So I'm planning on getting a handgun for the first time and looking for anything under $700. I was thinking of getting an American Tactical Imports FXH-45 1911 but it looks like a meme gun trying to be a glock. What does /K recommend for a pistol that shoots .45 acp?
>>
Rock Island Armory makes nice 1911s for half that.

Glock 21. You really don't want a 1911 for your first handgun.

Fuck this guy

1911s are great guns for shooters. Glocks are fine, but they're nothing special. Very plain.

Get a gun that YOU think you would like. If you want a 1911, get a 1911.

2nd Generation S&Ws are also great choices.
>>
Seconded for Glock 21.

>>31078013
Why not? I don't plan on spending less than $1000 on a nice 1911.

You might need to buy a heavier recoil spring. A 1911 just doesn't come perfect out of the box in most cases.

You should be fine within 10-25 yards as long as you have a 5 inch barrel.

Remington R1 is a solid gun EXCEPT take that fucking set screw out of the trigger! It will fuck you up a some point if you don't. Otherwise a great shooter plus it was about $700 when I got one new about 4 years ago.

>>31077980
I've heard shooting a Rock island sucks, that the ergonomics for it is painful. Might as well pay an extra hundred dollars and get a Springfield.

how does /k/ feel about The FNX/FNP-45 series?
is there any differences?

also M45A1, is there anything making it different from a 1911 internally?

thanks /k/

Glock is like the Honda accord of the gun world.
Sure, it works- usually.
Has a utilitarian feel that most people can deal with.
Parts are cheap.

But you always feel like you own a piece of crap.

1911 is the best with .45
all other sub-compact polymer variants are better with 9mm or .40

You can get a used MC Operator for around $700 some times.

What's the best semi-custom 1911 or custom 1911 manufacturer? What should I get if I want a top of the line 1911? Money is no issue.

When you say they're not especially accurate, do you mean this relative to other 1911s or just in general?

Seconded. They have standard 1911A1 models in your price range as well a the double stack 1911A2. I'm considering the double stack 6" 10mm myself.
>16+1 of 10mm goodness
>>
>>31081896
Hope you don't like full power 10mm ammo
>>
>>31081411 OP here while getting a high point is by far the cheapest gun I could get, I refuse, it's such a ugly and heavy gun. The only good things I've heard about high points are that their durable and that they shoot pretty well since their so heavy (they still jam and misfire). I'm planning on using a handgun for concealed carry and to shoot at the range. A high point is something you'll use when you don't want your main firearms to be damaged or something you don't mind losing.

I've only ever heard good things about the FNX/P

As far as polymer 45s go I'd say FN and H&K are probably best, although Glock is, as always, considered decent.

1911 is still my preferred though.

>also M45A1, is there anything making it different from a 1911 internally?

It's a series 80 and it doesn't use MIM parts, but with Colt MIM parts don't matter cause Colt doesn't fuck it up like third-world gun manufacturers do in the first place (this is where MIM gets a bad rap). There's two variations though, the M45A1 CQBP and the M45A1 CQBP CCS.

The former is cheaper, is a production variant and the same pistol the Marines are issued. The advantage is it's "battle ready"; you're getting the same gun that Marines are ready to be equipped with, something that's always a plus even if it sounds tactiboo.

The latter is the CCS version, or, Colt Custom Shop. Same gun, but it's been through hand fitting and all and generally costs an additional $800. I've held this one in the shop and you can tell it's different from a production Colt.

Can someone help me understand something? I have a Taurus PT 1911, I did my research, looked up a bunch of reviews and discussions of it and saw a lot of glowing feedback from sport shooters and even a few military vets from other countries.

It has never once had any problems for me, shoots straight, never jams or malfunctions, and was well priced, it is exactly what I wanted.

I have no experience with any other Taurus products and only started hearing about all the hate for them for bad quality after I bought my 1911, but judging by my handgun, I can't see any evidence of that.

So what's the hate about? Is it just a reflex, or is the 1911 the one good thing the actually made?
>>
>>31081965
Just buy like three or four of them and if one jams pull out another one.
>>
>>31081996
Supposedly the frame and slide are OK, the rest is typical Taurus MIM junk. With all the other options available now, why bother? Anyone wanting a good "value" 1911 should just get an SR1911.
>>
>>31077963

Tisas 1911 will run you ~$400 and be better quality than a lot of other stuff you'll find in that range.
>>
>>31077980
>>31081896

OP here I was leaning more for American Tactical imports since both companies are in Philippines and I assumed that both would be similar quality but seeing as two people already recommend RIA I give them another look over.
>>
I see a lot of positive reviews for the norinco 1911's, has anybody here had one or can someone tell me if I should get one?
>>
>>31081996
>So what's the hate about? Is it just a reflex, or is the 1911 the one good thing the actually made?
Taurus does make shit products by and large, maybe you got a good one. But as >>31082031 said, it's a lot of MIM parts, and as I say here >>31081982 MIM parts aren't something to be automatically hated, but when it's Taurus, I wouldn't trust it. Taurus has a bad reputation, and it's not unjustified hate. Look up PT24/7 malfunction where a guy just shakes the gun a bit and it goes off.

For a NIB 1911 on a budget you have some options:

>RIA
Cheapest option, but risky, won't know if you'll get a lemon or not

>Remington
Shit mags but otherwise supposedly solid. If you don't care it's Remington/Freedom Group, then go for it.

>Ruger
Only known issues are tight extractors. Easy to fix, but if you'd rather not fix a NIB gun yourself Ruger's customer support is second to none and free for life (it's unwritten, but that's how they honor it)

>Springfield
Pretty much the safest bet for a production 1911

>>31082073
>Philippines
Armscor makes 1911 frames, RIA is owned by them and ATI just uses their frames. Tons of people use their frames actually, even STI uses them and they make high end 1911s.
>>
colt 1911

stop being a poorfag nigger and get a glock if you want a cheap 1911

t. guy who has a colt and a rock island
>>
>>31077963
OP, I advise you to avoid any 1911 that strays from the original spec, it's just asking for trouble. That goes double for imports. If you want tactical features get an RIA. Any of these low end 1911s are prone to reliability issues, but with minor tuning such as spring changes or extractor work they can be made to run like a sewing machine.
>>
>>31078233
This is bait, or you're retarded.

>>31078278
There are many good .45's to choose from. 1911's are great at some things, and not at others. You don't need to pretend they are Excalibur or whatever, fudd.

>>31078542
Agreed, you shouldn't spew what you've "heard" as actual advice.

>>31082094
I have one, it isn't very pretty. "made in china" on the frame, and the slide and frame are different finishes. The rear sight is incredibly sharp. However it is excellent in every other regard. It has produced very good groups, and I haven't had any malfunctions. If you can find one cheap, it's a good budget 1911.

I will tell you though. You may think that you are okay with going budget, but you may end up purchasing something more expensive down the line. If you have an idea of what you want, save yourself time and money, and just go for the one you really want. Good luck OP.
>>
>>31078040
>2nd gen for first timers instead of 3rd

2nd gen is good for S&W nuts, have heavy triggers, easier to ruin finishes, and are harder to take apart

Something like a 5906 would be an awesome first gun, though
>>
>>31078205
It's pretty good, have an FNX as my nightstand gun. Easy to take apart, accurate, trigger is workable; biggest downside is that it's fuckhuge and the mags are $50/per
>>
>>31078890
This with wood grips.
