Do any /K/ommandos know of a place to get cheap Mosin Nagants? They don't have to be a certain model, or year just decent quality 91/30's for cheap.
>>
>>31096581
Classic Firearms or Aim Surplus
>>
Still present for cheapish in most gunstores

Why bother? The rifles aren't worth what you pay for them these days and the ammo has doubled in price. Just buy a Savage Axis and move on with your life.
>>
>>31096632
1. Mosin ammo is cheap as dirt
2. I don't see a need to overspend by a ridiculous amount, so I was seeing if anybody had a good place to get some.

Not true. Also, you're going to overspend on a Nugget no matter what anymore. Don't get me wrong, they're fun rifles, they just aren't worth any more than $200. Get a Yugo Mauser if you want to get your money's worth, they have the best action of any cheap-ish bolt gun available.

>>
>>31096746
The budget is 250 or less, and what I'm looking for is
1. Bolt Action
2. Something besides 22lr
3. Preferably Milsurp
4. Something that is cheap to shoot
>>
>>31096767
Cheap to shoot and milsurp don't really get along anymore. Yugo M48s or other Mauser 98 based rifles are good options. They're pretty much K98ks without the nazi markings or the 600$ price tag.

8mm mauser isn't horrible, but its not cheap either.

If you're willing to save up a little more dosh, there's always the various Mausers from around Europe. They're around $300, but IMO worth every penny. I have owned Nuggets and Mausers over the years, and let me just say the Mausers are more fun to shoot.

Also, get the Turkish ammo if you want to have some fun, just make sure your gun is structurally-sound first.
>>
>>31096581
Honestly OP your best bet is a Type 53 in acceptable condition for $130. 91/30s, M44s, and the rest are stupidly expensive nowadays. If you payed over $180 for a basic 91/30 you're getting robbed.

I recently got a Turkish mauser for 240$ that im pretty happy with. Not in amazing condition but that gives it character. I'd suggest a cheaper mauser action as well
>>
So how much is a German WWII Mauser, and what markings identify one? Where can I find one?
>>
>>31096874
If you're OP you don't want a German mauser. Germany sold mauser rifles to other countries that will be significantly cheaper and almost identical. Go to a gun show for any of this stuff if you don't have local milsurp stores like me
>>
>>31096874
I paid about 550USD for mine about a year ago. Found it on armslist from a local collector. Markings that identify them are the Waffenamt (little stamping of eagle and swastika), the mod 98 stamping, and the maker markings on top of the receiver. Also, they have bent bolts and the handguards aren't full like on other Mausers (M48).

The K98ks are no nicer or better than other Mausers of the period, but the price is high due to wehraboos.

There are plenty of resources online if you're looking in to them. Russian Captured guns are far cheaper than non-capture guns, as the russians did unspeakable things to them.
>>
>>31096955
Can you provide some resources for a milsurp noob? Not OP

I have a question. This is Mosin related, and I didn't want to post another Mosin thread with this one up.

I took my Mosin shooting for the first time today, and the only issue I had was that with the 6th, 13th, and 15th rounds, I had extraction issues.

-The 6th round, the casing was left in the receiver which I discovered when I tried to chamber the next round but it wouldn't go in. I guess the extractor didn't pull it out, I had to send the cleaning rod through the other end and with a quick poke, it popped out.

-The 13th and 15th rounds, the casings stayed in the receiver, except this time I couldn't even open the bolt. It took about 5 minutes of me trying to pry the bolt open, smacking the side of the rifle, and putting my upper body weight on the bolt before it would finally open so I could slide it back and the spent casing would pop out.

My question is why? Is there an issue with the headspace? My extractor not grabbing the rim correctly?

It can't be cosmoline, because I checked the inside of the receiver when I got home and it was all clear.

Please help, /k/omrades.
>>
>>31097037
My sticky bolt was solved by cleaning the inside of the bolt, lightly sanding and polishing the caming surfaces. Maybe your extractor is worn. If the primers are bulged backwards then it is probably headspace but don't take my word for it.

I also had an issue with my 98k where the bolt would not open on a fired cartridge, had to tap on it from the inside with a cleaningrod and hammer to get it to come lose. Only happened once, I believe it to be the ammo. What are you shooting?
>>
>>31096807
90 bucks for 1,000 rounds.........

WE HAVE TO GO BACK
>>
>>31096874
Get a Czech or Yugo Mauser. They're functionally the same as German K98s, but likely to be in better shape (and to have all matching parts).

If you buy a German Kar98k, you're pretty much buying it for the historical value.

>>31097067
The primers are bulged so headspace is fine. What are the caming surfaces?

the two little flat surfaces that rub against eachother when you open the bolt. Sometimes they get stuck and make it impossible to open. Also, the place where the front of the bolt handle contacts the top of the receiver, it also can get stuck sometimes.

