Actually spreading out and pulling security like a rational force in a combat zone. Spacing is paramount, and actually watching your sector helps increase the chances of picking up threats before they're on you.

It's not perfect, you likely won't see the launcher by naked eyes or even low power optics, but at least if you space out you won't immediately lose a third of your fighting force.

To me it seemed like they were dispersed behind the wall because of the shade. They were still sitting shoulder to shoulder. Second strike look like they gathered around the victims of the first strike. Those that survived should thank God they rebels didn't use mortars. A singe 82mm shell from a mortar would have killed half of the guys on the first strike and on the second wiped out the entire platoon.
