Special Resurrection-edition

Get in here Outlanders! Let's get some discussion/writefaggotry/state shitposting going on!

I've taken the liberty of making a short pastebin explaining the theory and linking the archives

http://pastebin.com/c8exhsjy

It's only been a week since the last thread, so hopefully there's still some interest. Also, this seems like a great setting for a tabletop game, so if there's any interest in that then let me know and I'll see about enlisting some fa/tg/uy assistance.

Here's the map of the most serious Ashfall, does not include the Outer Zone which is more indicative of the still-habitable areas that have frequent ash storms. The areas in the Inner Zone and beyond are constantly in Ash cover, the Sun being a foreign concept to the hardy Ashlanders who dwell there.

Will be posting more images until the thread picks up.

Hopefully ColoradoBro shows up at some point, he had some incredibly interesting writefaggotry going on for this area, and neat explanations for why it was still habitable despite being innaZone (mainly due to elevation and mountains I believe)

For that matter I hope MapAnon resurfaces, we've had some serious changes that need to be reflected and he seemed to have a knack for it.

One of the major changes needed for the map is the addition of the Storm. Myself and a few other anons (myself being the creator of the Confederacy, another anon who came up with pic related, the Gulf Republic, and an anon from GA) were growing concerned that the Southeast, being spared from the Ash, were going to be too powerful, which doesn't feed into the "post apocalyptic/STALKER" vibe.

So we came up with something in similar vein to the Rupture
>huge quantities of Ash dumped into the Gulf
>Ash lowering temperatures nationwide creates very strange weather patterns
>a bunch of weather fronts collide in the Gulf, and create a mega storm

I believe it was a storm that was over 400 miles wide, there's a pretty good story about it in one of the prior threads. Anyways, this ravages the East Coast, turning Florida into what is now known as the ForeverGlades. Several coastal cities in GA, SC and NC are wiped off the map. Its good stuff
>>

>huge quantities of Ash dumped into the Gulf
This kills the local fishing industry for sure. Can't wait to hear about the Snapper Wars

I have a friend who is an indie game developer. Maybe he could S.T.A.L.K.E.R-ify this idea here?
>>
>>30958766
What's it like there? All firestorms and unholy horrors like we've been told?
>>30958772
My thoughts exactly. Everything between the NEC and the CC is basically no man's land due to the high concentration of urban centers and impoverished people, who erupted in an orgy of blood and violence when the crippled Fed couldn't provide basic sustenance. Now roving gangs assault the northern border of VA, and the Southern border of the NEC, trying to get what they have.
>>30958804
Sounds like you have an idea friend, write it out for us. Doesn't have to be good particularly, as long as it's interesting. Hell, Arkansas is overrun with Skinwalkers.

Ok will do. I'll make some stories.

When the ash fell on midwestern america .The people of new york feigned concern and continued on their way. The people who were impacted most were the out of state students attending school, many left by plane, train , car and even walked. Some stayed behind knowing the horror of ground zero. As usual the mayor and the governor made their speeches of mourning and duty as "proud" New yorkers to help fellow americans but that's lies.they wouldn't know the horrors that awaits them in coming months

>>30959007
It's an exercise in world building basically, /k/ creating a post apocalyptic world to explore and get some cool innaZone stories out of, with a focus on tactics and weaponry of course. That's why I kind of want to do a PnP RPG out of it, let the experiences develop organically.

The Gulf is fucked bro, check above about the Storm.
>>30959101
I would very much enjoy that, there was talk last time about moving to /tg/ for assistance since they're more experienced at worldbuilding, but it seems a disservice to take it away from /k/. So maybe after its highly established we get some help with a system? Something with a super brutal combat system, of course.

