Trust me, I was sort of terrified by the final price tag, but then I realized I didn't do too bad.

Had I bought an M&P and gotten the same handguard, I would still be close to $1000. The extra $200 spent got me a fucking great barrel that the M&P does not have.

I built mine from a Rhodie marked STG-58 kit a few years ago.

As it's been said a million times, it's because DSA is the only company still manufacturing them. If you want a more reasonably priced one, look around for a kit build.

Except that isn't a hard and fast rule. My $600 AR has never once had an issue in about 3k rounds, and my friend has 2 AR's, both costing less than a grand which have run reliably for many more rounds than mine. Not saying three examples is much evidence, but your blanket statement is just not the case.
