6.8 seems right in between normal and special snowflake. Not special snowflake enough that it requires effort to get ammo, but not as common as 5.56/300BLK/7.62/.308

Interesting that supersonic .300 BLK and 6.8 are very comparable ballistically but the Special has a better ballistic coeffcient and would be inherently more accurate. 6.5 of course further exacerabting that, but yknow. And no shit .300 subs are good for suppression, but a 230 gr. rounds at ~950 fps is essentially a .45 ACP and thats pretty cold imo for a full-sized rifle.

Both similar in the fact that one uses a larger projectile out of a smaller case, and one uses a larger case with a smaller projectile than 300.

I wouldn't suppress a 6.8 because the commercial loads I can find are all lighter supersonic cartridges, but not saying you cant. I don't have the time to dedicate to reloading, nor the patience.

300blk suppressed is a thing to behold though, I understand why people are flocking to that setup.

I don't do suppression. I can't file a Form 4 anyway and it isn't worth my time but I get it, I do. The beauty of .300 BLK is the same bolt and magazine and turning your rifle into a semi-auto .30-30 in seconds.

6.8 SPC II and 6.5 Grendel are objectively better in performance though for most applications.

I disagree at 6.8 being in any way, shape, or form better than 5.56.
-effective max range between any available 6.8SPC load and any of the 70+gr softpoint or match 5.56 loads is negligible, and the "best" 6.8SPC load (120gr SST) falls nearly 200 yards short of the 77gr TMK Black Hills load.

-6.8SPC out of a short barrel is not a significant improvement (</= 5% ME) until you get under 10", in which case it's significantly inferior to .300blk due to mass. -proprietary mags with lower capacity for slightly (well, negligibly, they still fit in every AR mag pouch I've tried) larger sizes
-proprietary bolt
-significantly heavier recoil and less muzzle pressure so less (percentage based) effectiveness from brakes

Pretty much the only reason 6.8 even still exists is the number of areas in the US that prohibit .22cal rifles for deer hunting.

2.5" 10-shot groups is the best I've seen at 500m from an AR, but it was an ultra-heavy-barreled target gun the guy was single-loading 80gr VLD's in. There is no difference in potential mechanical accuracy between an AR and any boltgun that you can imagine, it just takes more effort to get one to that level of accuracy. The relatively heavy triggers in even the best AR's (3lb minimum) make them harder to shoot, but if it's clamped in a machine rest with a pneumatic trigger pulling switch they are no less accurate all else being equal.

I've seen people print 8" 10-shot groups at 600m with iron sights and 20" gov't-profile barrels during Service Rifle competitions.

The single smallest group I have ever personally witnessed was a guy shooting an AR, he shot a .201" CTC 10-shot group at 100 yards. And that was mag-fed.

Both the Arisaka and the Haley are better than the BCM. I haven't even seen the Noveske yet so I dunno.

The mount that the SF comes with has a fuckhuge thumbscrew, and my M300's mount likes to work loose no matter how hard I torque it down or how much loctite I use. It will be replaced shortly.

I was talking about secondary calibers but I would rather take a 6.8 SPC for hunting anything larger than a coyote. 5.56 slows down and loses a lot of potential at further ranges and on flesh if you're sending a slower round it might as well be bigger to make up for it.