That's why I decided against making a thread there before it gets "finalized". They can make a game from everything, hopefully we can get some fa/tg/uy /k/ommandos to make sure the weapons aren't "RPGish" outside of being used on something like Cryptids and whatnot.
>>30959188
Ah, I forgot about the ADF. What did you have in mind exactly?
>>30959204
That got changed in the last thread by popular vote, Ashlings are deformed, strange creatures that lurk the Deep Zone. Basically an overarching term for "monsters"
>>
>>30959204
Ash wraiths is still a better term for feral Ashlanders though, they don't have to be mutant weirdos that way.
>>
>>30959219
>>30959238

okay, noted because I wrote most of the lore for the deep and dead zones, and a small peice of lore for some of the sane ashlanders in the outer zone
>>
>>30959131
I'd leave the world to /k/ and the non-combat system to /tg/, and combat system in both /tg/ am /k/'s hands. /tg will help make a working, balanced, and not overly complex combat system while /k/'s autismo will keep it on the realistic and gritty side.

>when the ash clouds began to drift eastwards the was uneasiness felt in the 5 boros. Many people began stocking up on food and supplies like a typical winter blizzard. New reporters began interviewing the local mom of 2 or the elderly couple at the home depot. Sheepishly smiling and joking but unwary as usual. >>
>>30959219

I'd had something going along the lines where after the shit settles down and the refugees are either turned back or put to work farming, Upstate NY controls the St. Lawrence River. The Robert-Moses hydroelectric plant provides a shitload of electricity, and it would be a major transportation lifeline heading into the Central States/Great Lakes area. While it's frozen for a good part of the year due to decreased global temperatures, that just makes its use more important during the warmer months.
>>
>>30959397
Yes, the NEC believes itself to be the rightful American inheritor state. So yes, it will expand into upper New York state as soon as the e NEC's government sees fit.

Anyways, I'm not going to say no to fighting over the Eire Canal.

>>
>>30959631
Yes, we are still building the world, that is the point of these threads
>>30959621
>A factory is a factory
That's the more important factor there honestly, having the ability to manufacture.

The CC has developed a semi automatic, wood bodied rifle that's a mix between a M1903 and a Mondragon. Resources being scarce and all (polymer and plastics near impossible to make) called the C-M1, with the M2A1 being a carbine version for paratroops.
>>
>>30959631
And yes, there's plenty of group writing sites, but this is 4chan and we dont want someone erasing all our work and replacing it with pictures of dickbutt do we?
>>
>>30959506
That's a new development.

However, the NEC must grow larger, even if it must do so by force.

>>30959553
Well, I'll preface this by noting that the NEC starts off poorly armed, primarily because of the three southern states. However, a half decade to a decade after the Rupture, the Northeasten Ordinance Board chooses a reproduction of the M1917 Enfield as the nation's first servo rifle, in a effort to standardize. Later that year SIG begins production of a standardized Steyr-Hahn repro, chambered in 9x19mm. It is worth noting that both weapons are cruder than their turn of the century counterparts. This is partially a result of post Rupture industry being a shadow of what existed before, and partially a result of the scavenges materials used to construct the weaponry.

Anyways, as long as your factions weaponry can be reasonably built on a garage or small workshop you should be good to go.

That reminds me. The NEC will probably start churning out an open-bolt 9mm submachine gun a few years after the Ordinance Board formally adopts the M-1917 clone. Mostly because the Minutemen would be lacking for automatic weapons.

I was in the last two threads and i was the one giving out ideas to the arkansas idea and I was main the only one that was preaching the idea about the idea while others out little into it and others had big ideas but didn't come back

I'm not trying to force it down in anyone's throats but I'm just saddened by how no one attempted to expend the story behind Arkansas and how Arkansas and Texas gets into a huge conflicting war like debate between each other and how the super skinwalkers roam Arkansas so the Arkansas people grown to harsh survival almost Vietnam tier survival by metal studs and eating off skinwalkers and due to being secluded and getting no help from outside help for ten years they grown to pure hate and distrust to outsiders while texas needs Arkansas people to help them get rid of skinwalkers because they can't do it without Arkansas people

I know that was a run on sentence but i put my ideas in the last two threads

>tfw I'm out of tears to cry out

>>30960079
shoot. done fucked up. a sten would be nice. but in general for all of us I image that an ultrarugged intermediate/long range gun would be best. As all of us will be fighting with limited people and supplies, I feel that long range engagements would be most safe in the long run. SKS or similar reproduced in your borders maybe as the beginning of production?
>>
>>30960059
The Sten looks crude as fuck, like it could be made in someone's garage. Thus, it's perfect for this setting.

