Yep, it's possible

Very expenisve, and a few hoops to jump through, though.

Consider ammunition costs too, 7.92x57mm can't be bought all that cheaply anymore, you'll no really good surplus is left, so you'll have to buy modern commercial loads.
>>
>>31083988
I realize how retarded the cabelas comment was but I was tired and maybe my brain didn't register that people wouldactually buy a semi auto for >2k. And it's not like cabelas doesn't occasionally sell automatic weapons.

The Internet seemed to be bone dry when it comes to mg 42s, I wasn't aware of how many guns had entered the country.
>>
>>31084880
>And it's not like cabelas doesn't occasionally sell automatic weapons
They don't, actually. When the hell have you ever seen NFA-anything in a Cabela's?

In Bosnia I have a gun that is almost the same, it's called M53

They may have just been massively over charging for century-arms tier guns, I remeber a uzi looking thing being sold for several thousand Dollars (6k think?) at a cabelas near reno.

It's the Balkans. The laws are mere suggestions.

I attended a party in Croatia, full of educated well mannered types. Journalists, professors, civil servants and landowners. The evening culminated in me putting three magazines into the side of an ancient barn with a M70 the host had produced from his office as people stood on and cheered.

In Serbia and Bosnia it's even less restrictive. The law might say one thing, but if you know the local police officer and keep on the right side of him you're free to pretty much to do as you like.
>>
>>31085863
Pretty much this, if you're out in a village the local police station can be over an hour away, they have much better shit to do than mess with someone that isn't really doing anything. If I was threatening people and shit then they might pay me a visit but if I'm owning guns and keeping to myself they won't say anything. 6 pack of grenades is cheaper there than a full tank of gas in America. Its not uncommon for people to have RPGs and grenades among other fun things.
>>
>>31083561
get a m53 parts kit and pay a smith to build a semi out of it
Get the german tripod that has a recoil buffer built into it, those pretty much bumpfire at FA speed
>>
>>31083561
There anything in particular you wanna shoot with this thing, or do you just think it's too cool not to have?
>>
>>31085174
Yeah, you're not touching giggle switch guns for less than around $8k, and even that's gonna be a raggedy Ingram or Mac-something (usually .45, because nobody wants to shoot .45acp at 1200rpm).

The cheapest rifles I've seen were the full-wood-stock fullsize Uzi's, and those were going for about $12k last I looked. Something like a transferrable AR is $21k+ and even the shittier select-fire rifles are usually $18k+.

Stens can be had for as little as $3000 at times.
Given the nature of Ingrams and similar as basic and entrylevel, there's a fair aftermarket for them. If you just want to put a stock on a MAC-11 that doesn't suck, there's a bunch of options for that, if you want to put sights on it that don't sucks, there's possibilities there too.

MAC-10s and stuff used to be even cheaper, but the advent of Slowfire uppers turned a simple little bullethose into a controllable and decent subgun, better points of contact, better sights and a top-rail, a rate of fire that's reasonable.
Lage offers that and a host of other upgrade parts to turn an old Cobray M-11/9 into a pretty respectable weapon (magazines are another issue, but there's ways to get stuff like that reliably working).

As for actual rifles, typically, anything select-fire that shoots a rifle cartridge (assault rifles and battle rifles, etc) tend to be $20000 or more (belt-fed guns especially more), but there's some exceptions.
A Ruger AC-556 model can often be had below $10000 (probably even lower if you're looking at a regular Mini-14 converted to full-auto), an old FN FNC can be had for just barely over that (the backside being that they can't be rebarreled and are all in lousy condition, on the flipside, there are more FNC autosears than there are actual FNC rifles, so if some shop started putting out FNC replicas, that'd be a new option). I've seen old STG44s go for as low as $13000 which probably has to do with the fact that 7.92x33mm isn't very cheap or common in North America.

There's Lightning-Links, they can go for as low as $7000, but the only AR-15 they will fit in without work is old Colt SP-1 rifles, any AR-15 made after the 80's will simply not accept one, you need to rework the receiver to make it fit, you need to modify/swap out the bolt-carrier, you need to swap out the sear (this can all be done legally if you have a transferable Link or Drop-In Auto-Sear, but it's not gonna be cheap).

I thought they are more than that now? I regret not buying at $7k, instead I got 2 MAC style guns (9mm and 380).

Also, aren't reising SMGs cheap?

>>31087990
Yeah, they're pretty sexy.
If all you want is the looks, an old Mini-14GB is basically the same thing as the AC-556, sans being select-fire, that would be cheaper. You could also look at just the folding stock alone (that's about 500) and go put it in a brand new 580 series Mini-14, that way you'd have pretty decent accuracy with the kickass stock.
However they never made any short barreled GB models, only the AC-556k had a carbine barrel.

