Why don't you use a knife along with your home defense weapon?

>House has very close quarters
>An intruder can grab your arms as you hold out your gun and go around a corner
>Knife is a formidable backup
>>
>>30973123
39-2? How is it?
>>
>>30973123
Flashlight, handgun. Hands are full. I have a knife on my belt. Everybody get fucked in the ass in a knife fight though. Knife is a last ditch scenario. Well better then bricks and photo frames...but you get the picture.
>>
>>30973123
why would you put yourself somewhere that an intruder can reach you?
>>
>>30973123
this is out of the question, i'm usually holding pizza and chocolate milk and things like that when i walk blindly around corners in my house
>>

I exclusively use a blade. Guns for show, knives for a pro
>>
>>30973123
>grab your arms as you go around the corner.

Hold the weapon close to your body. Its a common close quarters maneuver.
>>
>>30973351
Pray you never have to deal with a b&e.
>>
>>30973338
To be fair the photo is pretty blurry
>>
>>30973373

I have multiple times. Most B&E-ers turn around quick when they see a large man with a blade coming at them.
>>
>>30973123
Because I have an axe.

Most times when I drive I don't get in an accident either. Doesn't mean I don't wear a seatbelt or get my airbags checked. Well Im glad you've had luck.

>Everybody get fucked in the ass in a knife fight though.
Why do people always say this?

You're carrying a gun, but you're not going in with the mindset that you're going to get fucked up in a gunfight.

Knives aren't ideal, but you don't have to be so defeatist about it.
>>
>>30973386
So you're a big guy?
>>
>>30973492
That looks cool as shit, but how can it be practical in a fight?

Do you have a specific fighting style or is just swing motherfucker swing?

>>
>>30973514
If you shoot someone, the odds of them fighting back afterwards are much lower than if you had stabbed them.
>>
>>30973653
That's why you stab them again. Or stab them in an important place. Or cut a motherfucker so it hurts.

Because if a intruder is close enough to grab your arm, you dont stick it out there.
>>
>>30973672
Ok go get in a knife fight. Record it and send links. I bet you are underage ban anyway. Only a retarded kid thinks a knife fight is easy/like one stab and done.
In the heat of the moment close quarters, a stab wound is not going to put down an adrenaline fueled, and possibly drug fueled, attacker. A gunshot however creates enough trauma that one shot maybe enough.
>>
Implying i dont?
>>
>>30973535
It's a club with a thick blade on one end that tends to be longer than a knife.

How could it NOT be practical?
>>
>>30973991
It will if you stab them in the head, throat, heart, or spine. I'd put money on a gutwound putting someone down quick, too, unless they're geeking on PCP. In which case, you still have four targetable areas.
>>
>>30973514
Everyone assumes that if you're using a knife the opposition will be as well which is rarely the case for a burglary. An intruder most likely isn't looking for a fight, and if they are, they will have a firearm.
>>
>>30974031
My point is that whatever weapon you're wielding does not determine what a hostile is wielding.
>>
>>30973440
With your dumbass analogy you would be getting in accidents several times completely unscathed
>>
>>30974007
What kind of wind up does it need to he effective? Can you do that in a hallway? Your bedroom?

>>30973991
True a gun is much more effective, otherwise knife fighting would still be a big thing. Mist big guys arent too intimidated by a knife or bat or sword. Theyll take it from you and smack you with it. Having a knife is just as accessible as a gun is if they are close enough.

However a knife is a damn fine tool in the right situation. It has its places, but unless you are stronger than the other guy, gives little combat advantages.
>>
>>30973373
b&e? what?
>>
>>30974096
Breaking and entering. A home invasion basically.
>>
>>30973123

How the fuck did he get down the narrow hallway in the face of 61 rounds of 5.56xFuckyou?

Given the above, what the fuck is my knife going to do against a goddamn space marine/Tank, because apparently that's what I am being attacked by.

Fuck you.

Nice pistol.

>>30974158
Just dont let them grab it and turn against you. Or fly into a berserker rage and smash up the living room, causing more damage than just your game console and tv.
>>
>>30973514
Statistically speaking, resisting an attacker with a knife is more likely to result in your harm than complete non-resistance. It truly is a last ditch effort. It's the CPR of self-defense: depressingly low success rate, but you have to try something.