I'm not saying that. I actually kind of like the idea. I'm just saying some of the viewpoints here are very narrow. Why do you have it out for New York? Why the hard on for Texas? What reason on earth would Canadian commies have for triggering a volcano? Seems like paranoia and small midwestern worldviews. Worldbuilding is awesome, but the point is worldbuilding. There's a whole world out there with a vast amount of differing opinions, just saying.

Same as above, and Texas is what started the original idea. Go check out the first thread in the pastebin, it makes more sense that way. It's evolved into what it is now organically.
>Canadian commies triggering volcano

Yes! That's what we need man, more thoughts, opinions, writing! Throw some stuff down, really, what this doesnt need to be is a circle jerk. This is a board-wide project, let's hear what you've got to say.
>>
>>30960188
Well I start off with a band of friends and regional /k/ommandos who go out and take down nasty girl bases in the area converting members to my plans and Devine will at the hands of the /k/ube. we then go out and take more and more incorporating civilians and anyone who wants to help. then we go forth and carve up the borders pictures previously. Utilizing the government buildings of old we establish a capital in Charleston after a brief campaign of removing niggnogs and those who oppose me and them we set up diplomatic relations with the Northeastern Coalition and Carolina Confederacy. I fall into a leadership role and survey my forces as we go into Philadelphia, Baltimore, and the rest of the region.

Huh. Well, I mean, we have Firestorms, Ash that hangs over the country for like decades at least, Skinwalkers, I dont see why there couldnt be some crazy type of metal for hunters to seek. We've actually been looking for something to lure people innaZone besides tech, that sounds pretty promising.

>Date: Unknown (Confirmed to have been recorded at least 20 years post Yellowstone event)
>synopsis: Elderly nomadic male (A) recounts geopolitical situations to a young child (B). Accuracy level is unknown, confirmation of events required. Could just be an old man bullshitting, Major.

>(A) You were too young to remember much about it, I'd imagine. Cant remember a world without the ash. How you managed to make it nine years is beyond me, little one
>(B) I'm not little! I killed my first ashling over two years ago! By the raider clans' rules I'm already a man!
>(A) (chuckling) of course, I'm sorry for any offense, oh mighty warrior. Now, can an old man finish his story? Good
>It was years ago. You know of the current factions yes?
>(B) the Lone Fort State, Mojave Union, some Alaskans traders who passed through... heard rumors about others, farther east, but Papa never went that far, and they don't come around often
>(A) yes, those. Well, before the ash fell, there were man of those factions, all across the world! They fought, formed alliances, traded, like you see today, but on much larger scales, with armies that numbered in the billions!
>You see, we were once the United States of America. I'm sure you've heard the name before, not that it means much today.
>we had a large alliance network, called The Natos. We went around the world like powerful tribes and clans, ruling all beneath our boots, ever present like the ash clouds above your home
>(B) Why didn't The Natos help us when the ash fell??
>(A) Let me finish! You see, we were not the only ones who had power. Many others sought our lands for its resources and to remove us as a threat. We were the only true backbone to The Natos, without us they had not the ammunition or power to fight.

>(A) (laughing) yes, many shared your opinion. In any event, circumstances prevented them from helping us. They'd be lucky if they're around at all, really.
>The faction known as the Russia was a rival to us, as well as China, and many more of the middle eastern lands. You know them as the Dune people now I believe
>(B) I've never heard of these places

>our allies were obviously the Natos, made up of people known as Eu. Don't ask if that's how it is pronounced, I don't know. It also had the Hebrew people and Turkey
>(B) the old holiday food made of pumpkins?
>(A) No, it was a country, and it wasn't made of... never mind. These nations all had their own disagreements you understand, fighting over oil, land, metals. Some of these had been going on for hundreds of years
>When the ash fell, we were left crippled and weak. Our enemies would have tried to use this to their advantage, but the eruption was.... more eventful than anticipated
>It triggered various other eruptions across what was called the Fire Ring, all around the Gray Sea to the west. The Chinese were blinded and hit hard by it, and turned inward to help their people. But with so many of them, it was difficult. They tried expanding into Mongolia, Japan, the Korea, all across their region. Wars started, and eventually they fought with India, which was their undoing. More on that later
>without the United States backing the Natos, our greatest ally, the Hebrews had no support, and were surrounded by enemies. Their Arabic enemies attacked, and the Eus had to try and defend them by themselves, something they were unhappy about, as they had their own troubles.
>Russia had long desired the Balcklands for themselves, a region controlled by the Eus, in the east of their continent. And without the Natos at their full strength, it was ripe for the taking

