Speer Gold Dots, 147gr +P 9mm G2, 64gr 5.56, 230gr +P .45ACP, 85gr .380ACP

17+1 9mm, RAP
Four magazines, identical load
12 fmj+5 fed hydrashok 2s up top

If five hollowpoints don't stop an assailant, then the remainder should, identical load on multiple mags mean I can top up the hp ammo or run strajght through and still have stopping power mixed into slightly better penetration

Federal HST for 9mm (147gr.) and .45 (230gr.) Right now I mainly have 55gr. wwb for my AR-15, but ideally you should look for a good hp in the 75gr. range like Hornady TAP if your barrel and wallet can handle it.

hydra-shok ammo tech is basically obsolete. The new types of 9mm are why their reputation is improving right now. I'd stash the hydras until they're out of production collectibles and switch to another type like HSTs.

I carry Sig V-Crowns for my .40 but wouldn't for the .380 or 9mm.

Generally ball ammo is a good choice for .380, some say .380 lacks the velocity to reliably expand hollowpoints, plus since its got a hole in it they will be lighter grained. Typically the heavier grain the better in shorter barrels. Ball ammo(fmj) is going to give .380 the penetration you need since some consider it underpowered. Also ball ammo isnt going to give you the feed issues that some hollowpoints can have. 95 or 100grn fmj works great. Or buffalobore 100grn +p hardcasts. You want the added penetration fmj or hardcast has to offer when carrying .380. My wife practices with winchester whitebox 95grn then carries 100grn +p hardcasts in her lcp

>I'm just saying in all fairness, that defensive ammo hasn't changed all that much through the years.
It's gone through immense changes in the last decade or so. Not only are the jackets and cores bonded in modern hollowpoints, but they are actually made expanded and then folded up to ensure reliable expansion.

Bullet design is the area of firearms technology that's undergoing the greatest rate of advancement at present.
>>
>>31103744

I know they redesigned the bullets, but what was the conclusion on the original design? Was it it OK out of a full size?

Couldn't decide between the two, so I have a grab bag of HSTs and Gold Dots, 124gr +P. I lead off with the HST. I can't notice a difference when shooting them, and they've both shot fine. I trust them both to bring about a successful conclusion.

I have an lcp and I have to load really light loads for it to be anywhere near enjoyable at the range. standard pressure ammo and that little thing wants to jump out of my hand. I don't really consider myself recoil sensitive but that little lcp is a bitch to shoot.

There's a school of thought that says +P stuff will work better when conditions are less than optimal, due to that extra bit of pressure. You're in an apartment, however, and not on Day 36 of a safari in South Africa, so that's probably not particularly relevant.

124gr HST works fine, and it's also locally available in the overpriced 20rd boxes if you're averse to ordering online. It will also punch though several walls, as will any 9mm round worth loading into your pistol for defensive purposes. Most JHPs will stay inside the body if it's a solid torso hit, and those that pass through the body will be moving significantly slower (and thus less penetrate-y).

147gr is a little better on paper (slightly bigger expansion, slightly deeper penetration), but the load you've got does everything a pistol load is supposed to do and there's really no reason to go out and spend more money unless you stumble across a good deal/were already planning on buying more JHP ammo.
>>
>>31110284

It's supposed to prevent the hollowpoint cavity from being plugged (and thus causing a failure to expand), and it generally does that job quite well. Doesn't move Hornady's pistol ammo out of mediocre tier as far as expansion goes, however.

No, i'm not some freak who enjoys ladyballs/femininepenis. My wife is just a thick, sturdy woman with strong hands. I'm a very large guy, 6'7" 245lbs and i absolutely hate shooting her lcp because how it sits in my large hands, however her hands are perfect for it and fit it really well. That being said an lcp is not a 'fun range gun'. Its a carry gun. You shoot it enough to break it in, get confident with it, then grit and bare through when you have to shoot through a few mags to stay in practice.
