Finland would be steam rolled within few days waiting to be bailed out by western Europe or USA.

Occupying Finland however would make Iraq or Afghanistan seem like a picnic though. But if Russkies just steam roll to Helsinki and change the regime to more like minded one after which they would go home and only provide material and SF support would make Finnish conflict completely internal which would probably be more preferable for Russians.

Anon pls. Finnish reservists perform excellently in every single international excercise they take part it and based on their performance are just as good as professional soldiers when it comes to warfare.

Russians would be also fighting in terrain that they are not used to fighting. Most russian troops are proficient in large armored assaults across open terrain where the commander can actually see his troops. In forested terrain - you can hardly even see the man next to you. It´s something you need to train for. This is almost all that the Fins do. In the forested terrain - light infantry prevails. Russians are mostly heavy infantry trained to fight along side their IFV
Fins also have A lot of artillery. This will be used against the enemy as they inevitably pile up at choke points created by the landscape.
Russian will not be able to provide large amounts of experienced and trained troops, since there is a huge frontline with NATO that needs to be manned.

Russia isn't like the USSR at all. The USSR had a much larger population and stretched much more into Europe. 1941 border went from Bessarabia to the Baltics, this gave the USSR much more of a buffer against Germany. Modern Russia would just launch a bunch of nukes and if they don't they get rekt by the European coalition.
