What are the best options for NVGs under $1500?
You do know getting nods means you're going to have to buy a fast helmet, a mount and a dbal right? A dbal alone costs up to $1,000.

I don't need gen 3/4. I'm okay with 2nd gen and was wondering what I could pick up for $1500.

Fast helmets are nice, but not necessary when a decent headset with mount included is about 200. Mounts themselves are 40 bucks so I don't even know why you brought it up. Gen2+ can be had for about 800 so OP could have an acceptable setup (minus laser) without breaking 1K. It wont be impressive, but it will work.

That's all I'm looking for right now.
If you didn't mind going for older units you could even dredge up an AN/PVS-5B. The later models had Gen 2+ tubes in them and didn't require a helmet as they strapped to your head. I've bumped into functioning units for 850 before. There are always the later versions of the AN/PVS-7 which are fairly respectable.
Generation 2 isn't exactly the newest and fastest thing out there but it's still serviceable, you just have to work within its limitations.

If you want something that may or may not be a little dangerous but can be found extremely cheap when they appear you could indulge in some Slav-love and track down a 1PN63. They basically crush your head inside a harness but they work well enough and make you look like a Spooky Slav robot.
