If John Browning is the undeniable GOAT of gun design (he is), who is the second greatest gun designer of all time?
>>
>>30974827
Charles HiPoint
>>
>>30974827
Paul Mauser
>>
>>30974827
My vote would be either John Pedersen or John Paris Lee.
>>
>>30974841
what did he design besides the mauser rifle?
>>
Amadeo Rossi is a close 2econd
>>
>>30974901
That's all that matters. That one rifle was a genius inspiration
>>
>>30974827
Eugene Stoner
>>
>>30974901
Simultaneous invention of the stripper clip.
>>30975051
Hardly. Based on pre-existing work and refined by his team of engineers. Mauser was primarily a marketing guru.
>>
>>30974827
His protege, Dieudonne Saive.
>inb4 "FAL fag detected"
But you are right to think that.
>>
>>30974827
Ferdinand Mannlicher

Did a lot of work with straight pull and semi-auto rifles in the late 19th century. He also invented the en bloc clip. Most of his work with semi-autos was about 50 years ahead of its time.

>>
Credit where credit is due, it's probably some unnamed chink from the 10th century.
>>
Melvin Johnson,

Designed his own rifle which almost one U.S trials

Designed his own LMG which was used by the First Special Service Force

His bolt was used in the entire AR series and is still used today,

Very innovative firearms designer
>>
I'm going to say the obvious, Mikhail Kalashnikov, and after him, Eugene Stoner.
>>
>>30975341
I'd guess it was a gradual kind of thing.

>these fireworks are more scary if we aim them at people
>it's easier to aim them at people if we have a tube to guide it
>this works better with a thicker, airtight tube
>why don't we use this new powder mix that burns faster

And before you know it, you're laying waste to enemy cities with cannons.
>>
>>30974827
Samuel Colt, of course. A little before Browning's time, yeah, and ALL of Colt's major designs revolved around the rotating cylinder concept, but there were a significant number of models that Colt designed.

Granted, Browning was head and shoulders above Colt in sheer versatility. Semiauto pistol? Got it. Lever action rifle? Got it. Different lever action rifle? Got it. Lever action shotgun? I'm telling you, Winchester, that's gonna be a bad idea, but I got that anyway. Pump action shotgun? Fucking told you so, got it. Semiauto shotgun? Got it. Machine gun? You wanna run and gun or have a gun crew, or have a gun crew and shoot down tanks and planes 'cause motherfucker, I got it all!

But all he did was convert his copycat Garand to match Soviet trials requirements.

I also give honorable mention to George Luger, Fedor Tokarev, Benjamin Henry, and the lesser known Roy Melcher.

Neither of those 2 had very unique designs, just took previous guns and modified them to their liking. At least Stoner was a pionerr in the use of alloys and plastics, but Kalashnikov realy didnt do shit.

how do i design guns??
>>
>>30974827
Aimo Lahti, a self-educated drunkard whose designs were pretty solid (some say too solid, as in they were heavy)
>>
>>30975070
This guy gets it
>>
>>30974827
Hugo Schmeisser.

Fucking everything that isn't based on Brownings stuff is based on his.

Third place goes to fedor tokerev.
>>
>>30982708
Damn, forgot about this guy.
>>
>>30982708

>>
>>30974827
>Famed gun designer John Moses Browning told Maj. Gen. Julian S. Hatcher of U.S. Army Ordnance that Pedersen "was the greatest gun designer in the world".
>>
>>30975380
Based on "his" one design that he claimed was 100% original despite having a cloned Remington safety, rotating Garand bolt and similar gas system, and of course Hugo Schmeisser giving him the idea to put it all together, hell even Kalashnikov credited Schmeisser (Hugo or his brother or dad or whoever) with figuring out the stamped metal fabrication. Held German parents I believe.

How many other weapons did Kalashnikov design? None, because he was a tank driving poster boy, even the prototypes you have to question simply because it comes from profession liars. I guess you can be one of those guys that lumps the RPK and shit as separate weapon designs thereby declaring your false prophet a genius.
>>
>>30974866
Pederson was Browning's named successor OF Arms design.
>>
>>30983912
PK machinegun was also Kalashnikov's design

Andrew Burgess.
