My Mosin is a pre-war hex. Since I got mine from Molot, it was in pretty great shape. I only had to disassemble and clean the bolt to get it running smoothly.

Everything on it matches except the bolt, which is probably why the bolt was less clean than the rest of the rifle.

It's a 7.62x39 chinese Sks. Mag is not stock, but it loads from strippers and feeds fine. No idea what kind of mag it is.

I don't even know what that AK is now. It obviously started life as an IO, but none of the parts match. It looks like someone pulled all the rivets and redid them. The trunnion is also different, the bolt looks like someone tried to machine a larger bolt down, and the recoil spring is all kinds of nigger rigged. Front sight post, stock, and the foregrip also are not stock. Got it from some old man at a gunshow who was ranting about the NSA for $400. Shoots well, though. 1.5k rounds of cheapo steel with no failures so far.

as for cleaning, I usually clean within a day of shooting any of my guns, or after three months of not shooting them.

The Luger is a 7.65 that my great grandfather got from bartering for his dental work on some guy. I think it's a 1912-1916 or so. I may do that with the 500 at some point. I've got a moderate scratch on the cylinder that kind of sucks, but oh well.

Pic is a close up of the k98 is my family picture. My grandfather also bartered for it, but it was less of a negotiation and more of a he picked it up off a dead german in ww2 kind of thing. Those scratches on the wood are kill marks, I'm told.

THANK YOU. HP was a present for Christmas, and the Colt was actually pristine. Nobody believes me but I got it for $430 and it was literally unfired. No scorching rings on the cylinder.

I think that yellow was factory grease, most of it came off with some oil and a rag.

Thank you, also! I saved it from a pawn shop for $220. Before and after refinishing the stock with Danish oil. I really wanna get a flush magazine extension for the 30 inch bbl, but the only one I can find is a Nordic Components, but it's matte.

I guess the more practical choice is buy another bbl to cut down to 18 in and get a +1 extension.

I think the 18" would make much more sense. I personally love the way it looks right now. Great job on the wood refinish by the way. How hard was sanding and whatnot in the little crevices of that forend? I've got a Winchester Model 12 that I might take a crack at some time.

WELL, the original coat was a shellac or lacquer of some kind that I had to put some considerable force into to remove. The forend was tricky at first because I didn't have a file small enough to get into the grooves, but in the end I left them alone and now I think it looks great with the darker grooves.

I kick myself for not getting decent before pics but this actually has an ugly oil stain from a recoil pad that was probably on it for the last 40 years. By the way, it's a '51.

Mauser = Enfield > Mosin. The Mausers almost universally have crap sights IMO; the triangle A front post and V notch rear aren't great for consistent or rapid sight alignment (only Swedes, and post-WW2 Danes and Norwegian did the sights right). SMLE tangent-leaf sights are better for this being squared-off, and the No.4 Enfield has the great micrometer aperture rear sight. The M91 Mosin's rear sights are as bad as the Mausers, but the M91/30 and later sights are as good as the SMLE's. The Finnish m28-30 and m/39 have the excellent Mansner sight but still; dat No.4 peep tho.

I like the Mauser's action best; it is strong, simple, and easiest to maintain. People say the Lee's rear-locking lugs are better in dirty environments because you can clean out the lug spaces easier, but if you get that much shit in either rifle you're gonna jam it up (and J. P. Lee incorporated rear AND front locking lugs in his final rifle design, so he obviously recognized the benefits). The Mosin's bolt is strong but overly complicated, but then it basically ceased development in 1890 and the Mauser 98 has another 6 years of improvements incorporated.

Again, interpretation. There's a lot of ifs and buts. There's provisions for exemptions for sportshooting etc. My country already restricts pistol capacity to 20 rounds, unless you have a legal reason to use more (such as shooting IPSC).
