So my buddy's getting married and he wanted to see if it would be doable to give out guns as groomsman gifts. I suggested mosins, but those suckers are like $250 now. Anyone have any suggestions? All i have found are bolt action .22's, single shot shotguns, and a heritage .22 revolver

currently leaning toward the Savage 22LR bolt action which goes for around $120.

Im not sure how many groomsmen there are but im guessing around 6 so I cant really stretch the budget that much.

no high-points plz
>>
uh, so you are going to register them all in one person's name and then give them away?

I think this is a nice idea, but smells like an opportunity for some fuckass to make you guys look like a straw purchaser.

>>
>>31018197

Worst case scenario, just bring the groomsmen to the Gun Store and have background checks done on them.
>>
>>31018212
sounds like loads of fun... maybe you guys could go to the dentist afterwards
>>
>>31018178
SCCY CPX-2s can be found for $200, or a bit less at the right store/right time (MSRP IS $300 ish) You might see if the owner is willing to deal a bit since you're buying several.

Heritage revolver all the way.
It's a nice looking gun, way better than some bolt action- or high points.

You can buy firearms and give them as gifts.

I've gotten quality knives as a groomsman gift and personalized hip flasks + bottle of good liquor as a groosman gift. Both have served me well over the years.

Both are easier to do than guns.

$150 is too little. id pass on the guns and get everyone an engraved knife or something. you can get some nice knives for that price

actually like those ideas;

all the background stuff has me thinking it might be more hassle than its worth; i didn't think about it till now, but most of them, including me, would be flying in from various states, and a couple of them live/work in DC so that's probably a no go. So even if their state was ok and the gifting of guns was kosher, you'd have to fly back with a guns and deal with all that associated bullshit.

I think knifes it is.

so....

any knife recommendations?

>>

You should know that DC has some of the most draconian gun laws in the US, holy shit you fucking idiot.

Pair a knife with a small bottle of good booze (I shouldn't need to tell you this but make sure none are recovering alcoholics but you have no goddamn sense) and maybe put it in a pretty wood box.

Opinels are weird looking in a good way and you could find a sheath to go with it for less than 30 bucks.
>>
>>31018375
>>31018380

Q: When you buy a pistol from an FFL, do you have to fill out ATF form 4473?
A: yes.

what's the big mystery here fellas
>>
>>31018478
>record of purchase
>registration

There isn't anything on that form other than a certification that you bought the gun. You could have sold or lost the gun and the ATF would be none the wiser.
>>
nagant revolvers for everybody
>>
>>31018578
Are you from 2012?

Nagants are 3x the price now. I got mine for Christmas from my dear mother before she passed away, so I'm never getting rid of mine, but in a few years some people could make a tidy profit off of theirs.
>>
>>31018424
looks neat, but they are $200+
>>
>>31018568
so you think you can go buy as many guns as you want and give them away to whomever you want and that is completely legal and none of the serial numbers get tied to the purchaser's name because ethics?

ok
>>
>>31018648
You can absolutely do this you fucking idiot. Don't like it, write your congressman
>>
>>31018648
The form is literally checking that the purchaser is allowed to buy guns, the buyer can then give those to whoever the fuck he wants (so long as they have the same state residency and he knows of no reason they can't legally own guns).
>>
>>31018178
Aren't M1895s still like 100 bucks?

>tfw I have literally been doing this for years
>"dude you're getting into hunting? I have an old Mosin you can have"
>"happy birthday little bro, I got you a Cz52 like you've been eyeballing"

All perfectly legal.
>>
>>31018679

good luck with buying multiples and handing them out like candy bars. It is a felony to give a firearm to someone who can not legally possess one.

Don't call me an idiot you motherfucker. Anyone who rants and raves about how great it is to walk into a store and buy multiple firearms in one day (a flag on your record for starters) and then GIVE THEM ALL AWAY is going to be looked at with suspicion.

