Total hk/ptr noob here
Does anyone have experience with the newer century c308 rifles? I live in MD where my options are limited and was interested in buying one this week as opposed to an AR10 or 308 VEPR. These are my only legal options for a battle rifle and I already own a 54r VEPR. Due to the utter retardation of this state, the c308 is legal but 308 ptr rifles are not.
Am I about to throw away $699 on drunken monkey manufacturing or are the newer century c308's any good?
Don't buy from Century

I know their older rifles were garbage but I've seen glowing reviews from several youtube channels while others report 3 to 5 MOA.
Not sure who to beleive. Never held one

Still bumping
Send help

it's a crapshoot. you could end up with a perfectly functional gun, or something like this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CUE1l-2yR3M
personally i'd go for an ar10, but if you really like your x54r vepr might as well get a x51
also afaik i'm pretty sure there aren't really any "newer" c308's

If thats the only hk pattern you can get just dont order one online. Get one in person and walk out if they wont let you do a detailed inspection. Learn how to check bolt gap and checking cocking tube spacing to ensure you get an accurate meassure on bolt gap. All you need is a set of feeler guages to inspect it, and you can get them for less than 20 $ at an auto parts place. Everthing else can be fixed very cheaply and easily as long as the barrel/trunnion/bolt are good to go.

Thanks for the detailed response. I know century's quality is hit or miss and I dont want to make a poor investment with my limited income. They are available online but personally inspecting the rifle before paying sounds much safer. I will look for tutorials online using those keywords.
Does anyone actually own a working c308? Some youtubers are bragging about 1 to 2 MOA. Others, see above link, are getting 5 MOA consistantly. Thats complete garbage.
Pretty sure MD has now banned the C308, because it's a G3 clone. I THINK .308-cal AR-pattern rifles aren't regulated by your laws, but IDK with that whole "heavy barrel" bullshit. Some Googling leads me to believe it is a grey-white area in the law.

C308's are still fine because its a century mishmash of parts and not a milspec g3 pattern rifle. 100% certain. Has to do with parts compatability. Thats why the vz58 is legal but the ak is not. Same function but different parts
I've had no problems with mine for 600. The only gripe I have is that the muzzle brake makes it horribly loud. dont buy one with pic related
My friend owned a Century G3 clone and he hated it. He sold it and hasn't looked back.
>>31086269
>100% certain
http://mdsp.maryland.gov/Organization/Pages/CriminalInvestigationBureau/LicensingDivision/Firearms/FirearmSearch.aspx
>has to do with parts compatability
It's a 100% G3-spec receiver; 100% parts compatibility.
>>31085912
Yo. Bring a Spacer Gage. You can get them at a auto parts store. Measure the Bolt Gap and if its in spec, buy the gun.
>>31085912
well, i got a c93, the first one they sent me was a total dud, 0 headspace and wouldn't chamber a round. Headspacing is apparently where century usually fucks up, or the headspacing wears too fast.
That being said, 800 rounds later the second rifle they sent me was perfect, and thats how i became the skeleton man

>>31086355
Normally I would let that be the end of the argument but Atlantic firearms does not list MD as a state to which they cannot ship the rifles. Also, several members of mdshooters.org report buying them in the last year.
Its a gray zone, like how the ak is banned twice by name but you can buy 54r and 308 VEPR's without a problem
>>31086433
tl;dr
buy from a place with easy return policy
Buy PTR. H&K tooling and stellar customer service. The Spanish are the dirt people of Europe, so CETME is shit.
>>31086577
agreed, totally forgot about the hk diopter vs cetme flip sight.
sorry op, going to have to move to a free state to enjoy true HKish goodness.
>>31086622
The flip slight is also trash; horrible sight picture. Anon is right. Move to a free state. The easiest way to do so is tell you HR department that you're okay with moving. Work you ass off harder than anyone around you. Walk faster than them, and do everything better. You're boss will ask if you want to manage in another state. If the state is free, bingo. Companies will most likely pay for all of your moving expenses too. Keep those receipts!

I work full time in MD as an ambulance driver and am in college for my RN (nursing liscence). In 5 years I'd like to own a home in another state but it's a long way from now
/k/omrades. Hopefully the constitution holds up until then.
>>31086734
Ouch. That's one big "if."
>>31087512
If the constitution don't hold you be damn sure the country won't hold together.
>>31087801
Mississippi is a nice place for such an occasion. Slim pickings on the female front though.
Bumpin with my PTR. So far I've gotten an RTG clipped and pinned metal lower, g3 wide handguard w/ bipod, g3 sling, heavy buffer, od German furniture kit for the stock and charging handle. I put a Primary Arms 5x prism optic on it.
The only thing I want is a port buffer.
>>31088148
I'd be willing to sell you mine that I didn't like but it wouldn't work since you have the welded rail. There's nothing wrong with it, I just hated how it looked on my rifle.
>>31088148
How do you feel the heavy buffer affects recoil? I'm thinking of getting one when I order my PTR.
>>31088623
It was left in the surplus stock I got from RTG. From what I've learned the g3s came with them stock. Prior to that I had the regular PTR stock that iirc didn't even have a buffer.
It's less recoil but the bolt being a massive chunk of metal that's locked until the bullet has left the barrel means that its recoil is already going to be different than a short stroke FAL, DI AR-10 or bolt action. It kind of feels like a two step recoil. The gun sort of jumps a tiny, tiny bit before the bolt closes. You can feel the delay if you get a lot of time with it. Handling is much nicer if you know it well.
Old pic but relevant
>>31087801
Honestly with how pacified people are nowadays the idea of a majority uprising about anything is highly unlikely. I'd imagine there may be small groups of resistance, but cnn and msnbc would be quick to label them "terrorists". The people will cheer when the last patriots are killed.
I wouldn't even consider a Century G3 clone. I've got a PTR, it's been solid, I'll never shoot it enough to wear it out.
>>31085921
Or more clearly, don't buy things that Century builds. If they merely import something, put their import mark on it, and then offer it for sale then it's fine.
>>31085921
I've heard they've made better models later on, but I'm not too sure if that's true.
I think the concensus here is that these rifles are hit or miss. Some are fine, others are not. Sounds like I should inspect the rifle in person and make sure my LGS has a good return policy or is willing to ship it out for warranty work.
>>31086530
unf, beautiful.
>>31091276
yes the later ones are slightly better than the earlier ones they made, but they're still not good. you'd be better off spending $100 more for a PTR and knowing it's not going to shit out on you after 1000 rounds.
>>31086449
>Atlantic firearms does not list MD as a state to which they cannot ship the rifles.
Because Atlantic Firearms is in Maryland.
>>31086234
Its better to save $200 more and get a PTR that's known to work as it should than gambling on a mixed review rifle.
