'Sup /k/.

What are you working on?

My AR-7 model with custom stock is progressing nicely. The bolt model is ~75% complete (mostly missing the scalloped section under the bolt where the mag goes and a few holes for pins/springs). Got the bolt handle done... I'll be starting work on the inside dimensions of the receiver soon.

How are your projects coming along?

It's an older version (2013), but it works fine for now. I'm too lazy to update it, lol.

You can see a bunch of the missing features in this pic. Still need to hollow out the magwell, as well as the aforementioned bolt features.
>>
>>31139431
I like where you're going with this.
>>
>>31140695

I also plan on making a folding and/or telescopic stock after. Maybe an AR-15 stock adapter?

Long-term, looking at making modified versions in other calibers.
>>
That looks sweet bro. I have been trying to find a good aftermarket stock for my AR7, I would totally buy this

Update from plastic bullet anon. All 5 that i made worked and all 5 fed from the magazine. I shot the last 3 at a can 5 yards away. They all went through with one keyholing out the back. It acts like a pellet rifle.

Seems like it would act like a beefed up airsoft gun.

Any perks or disadvantages to the bullets?

I printed case length 9mm bullets to be fired with the primer only as an inside target practice/trigger control tool. They grip rifiling and seem to be pretty accurate. The biggest part is they feed from a magazine. Something the speer plastic bullets dont do. Just pop them into a primed case and youre good to go. I need to find a chrony to see what fps they are.
They weigh all of 10 gr.
>>
>>31141134

That would be baller as fuck in a revolver.
>>
>>31141113
>perks
Shootable inside with a standard walmart pellet trap
Feeds from a magazine
Cheap to make
Can be used in a case where the bullet has been pulled without the need for crimping
No drilling of the primer flash hole required like with other plastic bullet options
>disadvantages
Takes a surprisingly long time to print
Probably inaccurate past 10 yards
Cant shoot your friends with it
>>
>>31141149
I got the idea from the wax bullets you can get for practice shooting that have very large primer pockets. I dont have a revolver to test them in though.
>>
>>31141177
Another perk. They have a boat tail. Maybe it helps. Idk.
>>
>>31141177
>full case length plastic bullet
I dunno, that sounds like a pretty long time. How long is surprisingly long?
>>
>>31141177
They'd probably be good as training rounds for practicing form and stance.

Sounds like a good idea anon, if you want to produce a lot, then try looking into plastic injection molding.
>>
>>31141245
I cant remember exactly but i do remember going "huh. well thats a surprisingly long time"

>>31141246
Molds are incredibly expensive to have made for injection molding. that is an option though. I was thinking of molding them myself. They would be low density but it would be faster than printing. A very dense latex might work as well but might be too heavy for just the primer.
>>
>>31141294
I think i remember 125 taking 33 hours to print.
>>
>>31141294
Could you convert an existing bullet mold to work with injected plastic?
>>
>>31141319

Shrinkage may or may not be the same. They would be fucking cool if made out of UHMWPE, though.
>>
>>31141319
Possibly but i dont have anything to force the plastic in with. The plastic i print in melts at 280°c so im not sure how to liquefy it and inject it.
>>
>>31141344
>UHMWPE
I can print in that but i think that negates its strength lol.
>>
>>31141361

It's more for the weight.
>>
Man, there are a lot of aspects to the AR-7 I'm not super fond of.

Lots of streamlining that could be done.
>>
So, no one else got any interesting projects underway?
>>
>>31143341
I'll look though my folder tomorrow at work and see if theres anything i want to revisit.

I designed this ported barrel bushing for my tokarev. Should come in later this week from the 3d service I use. I'll post pictures when I get it in.
>>
>>31144092
Nice! What are you getting it printed out of?
>>
I really need a gun project. I've been having to focus on college...ugh....

Currently toying with building a vz58 from an Apex parts kit, but I just can't justify the cost when I can go buy a used D-Techniks/Czechpoint for $200 less than the total build.

Most of my guns are old C&R's, so there's not really a lot of work to be done there other than keeping them in working order. I'm not about to go and mod my '43 Long Branch No.4 or something retarded like that.

with some optimization i have got the print time down to 8 minutes per bullet. my printers use plastic trays to print on that are 8x8. i was able to fit 289 on a tray. because of how the printer arranges print files it isnt simply 8x289 for print time. that would be only 38.53 hours. instead it takes 43 hours and 20 minutes to print 289 bullets.
>43:20
>>
>>31146299
Lots of unnecessary travel between rounds, I take it?
>>
>>31146750
seems that way. instead of going to the part right next to the one it just did, it will go to the other end of the tray and do a layer, then to another end of the tray, and so on. its annoying.
>>
>>31146808

I don't know the exact setup you're using, but for CNC machining you can tell it in which order to do any given features...

