So I went to my great grandfather's house the other day, a place which was built before WWI, and found his bayonet from Second Balkan war/World War 1. Along with his picture, that's just about all I have left from him. I'd like to restore the bayonet, but I don't want to damage it. Anyone know how I can do this?

Break Free CLP and a fine grit abrasive. For deeper rust like on the scabbard or hilt you can try a steel brush, but that's pretty destructive.

That kind of stuff : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ULUWwnX8fEw

Thanks my dude, I'll give it a go. Do you think using a gritty part of the dish washing sponge would be a less intrusive way to deal with the scabbard?
>>
Maybe look into electrolysis? I've never used it but seen it work wonders on rusty old things
>>
>>31027857
That may actually be a good idea. I just have to figure where to find someone who does that. Or maybe I can jerry rig something at home and give it a go.

That sort of abrasive is what you should use anyway (just without the spongy part). Sandpaper is pretty much out of the question.

It's more for stuff that's been in the ground for a long time with deep rust, and you need to coat it too.

green side of a sponge and fundamentals of masturbation. grease it and ask someone else how you unfuck the handle
>>
>>31027956
Unfucking the handle is my biggest concern. Have 0 ideas how to get that done. The blade itself isn't that bad at all since the thing was in the scabbard for all those years. If I fuck up the scabbard, no big deal really since it looks too far gone. However, the handle I need to save no matter what.

Chems usually. If the handle is blued, gonna need to go at it with oil and a toothbrush. If not, naval jelly and a tooth brush.

electrolysis works wonders. Seriously.
