Dad mentioned how in 93 in bosnia, fighting for the serbs, there was the lunatic with a few of his friends that smoked weed a lot and the sniper was on heroin.
It was snowing and they were severely low on alcohol, cigarettes and morale.
Some 'trading caravans' brought them some reboiled alcohol/gasoline mix inside bottles where rakia used to be so it gives a little bit of the good old taste.
The lunatic druggie found some mushrooms on horse shit in the barn they 'confiscated for the glorious serb army purposes' and mixed it with weed.
After consuming everything they had, someone beheaded the horse, the commander shoved straw in his mouth trying to mimic Vito Corleone, the horse corpse was butchered and roasted, my dad went barefoot wearing only whitey tighties and his army hat down the snowy hill trough a forest, because he volunteered to go out and get more drinks and while he does that he can pop around his home (on the other side of the country) to check up on his kids and wife to see if she is whoring around.
He got kindly detained by some lieutenant that promised him to take him home and to the booze cellar if he could just calm down a little and warm himself for a few moments. Probably saving his life

>It was snowing and they were severely low on alcohol, cigarettes and morale
I'm sure the amount of morale was in direct correlation with the amount of alcohol and cigarettes.

"not at war" stories also ok?
>>31014361
Go ahead buddy
/k/ help me out on something, /r/ing a particular story
not a funny war story but one of the most grim and real stories out there
It was about some family during the balkan war (I don't know if it was a screencap or a copy&paste article) sheltering in some house during artillery barrages (i think), also fortifying their house n shit and fending off various crazy shit
I've seen it posted quite a few times, never saved it.

People were exchanging guns, bombs and ammo for normal alcohol.
Enemies sold cigarettes to other enemies.
Dad told me that 2 biggest joys. 2 happiest moments in the entire war was when i was born and the time they captured a croat/muslim village and found the distillery full of plum pulp ready to make rakia.
Also mentioned the time their unit got in a quarrel with a gang of some hothsot local smuggler and raided his gas station and intercepted his truck full of cigarettes from Bulgaria and beat up the Bulgarians.
War sounded fun without the slaughtering and bombing.
