated Humanity is heading to extinction with nothing they can do to prevent it
>that part of the book with the baby
A bit like >>31144568 I read it not long after my daughter was born, and that scene in particular really got to me.
The thing that got me the most, though, was realising that there must have been many times throughout history when things that horrid had happened. I mean, less than a century ago we had holodomor, the siege of Leningrad, and the Chinese famines. You just know that with tens of millions dying, somebody somewhere was eating babies among the rest of the horrors.

>>31145263
well, let's not forget, unless whatever disaster truly fucked up ALL of earth, I am hard pressed to think that all corners of human civilization went completely into the shitter as bad as the Father and Son's region. I don't remember them encountering any sort of electronics or communications device to tap into how the rest of the world is. And like if Yellowstone were to go off, Most of the North West and West Coast of the US would be in apocalypse mode for a good many years, while the East Coast not really touched, other than the food shortage and light ash rain with colder weather.
>>31145418
>being this retarded
>And like if Yellowstone were to go off, Most of the North West and West Coast of the US would be in apocalypse mode for a good many years, while the East Coast not really touched, other than the food shortage and light ash rain with colder weather.
"No". First off Yellowstone, if it's eruption was similar to the last three, would put the entire world into a decade long volcanic winter We're talking temperatures in some parts of the world staying below freezing for literally years on end. After that you'd be looking at a millennia of shorter summers and harsher and longer winters. The idea that the East Coast wouldn't really be touched is fucking retarded. 75,000 years ago the caldera that is now Lake Toba in what is now Indonesia erupted. It was so cataclysmic that it caused the entire homo sapiens population (all in Africa mind you) to be reduced to something like 10k individuals, this genetic bottleneck is still observable today based on genetic studies, not just in humans but many other species as well. Fuck, I'd honestly rather be in the Ashzone than be in the areas that didn't get wiped out since those that didn't would be fucking miserable to live in. Can you imagine being in a state like Georgia or something? Can you imagine the chimp outs and mass violence once the food ran out and they realize no more is coming? You thought Katrina was bad...
It's so telegraphed on repeated watching, but the ending of Jin Roh always gets me

My god you're emotional faggots. Fuck has happened, no wonder women are running the show.
Listened to the audio book at work and the part where the wife left to go kill herself was brutal. Didn't even say goodbye to the son.
>>31145729
Have you read the book? It's heart wrenching. I'm not even a father but that book painted a deep picture of how hard it is to be a father to a child when you're slowly dying, resources are becoming harder to come across, and there's no hope for anything to get better or anyone else left to trust.
I think you're just trying a little too hard to be edgy and emotionless, like a true aspie fuck. Get some theory of mind or go back to /r9k/.
>>31144093
fuck yes thank you. I've been trying to remember what this was for years.

>>31144810
>The clocks stopped at 1:17. A long shear of light and then a series of low concussions. He got up and went to the window.
>The days sloughed past uncounted and uncalendared. Along the interstate in the distance long lines of charred and rusting cars. The raw rims of the wheels sitting in a stiff gray sludge of melted rubber, in blackened rings of wire. The incinerate corpses shrunk to the size of a child and propped on the bare springs of the seats. Ten thousand dreams ensepulchred within their crozzled hearts.
I'd say nukes. But hard to say since it is not like the book is hard realistic. I can't think of anything that would kill all the plant life permanently yet allow the humans to live.
>>31143594
Stupid fuck
>>31146037
Personally I'm thinking super volcano still. The clocks could have stopped either as a metaphor or from some freak EMP like event resulting from eruptions causing a massive "dirty thunderstorm". I mean it's fiction so whatever.
>I can't think of anything that would kill all the plant life permanently yet allow the humans to live.
Well nothing is permanent but two things from a super eruption can kills plants:
>acidic rain/poisoned ground water sources
>the volcanic winter that would last for up to a decade with virtually no direct sunlight
Remember that it killing all the plants doesn't mean literally all plants on the planet.

First time I saw that was with a chick that I was dating, well dating as in like the third date. I had just torrent it and she came over, I figured it'd be a nice movie to cozy up and possibly get dick sucked or something. For some reason it really freaked her out, so towards the end she was holding me really tight on my couch, then they all shot themselves and she was on the verge of crying. Simultaneously she took a big gasp as the mil guys showed up and let out the loudest "HAH" that scared the shit out of her. She sat up and just looked at me like" what the fuck??!?!". Safe to say there wasn't a next date.

It'd take a bit to get the required firestorms from nuclear weapons to cause something like that.

Realism is important. PS go get a shopping cart, fill it with shit and push it across a frozen field for a while and tell me how it works out for you.
Guess what, it doesn't work
It's ridiculous and just because you loved it enough to cry, does not give you license to fill yourself with enough vehement hatred to call another person stupid for disliking it.
