I prefer the Ithaca 37.
>>31086614
sexy gun right there
>>31086614
I've been looking at the 37, any reason not to get it? Doesn't look like the aftermarket is real big.
>>31086614
>cheap
I got this for $250. '51 Wingmaster, 30 in bbl. Going to get a 18.5 in bbl, +1 extension and six-round shell carrier.

>>31086665
ithaca 37s are cheap as fuck while being well made and are regularly had for ~200
t. Ithaca 37 owner
>>31086644
if you dont care about extended magazines get it.
Ithaca's only come from the factory with an extended tube, and they are a bitch to find.
you can't install one yourself unfortunately.
>>31086644
not really, they're well made and affordable, only reason i see is fixed chokes if, but many were outfitted with adjustables anyway, plus you could have it cut for screw in chokes if it matters enough to you.
>>31086583
>>31086602
>>31086614
All of these are trash suggestions.
Op, bit of advice:
NEVER, EVER, EVER BUY A SHOTGUN THAT DOESNT COME THREADED FOR CHOKES.
>>31086833
Bitch shut your mouth. Modified is good enough for almost anything, and a threaded barrel is like a hundred dollars if it's that important
>>31086833
threaded chokes werent the standard until relatively recently, its really not that big of a deal unless youre using one gun for everything. plus most fixed chokes are modified which is kind of a jack of all trades choke
>>31086544
You should be able to find a Mossberg 500 for 200 or under in about any shop if you look hard enough.
>>31086544
Good ol fashion flintlock style
>>31086833
I actually know very little about chokes.
>>31086881
MAYBE a used Maverick 88, a 500 is not going to be <200
>>31086614
Ithaca is fkn sexual
>>31086854
>I want my guns to come with less features and to cost more!
Fuck off
>>31086866
It's a big deal if you intend to use a shotgun for something other than one specific thing. A company that is able to provide a service, then doesn't provide it simply because idiots might not notice the absence, is no company that I would sponsor.
>>31086887
They make your spread tighter or less tight. Not hugely complicated.
>>31086897
There was a 12ga also for $10 more, but I already have two 12ga.
Might not be the same in other areas, shotguns are like the native animal of Pennsylvania. Every house seems to have at least one.
Mavericks hover around the 200 mark new at some places.
>>31086928
like i said, modified is a very versatile choke, and original Ithaca 37s were made during a time when screw in chokes were not the standard. Ithaca 37s are and always have been relatively inexpensive, for 200 bucks you get a well built, lightweight shotgun that does everything it needs to do and nothing it doesn't. not asking for your endorsement, just saying the general consensus is you get a lot of bang for your buck out of them and if you really need screw in chokes thats like $100 at your gunsmith and you've got something that competes with any new production pump action for probably less than you'd spend on say a new 870 or mossberg 500
>>31086993
damn son, good find then, though I still have to imagine thats more the exception and not the rule. how was the condition?
>>31086897
iv found several mossbergs under $200 in my area i just have one so i never get them,
also bought Ithaca 37, Remington pre model 11, winchester 1897, and a winchester 12 all for under $200
>>31086912
>non corncob forend
You fucked up.
>>31087084
I'm jealous, I would have bought them all (assuming they were in decent shape)
>>31087018
Worn finish where the pump rides around and a light rust figerprint by where the barrel is stamped with the chambering info. Previous owner had a thing for spraying lithium grease absolutely everywhere, guess the shop priced it a lil cheaper instead of cleaning it.
Functions 10/10, but that's to be expected of a pump shotgun.
I'd go back and get the matching 12ga just to make an SBS but I'm working the next two weeks during all business hours.

>>31087184
The Featherlite?
>>31087122
Some of them needed a little work so i was able to talk the pawn shops down in price from that.
the Ithaca is in great shape and is old enough to slamfire. Remington has the common split in the handguard, but it was a clean split so some woodglue and a refinish fixed it. Winchester 12 had a badly cut down barrel but i was able to recut and clean it up easily. 1897 looks like it was in a flood, so i chopped it down to barely legal length {both barrel and overall) and have a fun fuck around gun, but i only paid $82ish for it.
>>31087216
I thought the featherlight was the plain one withe the corncob pump but maybe they don't have different model names for the non-deerslayers
>>31087238

>It's so versatile, so why bother having the thing that would cost the company no money and no time to install?
>Also the $500 pricetag totally excuses the fact that you can buy an EAA MKA semiauto for 400 that comes with chokes!
Oh wait
Can someone school a complete retard on the Winchester 1897.
What i know....
The difference between riot/trench/trap/pigeon etc......
prices for each type
basic mechanics
What i dont know/wanna know
how the safety works (ive never owned a pump shotgun)
the "full" on the barrel does it refer to a choke?
ammo nuances specifically with the 1897
any random tidbits.
Also feel free to post any articles or pages thatll help me if you dont feel like posting walls of text or spoon feeding me

I like your style.
I've got a 40s model 1897 and I think the Auto 5 is from the 50s or 60s. Paid $400 for both, but that was kind of pre cowboy action shooting pumping up the prices of 97s.
Mav 88 is basically a moss 500 without the extras. I don't care for the Remingtons. I don't trust the super cheap offbrand pumps either.
>>31089786
>Winchester M12
He said new, not old as hell. And no one mentions Maverick 88? Really

>>31089786

>>31090324
Moss 500 is about as cheap as I'd go with a shotgun. I guess the maverick even if I was on a super tight budget. Most people don't factor in a nice case, sling, ammo, and some sort of target when buying a gun
I have both a H&R Pardner Pump and a Remington 870...
> Both are reliable/rugged

Actually no where in OPs post does he state he cares about new or old - Just that he wanted "cheap"
>>31086644
Ithaca's are great, but...
If they jam, which can happen, they are a huge pain in the ass to clear. The action gets jammed up, so you can't "pump" through it.

4473 defines a pistol. Many States make a distinction between handguns and other firearms.
There seems to be no definitive answer regarding concealed carry of AOWs.
better question,
what is an expensive shotgun?
>>31092783
Define expensive.
>>31086544
The Browning BPS is a great pump action shotgun, the quality is superb. The Beretta A300 Outlander, Beretta's entry-level shotgun, is another good choice; it'll cost more than a Mossberg or a Remington, but you'll get what you pay for. Along those lines, the Benelli Supernova is a great line of pump action shotguns.
