Alright /k/omrades, I have a question.
I am going to rust blue a receiver, I need distilled water for this. Does typical battery top up water, billed as de-ionised, work for this? It must be distilled and pure.

>rust blue
pay someone to do it faggot

That's no fun. I'm already going to pay someone to re-barrel it.

You could have very easily Googled whether DI water and distilled are the same or similar
>not just using a nitride finish or something that can actually resist corrosion better than poop tier home bluing

That HL is way overkill for a handgun light. I love my TLR-1 vanilla edition on my G34 and HL on my rifle.

Just buy it in bottles at the store. Walmart and every grocery store carry distilled water.

De-ionized is not the same thing and can be less pure. It might work fine, but distillered water isn't expensive.

You can use normal water, I do it all the time, it may just take a little longer though.

You don't know shit, so shut yer piehole.
Rust bluing is different than cold bluing. Rust bluing takes a while and ends up with an awesome layered finish that is superior to cold bluing or factory hot bluing. Done well, it wears better than nitride and is easily on par with the best finishes money can buy.
Just get distilled water from the grocery store, OP. You'll need plenty, at least a couple of gallons. Yes, usually battery top-up water is distilled. Minor differences in pH aren't a big problem, but if the water you use is hard (alkaline/high calcium), it's a definite no-no.
You using Pilkington's, Laurel Mountain, or something else? I had an 1860 Colt replica turn out beautiful and tough doing rust blue, I used a peroxide/vinegar/salt formula so it took more sessions. Whichever method you use, remember you can get away with being a bit sloppy with the first coat, but you better tighten your tolerances for the following coats. What happens is that the acid in coats 2 and on, if not extremely thin and even, has a tendency to undo the coats below them. Don't wipe over anything twice in one coat, for sure.
Degrease the holy bejeezus out of it before starting and wear gloves once you start - no kidding, a little oil from your hands can botch it and you have to start over.

nig no, DI water is not less pure. There is a reason DI water is used in Semiconductor manufacturing an not Distilled water

Used for what purposes? In a chemistry lab distilled is used for most tasks over deionized.
