Like 9100 out of 12,000. Probably didn't help that I was not a Chicago resident at the time either. Took them about 14 months to call, by that time I was on to a different career path.

CPD does not do lateral hires or prefer cops from other departments. Folks with LE experience start at zero just like everyone else. So my advice is to get a different job you enjoy in the meantime, sit for the exam, wait to get called up, and follow the rest of the steps while on the side. It really is one of the best departments to work for if you want to be a municipal police officer, and the pay and pension is better than just about every other job in the world that requires you to carry a gun.

If you're just networking the computers at a PD, you're going to be a civilian employee and don't need to attend an academy. If you're hunting down the notorious hacker known as 4chan or V&-ing pervs, you should be looking towards getting hired as a federal law enforcement agent. They handle the majority of computer crimes.

One tip, apply to several places. Don't put all your eggs in one basket with CPD. Its expensive but worth applying to multiple places, never know who may call first.

It really depends on the agency though. Mine has a cop that does IT as his full time job. They want mainly cops in staff positions so they can pull them to help out during chimpouts.

The BI packet was huge. For reference, I had a Secret clearance in the Army and the packet for that was minuscule compared to the CPD one. It was a combination of several things that made me say fuck it though. When I took the exam, I was a helpdesk rep making around 40k a year. By the time I took the power test, I was making 70k as a sysadmin. I know city cops can make more than that, but they usually end up working mad overtime to do so. I also bought a house in the suburbs and would have had to sell it. Since you could only turn in the packet at Headquarters during certain times of day, I would have had to burn a day off just to drop it off. In the end I just realized I was pretty happy with my current career and while I always kinda wanted to be a cop. I don't think I would have been happy in the long run.

I assume you're pretty fit judging by the preworkout or protein on the counter so I guess you probably don't need a beatstick or whatever. Applying on the website is easy, anyone can do it.

You need to contact the recruiting division inside Chicagos police department.

I'm a police officer in Reno. I was originally from Oregon, I passed all the tests and they let me take the pre-exam at my local police station.

They helped me arrange a place to stay too.

They where willing to help me move because I was over qualified, I'm not sure how the Chicago police do recruiting.

I was expected to attend the testing and interviews, which only took a week. I stayed in some cheap motel while I was taking everything.

While I was there I was lucky enough to talk with one of the lieutenants and he helped me find a place to lease.

You should contact the recruiting officers and voice your concerns before you do anything else.

Also save money too, it caused me $500 just for a decent room in Las Vegas for the week.

Ive punched people before, given them a smack with the bezel of my light, I've literally bitten a chunk out of someones neck before when he tried to grab my gun and both my hands were busy keeping it in the holster. A fight is a fight and anything goes once they try to go for a weapon. I carry the spray mostly for dogs because I don't want someone who has been sprayed in my car stinking it up, and ive tazed several people.