If Yellowstone does erupt, I can safely say that Chicago (and by extension Cook County) would attempt an evacuation. The only people staying in the early days would be those unable to move, Local Gov. Workers (Firefighters, Police, EMT Paramedics, etc.) and people too broke to move (Namely people on Chicago's South and West sides).
I can easily imagine that with the warnings of any impending eruption, those that can get out while leaving those who cant to die. Us chicagofags are nice to tourists for the shekels you all throw us, but we really give zero fucks when it's just us.
Now, I just joined and havent gone through the previous threads so I don't want to interfere too much with my autism, but believe me when I say that when the ash starts falling, I fully expect Chicago to devolve into urban warfare savage enough to give the ghosts of Stalingrad PTSD.

I'm more focusing on outside the US just before the eruption, not the factions inside. In my head the kid and the old man are both not very informed about the world before or after, so they only know the people they've come into contact with personally.

>(B) I've heard stories...
>(A) hmph. Well, they are the death of man, let me tell you. Luring all those people into the Deep zone, sometimes even the Dead zone, hoping to find bunkers filled with missiles for their factions to use.
>(B) I thought they were after technology, and the rare metals I've heard rumors about
>(A)I'm sure some are. But deep within the earth are weapons. Weapons that could destroy the entire world a hundred times over and still leave room for more. It spreads a sickness wherever they detonate, like ashlung or skin-rot, but much quicker. Much deadlier. They could burn a man alive like firestorms, and blind you just by looking at it.
>(B) And they all used them on eachother??
>(A) Thank heavens, no. Not all, or we wouldn't even be here. No, but they did play a part.
>You see, when China and India went to war, they both had these weapons. It was only a matter of time before they were used. And like the volcanoes in the Fire Ring, when one goes off, more are bound to follow. The first ones used couldn't even be dropped but in pairs, to contain the chain reaction, so they used 2.
>I'm not sure who fired first... I do know that China was hit very hard, as was India. They had massive population density. Perfect targets, really.
>Before long, Iranq had launched them at the Hebrews. They fired back, and that whole region became a mess, radioactive and poisonous.
>When the oil stopped flowing, Russia was the only viable nation with reserves, and so they used their influence to annex many Eus. >Desperate to stop the decline of their power, the Eus lead a series of conflicts against them. But, their forces were ill prepared for such a war without the backing of the United States.
>(B) And so the Russias won?
>(A) I don't know, truthfully. I do know that atom weapons were launched, but from or to whom I cannot say. The Balcklands were left in ruin, as were many Russia and Eu cities.

>the other nations quite simply couldn't be bothered to care. And by the time it had all gotten sorted out, the oil had run dry and the food had been eaten. The ash destroyed crops across the globe, and now that they didn't have foreign nations to fight, they had riots and their own people to contain. It quickly went downhill when their armed forces deserted, desperate to get to their families. I have not heard anything since then. >They've picked up our scent. They're looking. OK, listen closely, i want you to run off that way, and dont turn back, no matter what you hear or see. Understand? Quick reminder to everyone: There has never been a fatality reported from volcanic silicosis. The meme that volcanic ash gets in the lungs and causes you to choke on your own blood, is, in fact, just a meme. Without a gas mask, however, the volcanic ash will eventually cause respiratory irritation and asthma-like conditions.

In short, if you take off that mask, you won't die, but it would be very irritating.

Well, the greenhouses are giving us a little supplemental food, but that's more important during the long Gunnison winters (the ash gives us outstanding crop yields in the summer). We are keeping civilization alive with the Western State University Library, and the factories are still turning out a few Girandoni rifles every week. Black powder production is stable, but most importantly, the Patriarchate has resupplied us with smokeless ammo.

