Galaxy class starships are a meme. They took 10 years and 14 trillion credits to develop and they can't even outperform the ship they were meant to replace. A Constitution class can run circles around one at sub-light speed, which is where most ship to ship combat happens anyway. They could've just refit the old ships and they would've been faster, stronger, and cheaper than the Galaxy class memeship.

The Galaxy class didn't replace the Constitution class. It replaced the Ambassador class.

Given that Starfleet continued to use the Excelsior class (the Ambassador's predecessor) well into the late 24th-century, and a significantly upgraded one went head-to-head with the Defiant, it's pretty clear that the Galaxy class was a huge piece of shit, though.

I mean one got taken out by a beat-up shitty Klingon bird of prey and then another got taken out when a Jem'hadar fighter kamikazed it. The Galaxy class was just a giant cruise ship with some laboratories and a few torpedo tubes strapped to it.
