thread dedicated to creature comforts in military vehicles you wouldn't expect

eg:

-bathrooms/toilets
-galleys/kitchens
-recreational features

I'll start. Did you know some British tanks and vehicles have a boiling vessel to make tea?
>>
>>31039963
I don't care about tea but the Brits did a good job with Brexit. Pharisees and globalists pls go.

Missing the point - we're not supposed to care right now. This is /k/ and we're supposed to be talking about cool military stuff. Like guns. An tanks. And shitposting about said things.
>>
What the fuck is going on today? Every fucking thread has devolved into /pol/ arguing with anti-/pol/ and killing the whole thread

So say you have an infantry carrier that is sealable vs NBC. How the hell do you put a shitter in the damn thing? But if you don't, how do you stay buttoned up for any length of time?
>>
>>31040355
I've heard there are crude toilets in some variants of the BMP...not sure if that's also an NBC protected one, though.

A desperate attempt to save a thread, but as far as I know the Brits aren't the only ones with a kettle in their tanks, though they were the first

Seems a pretty sensible, easy addition. Would be strange if it was just the brits.

Aussie Bushmaster has a pretty effective Air-con even in the Ghan.
Early models also had a water-cooler for the underfloor water storage tank, until it was realised the water was better kept as an extra anti-IED protection, so they were removed so the tank is always full.

Honestly that sounds pretty comfy

It's not an uncommon thing on bombers but the -34 is a bit less...bomber-y.

Strykers have a similar system - a water heater with a spigot that's used to heat water. It's intended as a means of cooking MRE entrées but can be used for coffee or heating water for Ramen, tea, hot chocolate or even for shaving water or enough for a comfortable field bath.

The HVAC system was comfortable beyond what I expected. The driver's seat was specifically designed to become a comfortable place to sleep.

I don't remember how it was done but you could split a pair of headphones and connect an ipod to play music over the coms system (while still being able to communicate). The FBCB2 system was able to have basic, simple games (frogger, centipede, asteroids, etc.) loaded onto it, but if you were caught doing it by anyone who gave a shit (Battalion command fags, no-one else cared), you could get in trouble. The SKL (a device that loads hop sets & encryption into commo equipment) had minesweeper hidden in it.

The FSV (M1131) had a way to set up the crane boom so a hammock could be set up.

The B-FIST (Fire Support variant of the Bradley IFV) had seats in them that were designed to be comfortable for extended periods of time. During AIT, the instructors bragged that it was the "million dollar chair" because the government invested a million dollars to develop it. Not sure how true that is, but it was a damn comfy seat.

ALICE rucksack and MOLLE Rucksack were designed to allow the user to lean back comfortably on them to help soldiers get better sleep.

The Galil has a bottle opening feature.

Those are the ones I can think of right off the top of my head.
>>
The CH-47 has a funnel in the back intended as a urinal. A friend of mine talked an aviation mechanic into giving him an old one, which he convinced a particular asshole to use as a beer bong.
>>
>>31044510
>The Sukhoi SU-34 has a bathroom in it.
I heard that and thought it sounded cool.
But it's not accurate.
The Su-34 has a large jug metal with a handle to piss in.
That's the "bathroom".

It does however have enough space for one pilot to maybe curl up on the floor and nap.
>>
B-2 pilots would bring a lawn chair with them to sleep in while doing missions from whiteman afb in Missouri to Afghanistan.
>>
M113s had a marijuana filtration system.

OK maybe I'm showing my age here, but pull the engine access panels off from the inside with the engine running and all the smoke got sucked into the intake. Combat lock the rear door and lock the hatches and you had the ultimate hotbox.

(for those not familiar with the inside of an M113, the engine compartment was accessible by two large removable panels).

I still very fondly remember my first bushie, probably a lot more than my first girlfriend if I'm honest.
>People would complain its not roomy enough
>Its noisy
>Its slow

Fucks sake, I drove a slow piece of shit Perentie for years, some of them that didn't have a roof, let alone aircon or cold water- then give it a day and you'd probably have to fix the fucker for something or another.

>>31039963

thats a confederate flag patch, not novorossiyan, just feel the autistic need to say it.
>>
>>31045142
none of that was intentional.
The Stryker was the first military vehicle I rode in that had an AC that actually worked.....I think you are full of shit on the water, I dont remember ever seeing that, but we did heat upour MRE's on top of the engine housing, you could prob get water to boil on it.

The STRYKER is a really good vehicle. For its size it is quiet, fast and agile. Lots of good memories of being in one.

>>31046553
It is pretty clever, but for me this raises a pretty clear question. How many utilities could you cram into one gun? How many could you include without just slapping on attachments? How many can you put on before the gun part of the gun becomes secondary?
>>
>>31046916
I dunno, but the Galil opener is there for a reason.

That reason being that conscripts used the feed lips of Uzi mags to open bottles. Which bent them to hell and caused feeding issues.
>>
>>31046953
more like the brass got pissed that they had to spend money on new mags instead of dinners, vacations and a department to make acronyms

There's IRL stuff that blurs the line like that cell phone pistol if it could really make calls. If we're talking fiction then a phaser is as much a weapon as it is a tool.

I could see a Swiss army knife with an integral zip gun being a tipping point. A 3D printing thread weeks ago speculated von Neumann guns: a weapon that could manufacture more weapons. If an assault rifle could host a mechanism which manufactured parts for building another self-replicating rifle, gun control would be pointless. You could literally have one gun and with enough time & raw materials outfit an entire army.
>>
>>31046091
Why are those seats wet?
>>
The reason the British installed kettles in their armour is due to the fact a lot of the vehicles destroyed during WWII had one or more crewman outside of the vehicle during said actions.

And that was because of tea time, so tea inside the tanks.
>>
>>31045704
I wish I had known that back in 06. We used M113s to block our gates in Iraq.

If it says anything my team & I hotboxed a Stryker in Afghanistan.
>>
>>31046064
We had the water heater in the FSV, but I can't speak for the other variants. It's strange to say it now, but I miss my Stryker.
>>
>>31046916
If it says anything, the AK bayonet has a wire cutting function when combined with the sheath. I know it wasn't intended but it also works as an oxygen wrench for medical O2 tanks.
>>
Reminds me of the random snack bars and embarrasing notes about NCO the previous batch of conscripts left us in the stocks of our Canadian bootleg M16s.

Like which ones still lived with their moms.