It is a bit worrisome, though, that the Aztecs have been rather quiet. Intelligence indicates that their farms and orchards are doing quite well, and the mass orgies have birthed many future warriors, so we need to deal with this soon. Worse, it seems that they've traded teen brides to the Mormons in exchange for ammunition and weapons.

>during the nights our entire unit had to go into stealth quiet mode, and the outside was the same impossible stillness as a blizzard.

>never saw one and sort of blew it off, but the stories didn't help with reminding ourselves that whatever we could hear slogging through the ash out there was just a deer or something.
>at one point it occurred to us that deer and most everything else would need vegetation to survive (there wasn't any), so we figured that it must be coyotes and bears or maybe even wolves.
>we would go out in the morning and could never tell exactly what the tracks were because they started to fill with ash within minutes, but we could tell that they were mostly small stuff like coyotes and foxes and the occasional one which looked like a bear on two legs.

Ambiguity is great for a setting like this, especially since we're all contributing to the overall universe and what's canon and what's not through stories. Gives a ton of leeway, and that's great.

To further the Morrowind/Bethesda references, we should take a page out of their book (literally, pay particular attention to the books in the games) and use accounts written by in-universe characters to get across facts and ideas. It adds personal bias, racism, ignorance, etc. and really brings a setting to life, while still leaving room for, "Well, he was wrong, flat out," without contradicting the actual author.

>Why is the US left alone?

(not to step on >>30960983's nice story...)

You could say it's part of some larger geological activity, probably mass mantle upwellings. I found this map: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/0d/Supervolcano_World_Map.png There are supervolcanoes near enough to China to cause serious ash-fall, going by the scales usually given for the US. There are also several in Indonesia and South America, one in Central America, and two in Europe.

Additionally, if something is making several disparate volcanoes erupt, it's a safe bet Iceland will be more active too, and one volcano there messed with air travel throughout Europe a few years ago. There isn't really anywhere else like Iceland currently other than some undersea areas AFAIK, but you could have smaller volcanoes going off too, and earthquakes. The Middle East and India are ripe for earthquakes and would get some ash too. Between that, lack of commerce, rebuilding from earthquakes, etc., they could be tied up for a while.

There is still the specter of Russia to account for though. I read up on its geology, which I would not recommend. It has a supervolcano, but it's way off in the east, as is most of the volcanism. It's formed from many many plates, cratons, and microcontinents, but it's very stable for all that. There is talk of one feature being caused by magma upwelling, just like hot spots are (hot spots like Hawaii and possibly/probably Yellowstone itself). You might be able to write it off for similar reasons as India.

If you want some other carnage that's not as relevant on a global scale, Africa is tearing itself apart-- I mean physically, that's why there's a string of lakes and rivers down the southeastern part of it. The area is called the African Rift Valley. This geological activity could maybe possibly cause that to become a more pronounced and open thing, with lava welling out onto the surface en masse, like it does in Iceland.

See >>30962592 there in lies the beauty. The old man could be half right, your report could be official. I could see global natural happenings setting off wars and shit too, so maybe the official report could build on that and throw in some nukes for good measure.

>eventually had to stop night patrols entirely because of these, but during the day it was pretty easy to see where the ash had been disturbed.
>sometimes they would attack us right out while doing recon, but these were usually more or less suicide for whoever was unlucky enough to carry them out, and weren't much more effective than the mines after a while.
>I never went on the patrols because I was the only one who knew much about the instruments beyond what I could teach to the others, but I sometimes went out into the areas which had been declared probably clear to get some readings on radiation from the eruption (like I said, we really had no idea what all had come out of Yellowstone).
>but about 3 months after arriving at the pass, a troop of about 30 of them, which was the biggest example of the raiders working together which we encountered, attacked our camp.
>we outnumbered them, only by a few though, but we had better weapons and training, so we managed to drive them back from our part of the mountain pretty well, at the cost of about 4 of our own, and a large portion of our ammunition.

we need a moonshine bottle and a late 40's dodge police car blacked out as a runner for a patch, with the words Revenooers Rue.
and remember if there is a national guard armory, there are shitloads of firearms in the armory. and there are plenty of new gunworks in the south as well. War Sport is up the road from my house as are like 10 other small AR and Rem 700 clone builders.