When you buy guns, if you buy more than one (from the same FFL dealer) in any given week, the dealer is required to submit a "multiple firearm purchase form" to the ATF. Accumulate a certain amount of forms (nobody knows what amount) in a certain amount of time (nobody knows what timeframe) and you'll get a visit from the JBTs.

yes, and Op stated that several of the recipients were from out of state.

i'll bet he does not know if they are all clear of felonies or domestic abuse misdemeanors. I am sure they are all fine upstanding individuals and all but it happens and then it would be on OP with a felony charge just for trying to be nice.

go ahead and do what you want guys im just saying this is asking for a bunch of trouble. give away ammo or something instead.

sheesh
>>
>>31018719
Wow. How did you even make it through jade helm alive. And fucking obviously you don't hand out guns to random people you fucking idiot. I think the groom might know which one of his groomsmen have felonies. Take your tin foil hat ATF memes and kys. How big of an idiot do you have to be to believe that the atf gives a shot how many guns you buy in a short amount of time. why does giving guns away rustle your jimmies enough for you to spout out blatant nonsense.
>>
>>31018752
this. if you don't think a serial number gets squirreled away with the buyer's name next to it, you are nuts. just because these records can not be used to their fullest extent right now does not mean they do not exist.

bang, gun gets used in a crime.
>cops gee boys who bought it? oh i don't know we are not allowed to save that data. aw, darn it!

those serials are tied to the last purchaser FOREVER until they officially change hands via an FFL or a form transfer.

Benchmade mini onslaught would be cool. You can also get them engraved pretty cheap through a lot of dealers. I know knifeworks does it for free on benchmade knives.
>>
>>31018178
I have a better idea, anon.

Instead of spending ghetto shit gun money, and buying a bunch of ghetto shit pistols, how about you instead spend the same dollar amount, and get engraved knives?

Where $150 gets you a basic bitch hi-point, that same $150 gets you a damn decent gentleman's folder--a knife that is aesthetically in line to commemorate the event--and that will be of genuine utility to the men they will be gifted to?

Would you like suggestions? I can recommend several German, French, or Japanese bladesmiths that make elegant and functional tools.

Here is an example of what I mean.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Tracing_Center

If you bought a new firearm through an FFL, it's registered under your name. Now while you can say you sold it come everything going to shit, your name is still connected with firearm ownership and you might get a knock from local law enforcement.
>>
>>31019472
>>31019285

OP here, just got off the phone with groom.

So I was going to jump on the laguiole knives, but he was insistent on 'guns or nothing'. After some prying all i got was "Do not worry about knives, they are already taken care of" and "I wasn't suppose to know that". Haha i think there are bigger plans that i am not made aware of.

Also, we found the BP pistols listed at cabelas for $150 that some people here linked. Finally, the guy that I thought lived in DC actually moved to Virginia not long ago.

So adding all that up, we went with the Pietta Model 1851 BP pistols.

Thanks for all the help. I'm saving some of those knife links for future reference if I feel my wallet is getting too full.

OP, how many Groomsmen do you have? I have 4 Moist Nugs straight from Molot if yer interested.

But I gave my groomsmen knives and I think they make better gifts. It's the symbolism. Knives are one of our oldest, simplest tools. Nobody should be without a knife. If I was doing it over again, I'd have gone with benchmade mini-grips instead of the fixed blade knives I gave everyone. There's a chance they'd carry those for the rest of their lives. (I pick the mini-grip because it's what I like, you can pick whatever you want, the point is a folder is more useful to most people).

If you really want the MNs, give me a burner email.

>>31020576

Nope, if it's genuinely a gift, like this is, and as long as his buddies aren't felons and fuckwits, it's not a straw purchase.

I work at a gun store, and had this explained and shown where in the law it said it was legit the first time I thought what you thought. "But he's not the intended transferee" In order to give a gift, you must own the gift first. Therefore, he is buying the guns for his own purpose. If his buddies are legally ineligible to own a firearm, he's still in some shit though
>>
>>31020715
my uncle is of the same opinion. He made me and my brother hunting knives, but made us each pay him a quarter. He said giving a knife as a gift severs the relationship.

I think that's horseshit, myself.
>>
>>31018719
False, you're only required to report multiple handgun sales. You can buy 1000 rifles in a week with no extra paperwork
>>

>>
>>31018392
I did Microtech for my wedding.
A buddy did Benchmade Griptilians for his.
Knives are a lot more useful and far more legally feasible for this (especially in this price range)
$150 could get you some great folders that would last for years.
(Benchmade will also laser etch them for you)
