What are some /k/ gifts you've given or recieved? First person who says their wife/gf got them a high end ar15 wins

I bought my buddy an OKC 499 usaf survival knife for his birthday. He's getting into camping and stuff, so i figured I'd get him something thats heavy duty enough to do some light campwork, has some history behind it, and it even had a sharpening stone (which he doesnt have)

Would you have been happy with that?

My brother turned 18 and I got him a S&W SD9VE. In my state he can legally carry it in his car at 18. He loves it so far, and we will be taking it to the range soon.

Thanks, does anyone know if there is any issue with this product? Some people are saying it doesn't have a full tank, but it does, sortof more like a sword where the tang is covered in the handle and peened. Seems about as sturdy as a kabar, and the blade looks to be a similar thickness, while being shorter
>>
>>30959956
wish i could carry, live in canuckistan though

youre an awesome bro for getting that
>>
Dad bought be a nugget for my 17th birthday
They were $99 for the whole package
>>

I have one of these knives, OP. I got it from a Gun and Knife show for ~$35.

They're sturdy knives that can take some abuse. After batoning with mine for a few weeks, I've noticed the handleguard come loose. The "serration" on the backside was designed to cut aircraft aluminum, and is pretty much functionless beyond that role.

For an amateur its a functional knife with classic aesthetic. Pic related

>Some people are saying it doesn't have a full tang

That's sort of a clip vs magazine thing, full tang is any tang that goes all the way through the handle but the internet has allowed a few incorrect people to convince everyone that slab tang is the only full tang.

you can "transport" a gun in your car, there are rules to it i just cant remember them right now... to be safe i keep it with a trigger lock on and in a lockable gun case, unloaded, partly because sometimes cops here dont know the gun laws (most do)

thats in the city though, on private property and on crownland you can carry non restricted guns, which means shotguns, most non semi automatics and many rimfire rifles, along with some long semi automatic guns... so you can still hunt, but not with an ar15 and you cant bring a side arm for bear protection

My mom got me an Enfield for my 16th birthday. It's still in my possession a decade later. Sitting next to my door.

Pretty much exactly what i was thinking when i got it, i wasn't going to get a falkniven... but if he stays into it hell probably eventually get a heavy duty knife and this could be like a backup

Added picture because it is a sexy looking knife

consider all of yourselves quite lucky! i have yet to get a gun as a gift

>>30963043

i thought so, the marines wouldnt be issued kabars for so long if they were so prone to failure... seems like a proven system

personally i prefer hidden tang because it gets so cold in canada that your skin sticks to metal and then you lose a few layers, and you gotta deal with frozen blood on your handle, which really sucks
>>
>>30964170
did you at least give him a handy?
>>
>>30964215

Older ka bars have a more beefy tang, the ones these days are a lil shitty.

Bk series is great, i am an ontario man though, function and practicality over looks and finish (which wears away after use), also the bk15 is twice the price of the knife i bought him, and more expensive then nugget where i live

He was 84 years old. I didnt want to give him a heart attack.

USAF Survival knives are garbage and I advise all air crew to get something else.

i have used mine for 15 years, been through every camping, hiking and hunting trip since then. ive also bought a new one. never needed a more expensive knife. my brother in law is an air specalist in the CAF and uses one. not garbage.
>>
>>30965100
I've put these knives through extremely hard use. Both deployed and in "survival" situations and I can tell you first hand they break often and bend easily.

The sample size of bolt knives I've seen is larger than what you dealt with. I understand it's worked for you. But understand where I'm coming from.
>>
>>30965131
ive had to use mine in a survival situation, i was lost for a week in the mountains in BC on a hunting trip gone bad, worked fine tthen. love the softer steel, so the little sharpening stone actually sharpens it half decent. this isnt saying i havemt used any other knives, ive used kabars, bark river, condor, BK, esee. and ill stick with this. i have hammered on it and pryed with it. i understand where you're coming from but saying they're shit isnt true, they lack todays standard of "quality" but like i said it has worked for pilots for many years.
>>
>>30965131
ive even lend it to friends (like currently its with a friend bear hunting) and have skinned countless animals with it, the soft steel is excellent for easy touch ups.
>>
>>30959807
i gave my wehraboo history buff friend a replica kar98k bayonet, he loved it.
