Alright OP, time for the truth about 80% of the "militias" from someone who infiltrated a couple just out of curiosity.

So the first group was the Illinois Sons of Liberty which is more or less just a social group and not everyone was crazy. They always wanted people to bring food, money donations, weapon donations etc. You get the picture. It was kind of like a redneck hangout hub for wannabes who either couldn't be in the military. From what I understand they did a massive purge which is where this next part comes in.

The fringe groups of the militias are fucking CRAZY. The other group was the "Midwest Patriot Militia" which consists of multiple felons with histories of shit like attempted murder, prostitution and various drug related offenses.

The leader is a 450 lb 6'4" evangelical pastor of a non-denomination apocalyptic church. He doesn't take care of his teeth so they look like little brown toothpicks from rot. The other people there when I was observing one was a convicted rapist married to a literal retard pissed the state took their kids. One is the physical embodiment of /pol/ with the Hitler shit. At least 6 others are all end-time crazies who believe anything the leader tells them.

According to the leader the earth is 6k years old, science is the devil and cities must be burnt and all people but "true believers" need to be systematically executed or assimilated.

Getting long-winded here but the moral of the story is the hangout groups are pretty harmless but the other 20% are fucking crazy and just as volatile as muzzies. Avoid at all costs.

I also second these Op. First off you want a group of people that you trust and know very well, best way for this is to just start off with a close nit group of friends and do some innawoods shit with guns, if you want to expand, just make sure everyone that is brought in can be vouch by a couple of the others in the group, but be chill about it. Never refer to yourselves as a militia, just as a group of friends that like to go on camping trips and hunting together.

Honestly, in my opinion, in any large up raising that'll never happen, it's better to be in small decentralized units/cells, that's on friendly terms with other like groups, but be make sure you know these other groups well.
