/k/ reviews the Imperiums weaponry. Also can /k/ write manual of arms/doctrine of use. Space Marines are excluded. Only weapons a normal human can access.
>>
well, the lasgun would be a dream of any /k/ommando. The charge packs can hold between 2-3000 shots at a power setting that is lethal to a man. it can be put on a lowersetting for causing burns and such, and can be put on a higher power setting if you want to just burn straight through a man or kill something a bit bigger. Shit is cash.

/k/ is pretty much full of autistic 14 year olds though

Which means it caters well to the average collective mentality of this board, yeah?
>>
>>31050378
Space Marine weaponry is frequently used by the IG often with only minimal alterations.
>>
Did you guys hear what the Rough Riders are issued?
Motherfucking lances. With a shaped charge on top.

I want one just to fuck with my neighbor.
>annoying dog shits in my yard for a decade
>the asshole just shrugs and does nothing to stop it
>Mows the lawn at 6am on a sunday
>practices singing at 1am

>acquire rough rider lance
>acquire bunker
>poke neighbor's house from within my concrete box
>enjoy the yelling

The fluff on how lasguns function varies from source to source. Sometimes they hold thousands of rounds marginally more effective than a flashlight, sometimes they've got ammo capacity closer to what we see in modern firearms.
Sometimes it's actual lasers, sometimes it's some other kind of projectile energy. Sometimes they burn a lot, sometimes they actually explode the air around it.

There's not enough hard canon source on exactly how lasguns function that will allow a proper discussion on their viability IRL.
>>
>>31050866
The theory on things like that is that the bolt guns are actually down-sized, although /k/ suggests a gyrojet weapon would be almost entirely without recoil, so even the Space Marine's .75-caliber Bolters would not rip a mortal user's arm off.

I wouldn't want to carry one, though, on account of the sheer fucking weight.
>>
>>31051044
That and they use weapons similar to space marine bolters but just mounted on a tripod and used in the heavy machine gun role. The best thing about the IGs is that the Heavy Stubber ie Ma'duece is still standard issue.
>>
>>31051044
The problem is that .75 caliber is slightly larger than 12 gauge; if you're packing enough propellant in the thing to rip off an arm then it'd need to be so massive that it wouldn't be man portable. It makes more sense that humans can't use SM bolters because they're fully automatic, lack stocks, lack sights, and the ergonomics are built around an 8 foot tall guy wearing a gauntlet.

>>31051115
The SM heavy bolter and IG heavy bolter are the same gun.
>>
>>31050945
Such is the product of a 30+ year old universe who could never learn how to hire writers that respected the canon. What a lot of people accept as the canon is that most settings will allow 60-80 shots, the only recoil is a slight jolt from air displacement, and it's actually a pretty reliable weapon.

The roleplaying game has their charge depletion rate at between 16 to 40 shots depending on the strength of the lasgun.

The fact they use charge packs is the real reason they're so useful, its like "all our weapons shoot 9mm" logistics. Charge Packs are Charge Packs... are Charge Packs.

Except when special lasers need special ones, and that sorta breaks the logistic train there, but given that Charge Packs may be useful for other things (like powering machinery or vehicles) they're even more ubiquitous than firearms ammunition.

>>31051315

Although the material goes to great lengths to say that the effectiveness of Bolters is because of penetration, anybody critically examining what they DO would tell you that:

1) Its almost identical to firing a 12 Gauge shotgun

2) The real damage is caused by the Explosive Warhead that detonates Inside the target (ie, it cums internally).

3) Even if it doesnt penetrate, which the superior ballistic tips are supposed to help with - it will still explode on the Outside and that helps with penetrating.

TL;DR - Bolters are 12 Gauge rocket propelled grenade launchers. It launches like a low powered shotgun round then accelerates like a gyrojet. Velocity doesnt matter because it explodes on impact.

If you can fire a 12 gauge shotgun that weighs 5 to 8 pounds, and you dont care about the kick, you can use a Bolter.

> Space Marines actually use 25mm bolters not .75 caliber ones... And Imperial Guard heavy bolters use the same ammo as the normal handheld SM bolters... and the SM Heavy Bolters are some nasty shit like 2.5inch.

The only real issue I have with the warhammer 40K weapons are their actual firearms, particularly the basic shit tier Stub Pistol and Stub Rifles.

Specs run wild as to what kind of ammunition and reliability those have.

Impression I got was the Stub Pistol was the equivalent of an unnecessarily heavy Japanese Nambu 8mm.

Yep and then there's the subject of the Hotshot lasers and Hellguns that are like imperial guard man-portable lascannons.

Which actually use some kind of "ammunition" in addition to a heavy charge pack.

Though why not everybody would be using them when they're superior even to bolters just because of logistics...
>>
>>31051519
autoguns and stubs exists in numerous iterations. Each planet/system may not use or produce any patters of stub/autogun, while other (possibly more primitive) planets/systems may produce and rely on them extensively. Untold billions, maybe trillions, of people use autoguns, production and design could vary heavily; thus producing an enormous amount of different patters and calibers.
>>
>>31051589
Hellguns use backpack mounted energy sources and are built to withstand the greater energy input and output; they're a different weapon. Hotshot charge packs are designed to fit a standard lasgun and discharge more powerful shots at the cost of increased wear on the weapon and decreased shot capacity.
>>
>>31051589
Logistics, as well as they are probably harder to produce. The lasgun has been in service for over 10000 years, completely replacing the mainstay armament of an army that numbers in LITERALLY unknown trillions would be immensely difficult. Also, the average life expectancy of a guardsman is terribly short. The lasgun already does a fantastic job. Even though the hot shot would be better than your standard lasgun, there'd be no point in going through the trouble to better arm a soldier who may die before even needing to reload his first power pack. Also the life of your average guardsman is worth less than the equipment and arms they carry, and the sense of individual combat effectiveness is almost never utilized due to the sheer number of guardsmen in a single engagement. Even though the lasgun is not as powerful as other small arms, it is used en masse to an extremely destructive effect.
>>
Who /autogun/ here?
>>
Lasgun doctrine?
There's next-to-zero moving parts, negligible recoil, you can replenish your ammunition by leaving empty charge packs in the sun for a few hours or tossing it in a fire, so...
Engage enemy from maximum effective range of your weapon, or preferably from the maximum effective range of the nearest artillery battery. Volume of fire trumps precision of fire. When in doubt, aim low; I imagine having the ground explode underneath them would screw up the enemy's aim.