Side note, most everyone on this board knows this, but it bares repeating. The statistically safest way to resist an attacker is with a firearm.

My home defense weapon is a rifle. Should I mount a bayonet?
>>
>>30973123
Knife should hang in sheath from front left aide of waist, either side of chest, or inside/outside of front leg ankle. Ideally you have two knives, one upper body and one ankle. Each position will let you draw with either hand, usually in regular or reverse grip as you like.
Advantage to waist:
>easily draw and stab in clinch
Advantage to chest:
>easily defend from opponent in striking distance, easy access from proper striking guard
Ankle:
>draw from kneeling, draw while grappling on ground.

Which position you go with really depends on which situation you're worried about ending up in. If you're worried the opponent will rush you and go for your gun, or you're breaching tight spaces where you might turn a corner and be face to face with them, left waist is a good idea. If you're going to have enough room to make space, retreat and reset, then chest might be more reliable and easier to defend against the opponent grabbing at it. As I've said you will ideally have a small backup knife on your ankle as well as a main one.
I think, if your primary weapon is a gun, you should keep your knife on your waist offhand side. If you're /nogunz/ I'd go with chest.
This advice for knives also applies for diving, I never dive without an ankle and chest knife.

>when soap unveils his knife collection, gets asked if he's got anything bigger, pulls machete out of jacket
PRO
>>
>>30973514
Yeah there's this funny defeatist attitude about fighting against knives. It's fine when it's to prepare you for probably getting cut, but I think it goes too far towards "you're so fucked don't even bother" sometimes. I've seen a couple of glorious fight videos where one guy gets stabbed out of nowhere, but keeps fighting through it and wins, or at least doesn't lose.
>>
>>30973976
Your arm probably isn't stronger than their entire torso and neck, which is why being able to handoff a guy like pic is a bit reaching. With a step off and pivot to your strong side you can make space though, just like pivoting away in a boxing match.
>>
>>30975814
yeah, because nothing is as interesting as a rifle being made in WWI, WWII, or in between. Be used to kill the enemy swine, then being captured or retired, Traveling the world more then most people ever do then landing in the hands of a gun shop, then being bought buy some schmuck, then being used in self defense to stab a would be assailant.

I like my mosin for self defense, because if i ever have to kill a man, i get to explain how his death correlated to one moment. How a man in Communist Russia worked steel into a functioning rifle for the war effort, then being sent to the front lines to be kill Nazis, then changing hands and being captured by the finns, then being remarked and stuffed into a crate, then being shipped and sold to a gun shop in South Carolina, to land in the hands of a short gun smith, then into the hands of another gun smith and having its wood cut down, after about 20 years it would sit in a closet before his grandson told his friend that his grandfather had a mosin for sale. Then his grandsons friend bought it, shot it, reloaded it, and sat it next to his bed with the bayonet attached in case a situation like this happens.
>>
>>30974027
>will if you stab them in the head
Not necessarily. Example:
https://youtu.be/IGC3N66SU5E
Guy gets stabbed in head from behind, fights back. Later gets stabbed and slashed repeatedly around the head in the clinch. Bleeds a fuckton and seems debilitated by the end but he's still going.
Another example is that one where the shopkeeper gets stabbed right through the top of the head from behind and chases the guy off with the knife sticking out of his skull. Fuck knows how that works.
I don't really believe in a one stab stop anymore, I certainly don't think it can ever be counted on.
>>
>>30975927
You aren't doing a handoff. You are rapidly shoving him away as you draw your pistol so that he is discombobulated and won't reach for your gun. At the same time, you would be mag dumping center mass until his internal organs cannot support life. You are pushing his face/neck and not his chest because the chest is where you are shooting.
>>
>>30974088
If it's a one handed axe like a hatchet, not much wind up at all. Maybe as little as half a meter of distance from blade to target and you'll punch through skin and break bone. Magic of having all the weight on the end.
>>
>>30975997
Fair enough, it's just I'd be surprised if you could make that much space with one arm if he's pushing back into you with his whole body.
