Is 9mm Really enough to defend yourself?
>>
Yes. Next question.
>>
Shot placement is king.

Caliber is the court fucking jester.
>>
Federal HST +P will do the job.

45 acp does too and 45 acp has the added benefit of having all the same ammo types and perks of 9mm but also the ability to fire 45 super which has the same capabilities of a 10mm.

It'll do just fine.
>>
>>31079200
Yes yes, we know 45 acp is better, but his question is "is 9mm enough to defend yourself," and I think that even though this is bait, we can all agree that the 9mm is more than capable of putting holes in people
>>
>>31079216
Not really, .45 diminishes hydrostatic shock with its slower muzzle velocity. Not as if it really matters, four rounds of the hot stuff will shut anyone down.
>>
>>31079244

>hydrostatic shock
>9mm
Choose one
>>
>>31079244
>still believing pistol rounds cause hydrostatic shock

Anon, get your shit together. People have done the research, all you have to do is go look it up.
>>
>>31079244
It's marginal 300 energy different. If you really care get something bigger than punny 45acp

If you doubt most ammo, you could always go the beefiest route, and get the heavy-hitters. Obviously HSTs are great, but I've played with 147gr flat-point FMJ and at the range that you would draw down, either in the streets or in your house, it'll hit just like a light .357 would up close. Lots of oomph. I've dispatched plenty of wild hogs and range barriers with pic related and it's one of my personal favorites because it feeds so well too.

Does 9mm have any advantages if one lives in a socialist shithole with limitations on the capacity of magazines.
>>
>>31079270

Hydrostatic shock is a myth in handgun calibers period.
>>
>>31079371

No. Unless you're trying to go small for concealment or comfort.
>>
>>31079371
I mean if youve got limited Magazine size like say 10 rds, you want something bigger than a 9mm. Part of the draw of 9mm is the amount of rounds in a magazine.
>>
Let's ask Trayvon
>>
>>31079378

Yes, that is what I was implying.
>>
>>31079371
Haven't bothered with handguns yet because I too lice in a socialist shithole that regulates ammo capacity. Wouldn't 9mm be cheaper to shot?
>>
>>31079488

9mm is also the max calibre. (e.g. .357 is allowed but .45 isn't)

so the only unrestricted options are 10rd 9mm concealed carry or sub compacts.
>>
>>31079831
... Fuck dude. That's hilarious and sad, I'm never leaving Alaska.
>>
>>31079857

I think the most pitiful options is a 10 round FN FiveseveN
>>
>>31079371
>>31079805
You can't CC in canada, holmes. Just get a shotgun for HD.

As a bonus, if you weld a drum mag into something like a saiga or vepr or whatever, and there's a way to reload it without removing it, you can have all the rounds in it that you can handle. Mag limits only apply to DETACHABLE magazines.
>>
>>31079867
... Well, It has better range and accuracy than a 9mm but you would have to be a straight operator to use it effectively . Shot placement would be king and you'd have to hit the range alot to develop good shot placement and you'd have to be rich to hit the range alot because the five seven gun and ammo is not cheap.
>>
>>31079873
How would you load the drum? Through the ejection port?
>>
>>31078379
Yes because when you draw, the attacker will just die laughing
>>
>>31079200
>MUH SUPER
the number of people who actually use .45 super is probably a tiny fraction of the number of people who actually use 10 mm.
>>
>>31080046
I've never heard of 45 super what is it? I Google it, but it doesn't really say who uses it and what its for.
>>
>>31080062
it's .45 ACP with a thicker case head and higher (but still quite low) pressure.
benefit is any .45 ACP gun can fire it because the external dimensions are identical.
drawback is that you're firing an overpressure cartridge in a gun that wasn't designed for it.
>>
>>31080062
oh and pretty much nobody uses it.
>>
>>31079361
He's all busting through that shit like hes all macho then cries like a little bitch because he gets shot.

FPBP
>>
>>31078379
It's as good as .40, .45 and possibly even .357sig.

It's not as good as 10mm or .44mag. The reason is that those rounds will blow a large hole all the way through and out the other side giving the best opportunity to bleed out. They also perform much better through barriers.

So, "Is 9mm really enough"? Yes, against unarmed humans in relatively close range who aren't standing behind thick barriers.
>>
I once overheard some guys in highschool talking about .45 vs 9mm, one was arguing that 9mm had no stopping power and the other argued that "9mm sure stopped me"

I wonder if that other guy browsed /k/
