Not mine but I'm doing it for a buddy (the same one who wanted me to work on his bushmaster carbon 15 rifle). At first he wanted a snake skin pattern but decided on solid coyote brown with black accents. The paint used is aervoe coyote brown. I put the base coat and three more coats on the upper and rail last night. Today I'll put the fourth on and let it set for a few days before I re-assemble. I'll post a pic when it's done.

Ok this is all personal preference but for myself I prefer the TA01 reticule over the TA31. But the TA31 still has a solid reticule that is great for engaging a human sized target at distances out to 500 meters.

The Bindon aiming concept work good enough in close in distances with their illuminated reticules.

I need some advice bros. I don't own an ar and want one before the election. I've never built anything before, nor do I have the tools, though I could buy them if needed. So should I try to build from an 80% lower, a striped lower, or just buy a completed rifle? What brand are good? I don't need anything snowflake or Gucci, so long as they work well. Building a lower is a lot simpler than doing an 80%. The only thing I would worry about avoiding is PTAC. And any "slick side" upper. That's no forward assist/no dust cover.

PSA sells good kits for $400-$$450 plus whatever upper you buy.

Depends on the maker. Ballistic Advantage make some nice barrels at a working man price point. Their barrels aren't chrome lined and are arguably more accurate than chrome lined competitors. As long as you clean it once in a while either will be fine and last until you shoot it out.

correct, so then the factor becomes eye relief. the ACOG's 1.5" of eye relief limits your peripheral vision as well as your grip on the rifle in a lot of cases. I don't enjoy shooting with my face that far into the rifle. It causes poor stance where i'm craning my head down to the rifle to get a decent cheek weld. Different strokes, i guess.

the short eye relief is intentional on an ACOG, it allows you to keep the same cheek weld whether using irons or the optic. consistency is king.

I personally think it's fucking snake oil, do you often see excessive wear on your bolt carrier rails? I assume the wear is mostly on the aluminum contact points inside the upper receiver.

As for it staying lubricated better, I doubt being slick helps oil stick to it, but it might have some natural lubricity.

I don't think I would buy one personally, better to have oil stick than a hard coating sliding against your upper receiver rails.

I'm drawn to the mepro tru dot for my first big boy red dot. It's hard to find good info on it though. Thanks, I just installed an ALG trigger I had laying around that wasn't being used. Better than the mil-spec trigger it came with and it'll do until I get a SSA.

Also put the SOPMOD back on and leaving the magpul grip, but I just ordered another B5 grip because it's even comfier. I definitely liked the ACOG on there as soon as I ditched the A2 even if I don't have much real estate for my hands. I'll probably replace the KAC vfg with a tangodown in time too.

No the biggest bitch is if you get a QD socket that isn't non rotational. But most manufacturers make them non rotational these days. I was going to use a QD point on my Vltor stock but its socket is rotational so the sling and get twisted on one end which is a minor pain in the ass.
