The only thing I could see that's wrong with toy guns is they're meant to be pointed at people. You pull the trigger, it makes a "pew!" sound, it's a fun little toy. Then the kid finds a real gun. He doesn't understand it's really different from his toy and injures/kills his brother.

My uncle gave me an M16A2 rubber ducky inert when I was 6. That thing was too big for me to handle, yet I still played army man games with my friends. Our childhood games would be considered violent by today's standards, but even then we knew our boundaries.

Today I'm just a mild mannered guy. I'm not violent in nature and I haven't killed anybody. I can't even remember the last time I hit anybody, with the exception of my gf whose fat ass I love to smack.

Pretty sure most kids have a firm grasp on the line between fantasy and reality reasonably early on. There's the 3edgy tween phase where they think shooting makes them a walking navy seal pasta, but I doubt that's related to toys so much as media portrayal. Those that don't get into guns do other weird shit instead.

My mother was a hippie so I didn't play violent video games until I was ten or so, but I doubt I was much better or worse for it. I suspect it did me favors in that I wasn't playing many video games at all at the time and developed a lot of other interests, but I don't think there was any subject specific detriment

When I was a kid we did fullout wars with some nerf guns. We would get really inventive too. We learned how to make grenades with rubber bands and a handful of darts. I knew a kid who made kinda of a claymore with a bunch of rubber bands and Popsicle sticks. Sometimes we'd get so heated it literally turned into a melee of toy swords and actually rifle butting each other. I gave at least three kids black eyes.
