What I never understood is where would the ammo come from to run any of these, since its noticably more difficult (but still possible) to 'do it yourself' and somehow make brass casings, smokeless powder etc.

However I am guessing that ammo would be much easier and more prevalent to smuggle which would counteract that.

You can get blanks quite easily even in nogunz countries. You might be able to modify them into live rounds or at least take components from it such as the powder/primer etc.

sometimes i glue .22cal pellets on to .22 nailgun blanks for shits and giggles. Theres a few videos on you tube where people do similar. even still if you take regular matches and powder it. then scrape the red phosphorus off the box and mix the two you can make a primer. Philippines use matches as well as previous mixture for a makeshift musket to hunt monkeys.

Just fyi in most Euro countries you really can buy sten Magazine without registation. With some basic Tools you can crank out a sten in 4-6 months if you work in the evening a bit.