The downside to this is also that a lot of these guns have worn out bores. For just blasting and letting loose on full-auto, it'll do alright, but you'll get substandard accuracy out of a lot of them (when an AC-556k in pristine condition should shoot pretty fine, like 3-4MOA maybe), the barrel can be replaced, but it'll cost ya. Be aware that the fire-selector needs to be in the up position when disassembling the action.

>>31088015
>9mm and .380
Why get both? Unless you're collecting I figure you could sell the .380

The Reising can be cheap, but the thing with the Reising is that magazines are just bullshit, there's 20rd stickmags, aaaand that's about as good as it gets, you can get single-stack 10rounders, and aftermarket 50rd mags which don't work for fuckall.

The Reising is kind of a good design in some ways, and kind of a bad design in others.
You could probably make one run pretty decently, even make a pretty great weapon with the help of a really good gunsmith, but expect to put a lot of work into it.

Spare parts is a rollercoaster, since these things didn't really have standardized parts.
>>
>>31087595
>can't rebarrel an FNC

What're you talking about? The FNC's serial number isn't on the barrel it's on the lower.

In Finland it is possible to own a full-auto MG42 if you're a registered collector. Now the problem with being a collector is that you have to be a well known person of good character in the gun community and known as such to the law-enforcement officials. Basically this means that you have to be a person who has been part of the gun community for decades and are influential enough (usually through politics or NGOs) to get special permits from the local police department. Extremely hard but possible.
>>
>>31089125
The ATF doesn't want you to rebarrel a select-fire FNC to my understanding, hence why so many of them are stuck with shot out bores.
>>
>>31083561
So for utility (fighting the gov, defending property, etc), would /k/ rather have an mg 42 or an m60?

Ignore cost and weight.
>>
Is there any armor that offers really good protection in a prone firing position? Like a level iv face plate and helmet or something?
>>
>>31083561
There are some but they're expensive. Same goes for MG3 - you can actually find them but they cost A LOT. Not counting semi-auto obviously, why would you get semi-auto GPMG.

A full auto original MG42 is 1.880,83 EUR here, but you have to be a collector to own it.

I mean shit, the most expensive full auto weapon from this store is the KPV hmg for 4k €
>>
>>31092981
Back in 1986 the american congress (fraudulently) outlawed the possession of any machineguns unless they were already legally possessed. So there is a fixed number of mg's that can be traded around but demand keeps rising so the prices are insane.

At this point its cheaper to get a firearms dealer licence and pay a special tax that lets you own all the full autos you want (as long as you're technically trying to sell them to the police and military)
>>
>>31092180
Federally, any gun you want to make has to comply with the NFA, meaning if a gun is subject to NFA regulation (Short Barreled Rifle, Destructive Device, Machinegun, etc), you must first do the paperwork and register this weapon.

Since you're no longer allowed to register a new Machinegun without a Type 07 SOT, you'd pretty much be shit out of luck on that one, at that, Machineguns registered by a Type 07 SOT cannot be transferred to a regular person, if you want a Machinegun in the US, the easiest way is simply to buy a grandfathered one.
>>
>>31083561
You can get an M53 (Yugo MG42) parts kit and build a semi-auto if you want to go through the trouble

>>
>>31083561
Buying a demilled parts kit and rebuilding it semi auto is the cheapest and legal choice. I did it and it cost about 2grand but it took a lot to get it together. It's a junkyard dog but its a lot of fun.
>>
>>31092180
It's like making moonshine, driving an unsafe vehicle, or strangling a whore: perfetly legal as long as no-one finds out.

People tend to find out unless you live in WV or Montana.
>>
>>31094500
It's complicated, as any political "problems" are, but basically it was an amendment that was an afterthought tacked onto a vote of something else that was dependent on something else that was also responsible for something else.

The passing of the Hughes amendment was a total mess. I mean, just look at how it was run.

Basically it was attached to the FOPA by a voice vote (and requests for an electronic vote were ignored) and then the FOPA was passed as a whole by both a voice and electronic vote.

Here's a good rundown of what happened.

First of all I'm not a gun owner, yet, so I don't have that much info about our legal gun dealings.
The Zastava is legal, but you need to already have a permit and have proof of participating in shooting competitions, if I understand the situation correctly.

CL equivalent is this site and they have a category for all kinds of shooting, but it's not that much gun stuff really.
http://m.bolha.com/rekreacija-sport/strelstvo/

I know some milsurp sites, but they aren't really foreign-friendly in their design or shipping. I think these guys are your best bet for actually learning anything useful in english. Check their FB or YT and ask around a little, them or their fans should be able to help you.

You can make whatever the fuck you want as long as you follow federal and local firearms laws. As such, no fully automatic guns unless you talk to the ATF and see if you can do it and pay the stamp. Also, be leery of open-bolt designs, depending on where you are.