NC and SC are dripping with guns. we just hide our shit everywhere. also Bragg, Camp LeJuene and the port of wilmington and THE MOTHERFUCKING CHARLESTON NAVAL WARFARE LABS are in the CC.

I wonder if people in generations past wished for an apocalypse as much as this generation seems to. We have more TV shows, games, movies, novels, etc dedicated to end of the world scenarios than seemingly ever before. What is causing this? Is it our boredom with modern life? Have we been left behind ideologically?

Before, we had great wars that men could sign up for to satisfy their urges. WWI and WWII were epic campaigns that brought men to far off lands. Vietnam and the Trashcanistan theaters that came later were much smaller in comparison and the reasons for a man to go there and fight were much murkier. Whereas in WWI and WWII we went to help our allies and interests, against people that were truly enemies of freedom. In Vietnam and the Gulf, we were kinda fighting people we never heard of while helping people we never heard of in a place that was pretty shitty and for vague objectives.

So what is it about modern life that has us yearning for the end days, /pol/? Why are we so eager to watch the world burn? Is it just human nature to want to fight to survive? Are we different than previous generations in that respect? Do you really think we'll ever see a true apocalypse like event occur anywhere on Earth?

The Great Wars were literally apocalyptic man, men that fought in them lost most of their taste for violence.

I think it's just an extension of intrusive thoughts though honestly. Ever have a gun in your hands and wonder, "What would it be like if I shot myself," without any emotion? That's intrusive thinking, your mind coming up with outlandish, worst-case-scenario thoughts. They're normal, healthy even. That's all Apocalyptica is really. Taking a bad situation to the extreme.

Part of the reason I've been trying to curb the power of the SE. And again, I haphazardly made the CC without realizing how powerful it would turn out to be. I don't want it to be dominant, so Charleston, Wilmington, Legune, Hilton Head got hit hard as fuck by the Storm. The remaining Naval group struggles to keep shipping lanes open between the NEC and the CC

I agree, mutable lore is good for pretty much everything except character development, especially when it's made for something that will have audience input.

>>30963782
The broken sun is a reference to the ash obscuring it. Same with the brown color. Obvious grey sky and shitty ash lake waters. I wanted to add a miner or deer like the two current state flags within the coalition but all i had was paint and figured basic was better for people to fuck with.

>the thing was struggling to steady it's stance with that blade stuck in it's chest as I quickly got on my feet and it was my turn to pounce on that ashwalker and by god was I going to make that bastard hurt!
>I punched it's face and grabbed the blade and ripped it out from it's chest before I plunged it again into it's chest causing it to fall down on it's back and that thing was still screaming
>out of pure adrenaline I lunged down and I bit down hard on it's neck and ripped the side of it's throats with my mouth to kill it's ability to screech so loud
>I pulled the blade out and jammed it right into it's upper mouth causing the blade to go through it's fucked up skull and proceeded to grab one of it's antlers and broke it off and use it's own bones and jabbed it into it's eyes before ripping out the blade and giving it the final blow to the heart and plunged it hard into it's heart finally killing the ashwalker before it gave out it's last sad attempt of screaming before I grabbed the jaws and broke it almost causing it to be ripped off from the adrenaline I had in me

I honestly think it looks great. Sometimes I'm not too good on starting something like this from scratch, but that was a great idea to run with. I also realllly like the RoGC flag, and pic related too, it shows up sometimes on /wg/

the coastal military ports, bases and shipyards are pretty well built, the port of wilmington and jacksonville (nc) would be fucked up pretty bad.

and NC has the RTP which would be the mad science powerhouse when told GET THIS SHIT DONE, ETHICS BE DAMNED.

also the Intercoastal Waterway was built for the same reason, along with military purposes. they would need to set a shitload of dredging and sound teams loose on it, but i agree that the southeast would be OP HAX AS FUCK.

when i was a teenager in the late 90's hurricanes fran and bertha slapped our shit hard. i was 150 miles inland and we didnt have power for 2 1/2 weeks. in summer. that fucking sucked. Ivan fucking trashed the mountains with flooding, the rivers and creeks and shit didnt rise, they fucking exploded. in Clyde 30 miles west of asheville, the creek rose up 45 feet above flood. like went up the side of the little valley in was in, filled the valley, then went up to flood a house that was over 40 feet higher than that. shit blew my mind, i went there to help do clean up for some old folks that couldnt afford to have it done professionally, and the poor old guy broke down in tears from how bad it was.

i could just imagine the heavy load on shearon harris output and how many linemen would be needed to fix shit on the coast. goodthing we would have so many people that would be fighting for work then.