Long term, you're probably better off making a mold for casting resins.

Nice. Got any pics?

I'm starting to make some headway on the internals of the receiver. You can clearly see that the current trigger is just a placeholder from here.

There are so many tiny little features on the inside of this gun... I'm hoping some of them will make more sense once the assembly is completed.

>>
>>31150196

Looking forward to it!

I'm not on /k/ every day, but I'll make a thread (assuming there isn't already a project thread up) whenever I sit down to work on my model.
>>
>>31146299
That doesnt sound like 8 minutes per bullet, then. Why in the world are you 3d printing something that could be easily done in a plastic mould?
>>
>>31149625
>>31149651
>>31150431
Im going to call an injection molding company tomorrow to see about making them. I wanted to see how long it would take to print though. Thats also not the longest print ive done lol.

Short of electricity it only costs me 5.5 cents to make each one in materials. If i can get this company to mold them with spars like a model kit then that can save on packaging as well. The initial cost is going to fucking suck though. Mold making isnt cheap.
>>
>>31143341
I'm waiting on my receiver to come in so I can fix an AK that I accidentally blew up. Sadly, since I'm going to school now, I'm probably going to send it to an AK guy and pay him to fix it. The ORIGINAL plan was to build the AK and be done with it, but I fucked up and am now in this situation.
>>
>>31150702
Christ, learn to make your own molds and cast in poly resin with micro balloons. You can make a mold for 30 bucks that will last for at least 2000 casts.

Look I don't want to shit on your parade but have you ever done plastic injection molding?

You gotta worry about drafts, gates thickness, ejectors outgassing, trapped geometry, tolerance, etc. Like the list of shit you would have to deal with is just enormous and that's just on the design side. Drawings, surface call outs mold release like bro this shit sucks.

Also getting someone to do a cheap aluminum test mold is minimum $4k and that's a cheap Chinese molder for a simple resin, good luck talking to them as well. If you go the US route that's $12k. Also you really only get 1 chance at a mold, they're hard to rework.

If you really want this, I'd suggest getting machined plastic from someone, machinists love Delrin and it would be cheaper. This is assuming you want gun parts and not that anon that prints bullets.

Weird, mine already came as such.

Posted a few times before, but anons seem to like it. I built me a garage gun based on the Sten and a little influence from the MP3008.

>>
>>31154717
>doing the equivalent of making an airsoft shell
I'd buy it but I'd also call anyone else who bought it a fucking dumbass tool.
>>
>>31154823
What you talking about, what does airshit have anything to do with this?

its just making a VSS inpired grip/stock scaled to AR7. Then you buy intergrated supressor, they make those for AR7 right?

BAM instant mini-VSS looking rifle.
>>
>>31155024
I'm saying that the system will not be the same and it won't be anything but a VSS lookalike.
>>
>>31155039
That's good enough for me. Same amount of fun in my book. inspired projects is a good alternative to airshit and dress up kits.
>>
Are 2D projects welcome?

I'm into /gd/ and i have this one idea i think is pretty not-shit.

I'd never be able to actually make it real though, there'd be too many patents and shit in the way.
>>
>>31156208
No one fucking cares and most patents are free domain because they are based off designs over 80 years old and no one gives a single shit.

Let me guess some faggotry with a lever delayed blowback

A short(?) stroke semi-auto with elements from the SCAR, ACR, ARX100, AR15 and MGI Hydra.

The Hydra lower allows for multiple calibres to be fired from a single firearm easily, as does the 2 different uppers.
The SCAR/ARX-style bolt and BCG allow for ambidextrous ejection and charging, and the bolt rods are different lengths on light/heavy variants, intended to compensate for heavier rounds with a heavier bolt.
The stock was originally intended to be a G36 IDZ clone but has morphed beyond that.
The trigger is pretty much an AR15 trigger. I looked into a bunch of patents and similar images to try and come up with a way to make it auto, but it didn't end up working.
The bolt release is from the ACR/XCR.
The barrel is quick-change, rather than like on the Hydra which cannot do better than 2MOA, i'm plagiarising the ARX since i can't find any info on how good it is, and ? is better than 2MOA.
>>
>>31154717
I'm also thinking that an MP5 style stock would be pretty baller.