I'm so happy I got my Hungarian M44 back when these were cheap. I bought it for $20 from a friend who scavenged one of those "10 rifles for $350" deals that Cabela's/Bass Pro Shop was running in ;08. He only bought it for the chance of getting a WWII vintage gun (which he amazingly did) and sold me one for a loss because who cares about $10?

I can't imagine paying more than $250 for one of these hunks of junk. Everything about it screams drunk communist manufacturing.
>>
>>31097405
>>
>>31097703
Compare the extractor to pics online. I had the problem of not extracting and questioned the cause until I replaced the extractor and it'`s worked fine ever since.

The extractor was worn down and not grabbing the case. It would extract unfired brass but not fired since the case swelled in the chamber and fire fit.
>>
>>31096666

If .45 cents a round is your idea of cheap, must be nice.

theres 2 venders with surplus left for 37c a round, but after that it's all new production.

glad I stacked deep at 17c a round
>>
>>31098759
It's actually children working a crude assembly line. Not saying they weren't drunk since a shot of vodka and clove of garlic is babushka logic to stave off the cold for your childs walk.
>>
Classic and SOG still have <$250 nuggets.

>>31097405

I know that feel anon. If I had my shit together right out of high school I'd have an amazing collection. As it stands I'm scrounging for decent milsurp and have to pay through the nose for stuff that even five years ago was half as expensive (assuming I can even find it).

I just got a 1916 Carl Gustaf marked Swedish Mauser with the brass micrometer sights. All-matching, what I would call very good to excellent surplus condition. I'm embarrassed to say how much I paid for it.

Thank god I make $75k a year starting...

For new shooters, how much ammo should one take to the range to last about an hour? Given your shooting about 1 every 5 seconds roughly.

Type 53 owner. Can confirm. I remember when they were like $80 plus tax. I bought one with a beat to shit stock but really good metal and a decent barrel. Stripped off the dirt/cosmoline and refinished the stock with shellac. 10/10 would buy again for funsies.

Not sure what it is anon, try the standard sticky bolt fixes and inspect your extractor. My mosin has a sticky bolt but it is from pitting in the chamber too deep to polish out. Kinda bummed about it but i suppose it means it was used in WWII so that is kinda neat '31 hex izhevsk, it still shoots but you have to beat the bolt around like a mail order bride. Hurts your hands after 30 rounds. Picked up a '46 M44 that thing shoots like a dream and is damn accurate for a mosin. Weird thing is I paid less for it than my 91/30. LGS had it marked like it was 2008 and the thing has a remington contract bolt.
>>
>>31097037
Have you tried disassembling and cleaning the bolt? That solved my sticky bolt issues.

That's hilarious because I usually describe the woodworking on the stock as made by drunk Hungarian kindergarteners.

I'm just astonished that people would shell out ~$300 for any Mosin that isn't guaranteed to be a wartime collectible. These aren't great guns and $300 can buy you a wide selection of used guns which are much more fun to shoot.

surplus mosin ammo is .35 cents a round. New mosin ammo is .65 a round. It doesnt matter what the surplus cost is, since a lot of ranges wont allow steel case or steel core, which is what surplus has. but if they do allow that, the academy near me sells 20 round boxes for $9. I could even buy monarch 54r bulk packaged in new manufacture spam cans for $180, though I stick to privi at about $12-14 a box online.

the rifles themselves are still easily $100-150 at small local gunstores, on armslist, or in pawnshops. I just bought a 35' tula from a pawnshop/gunstore last month for $100 even.
The chinese midget mosins (dont remember their type number) sell for 150-175 all the time, theyre just not as easy to find.

if you really seriously just cant find a mosin for sale locally, yugo and turk mausers are $200-250. surplus 8mm (especially turkish ammo) is trash so dont bother buying it. new manufacture privi 8mm sells for about $15-18 a box. Yugo sks's are only $400 right now where avalible and are probably the last time youll see a cheap new sks

if you decide to get a new gun instead, do yourself a favor and buy a semi auto.
>>
>>31097385
This guy is correct sadly. A budget of 250 anymore will hardly get you a decent .22. Any centerfire you buy for that price is going to be below average in quality. Save a little more, trust me it'll be worth it to get something that will last.

>I just bought a 35' tula from a pawnshop/gunstore last month for $100 even.
Good bait.
>>
>>31111402
its not though.
It was missing the rear tang screw, which is like a $10 part shipped. But because the screw was missing, one of the plates that goes between the trigger and stock got bent up, which in turn made the trigger pull shit, and made it difficult to remove the bolt. When I got it home, I pulled off the trigger guard/magazine, hammered the plate flat, and reassembled with the screw from my other mosin so I could take it to the range.
Its got an amazingly smooth bolt for a mosin, and theres a definate quality difference between it and my 43' izzy.

So technically it was $100 for a rifle with no accessories, and missing a $10 part that I had a spare of.
