Also anyone hear anything about firing 40 s&w out of a 10mm? Here it just requires more cleaning due to a larger gap between the rifling.

ehh, that would imply that they're all safe to do that. theres not exactly much variable to play with, the barrels have to have the same spacing to accommodate a round. Theres always going to be that 3mm gap between .40 and 10mm.

You can sometimes get away with this in Glocks and 3rd gen S&W's in 10mm, because they have fairly strong extractors. Note that it'll be headspacing on the extractor if you use .40 in a 10mm, so there is some risk. Make sure to bring a cleaning rod long enough to push out a stuck case.
Also, you might need a lighter recoil spring for it to cycle reliably.
If it's not a Glock or S&W, I'd advise against it.
