The British military recently upgraded it's soldiers personal kit (pic related) How do you think other nationas kit compares?

>>
I like the new helmet design
>>
>>31024599
It doesn't seem very A E S T H E T I C but it looks practical at least. I would have gone with a few subdued colours, but obviously full camo is a much better way to not get shot.

They ought to get the rifles replaced, though. SA80 is a piece of crap.
>>
>>31024608
It looks very similar to the helmet used by the U.S airborne but I'd say it has a much more streamlined and destructively British look to it.
>>
>>31024599
how does the glasses weigh 0,5kg
>>
Looks even more US Army-like with the new helmet, except that the uniform cut isn't fucking ACU-tier hideous.
>>
>>31024620
What a stupid comment
>>
>>31024599

I heard that they are going to be replacing osprey because it was too heavy.

>>31024620
>They ought to get the rifles replaced, though. SA80 is a piece of crap.

Memes never end.

>Continued testing of the L85A2 in adverse conditions demonstrates its reliability over contemporary rifles, including the M16. Although it is heavier than most conventional and more modern bullpup rifles, its full-length barrel gives higher muzzle velocities and better terminal performance than both the M4 and the M16. Rounds from an M4 will only reliably fragment out to 50–100 metres, while the L85A2 and M16 allowed fragmentation out to 150–200 metres, and the L86A2 has an even longer fragmentation range.
>>
>>31024599
having actually used it, it's complete utter shit

Some guy on the youtube comments also said that it's shit. And again, the helmet is literally the only "good" bit.

Not to mention, it looks fucking retarded, clunky, and it's uncomfortable to wear. It's like the MoD only made this to look more "future" and make a pollitical statement to say that "yeah we look after our troops."

Osprey is so much better.
>>
New helmet looks great

The A1 was shit but the A2 is pretty good. It's quite out dated now and pretty heavy, theyre looking to replace it by 2020. The Royal marines from 43 commando were issued with the C8 Colt Carbine last year to protect Britain's Nuclear weapon sites.
>>
>>31024643

What? The MOD is supposed to be starting replacement trials by 2020, I didn't mean that they were literally looking to fully replace it by then.

this setup is still to heavy. its not because there aren't lighter alternatives. it's because of the limited budget and the militarie's low priority regarding bodily wellbeing.

It's because it has to not fall apart as soon as you look at it funny.

Any radical benefit from having a helmet that ways 0.5kgs will be outweighed when it falls apart after one day of use, not that you'd notice the savings under your 50kgs of kit

i talk about things like titanium or cuben and other topnotch materials. but like in the past today's infantry serves still as meatshield / mule.

The material is used in yachting, performance sailing, windsurfing, inflatables, airship hulls, medical applications. its perfect for backpacks, packs, tarps, ponchos etc. but it costs at least twice as much as cordura nylon.

They should have saved the money and just gotten new helmet and plate carrier. Use Osprey if you think you need massive protection and then a good MOLLE plate carrier for everything else.

No one needs to be issued a shitty daysack and shitty webbing since everyone who isn't a remf/commonwealth has their own motherlode/talon/blackhawk and conventional webbing and/or molle battle belt, and everyone who is a remf/commonwealth can get by with the issued MTP daysack, the Northern Ire daysack and PLCE webbing since they don't use it or just don't care.

Not going to lie, with the spine support and the modularity sell they make on that video I was pretty hype, ten seconds later I see anyone that has used it saying it's shit save for certain parts. While I know people are generally inclined to just get rid of what they don't want and replace it with their own stuff kit wise, I'm just kind of stuck wondering how they managed to fuck up so badly with the development of new standardized gear and why nobody made a point of acknowledging how shit it is.

Everyone is still deploying with Osprey, seems like Virtus is only being trotted out for multinational exercises where we want to show off. People are getting the helmets through which look quite good, but also like they have lots of breakable bits on them.

For fucks sake though just give us a plate carrier.
>>
>>31026227

The Virtus STV is a plate carrier at Tier 1 protection level.
But I'm betting nobody will ever be told to scale down to Tier 1 on operations. Will always be at Tier 3

Had a go in this shit the other day, set up as a plate carrier the armour is lighter than osprey but isn't as comfy, and its a pain in the dick to get it on in the dark

The spine system is a fucking joke, I went prone with everything connected and it took me about five minutes to struggle back to my feet

New helmet is comfy though, and the webbing is at least better than PLC, but still not as good as custom stuff

New Bergan and daysack are literally Hitler
>>
>>31027760
Found out you can use the spine as a vehicle jack, and if you get a squaddie to sit on it, and jack up the height, then if the squaddie stands up it flies 12 foot in the air

Only remftards actually use that cummerbund and side plates on osprey anyway.

Mind you the only time i ever worse side plates and i took an IED to the side, the plates fractured under the force, spalled and shit.

I would have been better off not wearing it. Already got shouted at 80% of the time for not wearing a lid.

I can't see despite being IC i see oh the see.

First time we ever used one we hovered it a little where it just span round in circles.

We sorted out the trim and tried to send it over a compound.

it went up and up and up until we lost it on tracker... it ascended to heaven to join allah

We bought out another and did the same, a gust of wind took this one annd we ha to drive after it and picked it up 2 miles from where we started.

3 weeks later we were on foot patrol in a village 15 miles away. Found a kid playing with it.

Asked him and his old man where they found it, It quote "was a gift from allah" we asked him what he meant and he said "it fell fom the sky hitting his son on the head so hard it gave him a bump.

We looked towards the sky like wah, like a bunch of tossers