>the sky is getting dark but I have enough time to get back to the settlement so without haste I took my blade and I slammed it right into the temple of the beasts skull and used it as my leverage to drag the dead ashwalker back to the settlement where we will process the meat for food
>since food is very hard to come by if I have to remind you again about our struggle to survive
>I made it back to the settlement after my long walk dragging the dead ashwalker that kept me company in my return to home
>the people back home welcomed me with stares in their eyes without a word to be spoken which some of the men came up and took the ashwalker off from my hands so that the food processing can begin
>I stand there as the woods turn to dark since the skies fell dark as I turn around right as the gates closes behind me I see thousands of white glowing eyes staring right at me from the distance before they are shut out by the blocking view of the high gates
>I sigh of relief to finally be done with the day and knowing that we will have food for tonight is another unlucky blessings for us here

I'm gonna try writefagging for the first time in my life. Here we go.

>The Carolina Confederacy is a decent place to live.
>When Yellowstone erupted, most of the east coast of the United States was spared a coating of ash, only for ash to fall into the Gulf and cause a lot of strange weather.
>One strange weather in particular- the Storm.
>Everyone hears stories about it from all the old men that still care to remember what life was like before the Ash- a 400 mile wide hyperstorm that drowned all of the old coastal cities, and turned Florida into the Foreverglades.
>Even now, the coast is still coming inland. Last you heard, it had come about 20 miles west of Raleigh.
>But you don't really worry about that too much. Why worry about those poor schmucks in the Peidmont when you've got enough problems to worry ab-
>Yeah, fuck that, you don't have any problems. Even though the Ash destroyed most of former America, it wasn't like we didn't know it was going to happen. Increased volcanic activity at Yellowstone made the ground so hot that it melted the soles on people's shoes. The world had at least a little time to prepare for the end of life as they knew it. And your father just happened to be VERY prepared.
>While all of Boone was cowering in their boots, your family had already been on the road for hours, heading deep into the Blue Ridge mountains to take shelter in a safehouse. You remember your mother being livid when she found out that your father had spent tens of thousands of dollars to make a shelter in the mountains, for any kind of situation that had popped into his mind that day, whether it be the chinks, the Russians, or God himself.
>And food galore- enough to feed your entire family for 10 years, and enough seeds to ensure you had a farm once 10 years were up.
>And guns. Sweet Jesus, you didn't even know there were that many different kinds of weapons before your father showed you the armory.

Part 1/?, depends if it's good enough to continue or not.

Live in what used to be called St. Louis, a city with the watershed of North America rolling by the front door refreshing itself every month. The closest outpost to the ash zone, Gateway.

Convoys set out Westward on the path that's left of Old 70 to loot the remains of Kansas City and move on to the ghost cities of a shattered Colorado.

Trade moves up and down the Mississippi, and the inland port again becomes a frontier. Mercenary guards, settlers, and ash-slogging scum all stop in to resupply with farmed seaweed and mudbug protein brought up from the delta and "beer" made from whatever mash is cheapest at the moment in the massive former AB plant, abandoned by Belgian InBev in the economic catastrophe that followed the Fall of the West.

TEF keeps trying to set up shop and "keep the peace" but their garrisons always end up face down in somewhere or other. I'd say it's the damnedest thing, but you've never seen someone more doomed than to try to hold down the Gateway.

Thanks, man! But right, now it's kinda told through the eyes of a narrator.

