I have a beat up West german police M1 carbine I wanna turn into an sbr I could carry in a bag (live in one of the uncucked european states). I'm thinking barrel length between 16" and 12", leaning towards 330mm. How loud would it make it (in comparison to say an m14 and would there be a significant velocity loss?
>>
Your biggest problem will be cycling, shortening the barrel makes the gas pressure change, and can affect the reliability of the weapon, you might just have to get the gas-port reamed if you want to shorten the barrel.

There'd be some velocity loss, worse accuracy (especially if you don't get the muzzle properly recrowned), the gun will be somewhat louder and somewhat brighter, might want to consider a flash-hider.

Also why shorten the barrel anyway? The M1 is already very compact and lightweight.

Thanks for answering

I want to carry it in a sling bag I can make, so the max length would be around IMI X95's length.

Anyways, how loud would it be in comparison to say, a standard length AK in 7,62x39?

What OP seeks to do
>>
>>30992288
It'd be pretty loud, probably a bit louser than that AK, but it'd also be potent

What Euro state? Czech? Get one of those super shorty vz. 58s
>>
>>30992294
A bit longer maybe but we can ballpark it, how loud are these in comparison to a VZ 58 or AK 47, in summary 7,62x39 from a 14,5 barrel? Would putting magnum revolver powder into the carbine fix the cycling problems if any occured?

I mean tunnel rats shortened their carbines in nam, did those have cycling problems?

>>30992301
Wouldn't those be even louder?
Besides I wanted to get a blackhawk in the same caliber., and turn the m1 into a bullpup a-la m14 juggernaut rogue
>>
>>30992328
You're asking for way too much.
It will be loud as fuck.
Dumbass
>>
>>30992352
What am I asking too much?

you should keep it the way it is
>>
>>30992359
Wow thanks. How long is that barrel, 12"? Put a bullpup stock on it and it's what I'm aiming for
>>30992361
I need a PDW.
>>
>>30991695
keep the barrel, replace the stock with a paratrooper model.
>>
>>30992426
That would still make it too long to carry in a sling bag.
>>
>>30992294
Problem with those is that the sights don't work, and they lack a stock.
>>
>>30992604
I would mount a red dot sight, and change the stock for my own mold.

I honestly don't know the process of which tunnel rats shortened their carbines, but I'm betting an armorer reamed the gas-port.

The Israelis had this actual problem when they made the Magal, a Galil scaled down to .30 Carbine, the guns had serious problems cycling because (for whatever reason) they didn't account for gas pressure, and rather than fit the guns with muzzle boosters or reaming the gas ports, to get the guns they wanted, they put them in storage.

Paratrooper stocks fold and look super cool.
>>
>>30992807
I recall that the shortened Vz 58s didn't have the Gas block modded, but the super short D technik pistole have.

How did the people making those enforcer pistols do it? Would using a faster burning powder help?

I actually don't know, multiple companies made them, and I've heard of reliability problems with them (some changed the action on them), could be that many of them are just barely getting by on cycling.

Inland are making a pistol variant of the M1 now, they call it the "Advisor", I figure if you put an Ultimak toprail on it in place of the wooden top cover (to put a red dot on), and then put a folding stock on it or a regular rifle stock, it'd be a handy little gun. Plastic stock might be even lighter too.

If you find it has trouble cycling, ask a gunsmith if he can put a booster on it. What country are you in, by the way?

Cycling shouldn't be a problem with that.
>>
>>30993148
It can be, which is why you thoroughly test the gun with various ammo after it's shortened, to see if it has any issues cycling.
>>
>>30993085
Czech republic. Gunsmiths are plenty here. I guess I'll just have to try.
>>
>>30992832
Paratrooper stock isn't comfy though.
>>
>>30993099
How is that attached? Barrel band or directly to the stock?

Attaches just like the normal wood topcover does IIRC, look at the screws.

Also if you dislike the Paratrooper stock from the M1A1, consider a Choatee folding stock, it's lighter and has a much nicer cheekweld.
There exist MP40 or AKMS style underfolder stocks for the M1 Carbine, but those aren't especially good (nor very good looking on the carbine, if you ask me).
>>
>>30993679
Like I said, I want to make a rougly X95 sized M14 juggernaut rogue styled bullpup
>>
>>30993753
Oh, you're making a bullpup? I don't know of any existing kits on the market, but you can probably do your own stock. A Muzzelite kit for like a Mini-14 or Marlin Camp could probably be converted but they're fucking atrocious kits, so I recommend against that.

Also you could make a much lighter stock than the juggernaut, unless you want lots of rails and metal to make it heavy.
>>
>>30993828
Probably, but the brass deflector would probably end up similar.
>>
>>30993828
Anyways, what would you advise to make the stock out of? Are there any reactoplastics I could mold at home?
>>
>>30993588
Based on you're personal experience handling and shooting the gun and not second or third hand accounts right?
Right?

You remember the purpose of the gun build in the OP Right?

I'm thinking maybe an aluminum skeleton with a molded plastic case over it to form the stock and pistol-grip, along with a trigger linkage and shit, maybe linkage for the safety and magazine release if you want.

Honestly, this is something you should talk out with a skilled gunsmith, someone who has experience doing custom builds, we're all just ballparking here.
>>
>>30995262
No, that's an interesting idea, thanks!
And that's a cute picture.