>Back to your problems- you don't have any because your father basically fucking runs Asheville.
>After the eruption, he ventured out to find that the town was in complete disarray. Most of the town had huddled in their houses for protection, even though the Ash just gave the mountains a nice sprinkle. He organized them all, and turned Asheville into the relatively nice place it is today, as well as opened it's doors when refugees from the Outer Ashlands spread out.
>You thought it was pretty ironic.
>15 years later, and everybody still worships the ground your father walks on.
>Either way, life is pretty sweet, even after the end of the world.
>And it's pretty nice watching the Newfound Gap for new refugees, too. Pretty much everyone that passes through here is so emaciated that they couldn't be a threat, even if they wanted to be.
>As for everyone else, it's either traders, who always bring back a souvenier from the Ashlands to give to the children, or bandits, who's weapons are so broken down and rusted that they may as well be lobbing pebbles in your general direction.
>Yeah, the Carolina Confederacy is a nice place to live.
>KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK
"Oh for fuck's sake."
>You get up from your chair and climb to the top of the gate to look over. It's too early this month for traders to be showing up, and the bandits just tried to bust through two days ago, who the hell could this be?
>You look over and see a man. Not a convoy, or an army of bandits out for blood, but one man.

Part 2/?
>>
>>30966278
>To show up at the gate alone like this must take balls. Or he's being chased by some sort of monster. Either way, he looks like trouble. You lean over the gate and start your usual spiel.
"Welcome to New Asheville. Are you staying or passing through?"
>"Let me in."
>Well fuck you too, Mr. I-just-showed-up-at-your-door-with-no-warning. You raise your rifle over the gate and take aim.
"Can't do that unless you tell me what your business is here. Are you staying, or passing through?"
>"I suppose I'm passing through. Now let me in before I blow your hillbilly head off."
"Okay, first off, if you aren't a little bit nicer to me, I'm not gonna let you fucking through. Second, I-"
>You feel the round soar right by your ear and you instinctively take cover.
"Jesus Christ! Are you fucking insane?"
>"I said open the door, didn't I? Do you want the next one in the middle of your forehead or right between the eyes?"
"Christ, calm down, I'm opening it."
>You jump down and make your way to the entrance. On the outside, it's an imposing metal door that stretches the length of the pass. On the inside, though... if the bandits mounted an actual offense, you'd probably be fucked. The gate's just barred, anyway, it's not like it could hold up to an explosi-
>"Hurry up."
>Christ, you haven't even seen this asshole's face and you know he's a douchebag. This is going to be fun.
>As the gate swings open, the man rushes inside and nearly bowls you over.
>"Close it as fast as you can"
"Who says you can boss me around?"
>"The Mojave Union."

Part 3/?. If this thread is still up tomorrow, I'll continue, and if not, I'll try and start a new thread if there isn't one already.

At work sorry boys
>After the trek we settle into our usual spot in a warehouse south of the city
>We keep a few conexes here with rations water and emergency supplies (med kits/masks and spare cartridges/ a few guns and ammo)
>Some filthy N'wahs took the last of the chilimac MREs so pork sausage it is
>We talk amongst ourselves and trade stories from before the eruption.
One of our team has just come of age and this will be his first expedition we keep the conversation light to help ease his nerves
>Morning has come and everyone is fairly stiff and sluggish we cook the ash yams we brought for breakfast
>Our objective is the EMP museum, it's fairly familiar with the older guys since we raided it for all the star wars costumes and rock and roll legend guitars for personal reasons
>But it wasn't until recently one of our guys found a shipping invoice of a "the future is today" exhibit that was supposed to be opened some time after the eruption
>If only they knew
>This was the first time any of us went to the basement level
>On the way through the downtown area we see the pale faces in the windows, the long beards and man buns haven't changed but there looks to be more bloodlust in their eyes
>A few actually rush us but are put down easily enough
>The museum sits in the shadow of the space needle, a ghostly shell of its former beauty
>We head for the stairs near the loading dock but the stairwell is so caked in ash there is no way to open those doors
>We make a few passes inside the museum and eventually find a door that isn't blocked off in some way or another
>We bust the door down after a few attempts
>The sheer blackness within is daunting, but we have a few torches so all is well

Here's my idea. Enlarged border and sun for better readability at a distance, and added stars/tweaked the colors. This was to mesh with the idea for a GLC unit patch I posted a few threads ago. I also cleaned up the deer/elk thing to look less choppy, and have an alt color scheme for full visibility. The full color ones would be for display "in country", subdued for inna-ashlands.

New faction: Pennsylvania Quakers (I did my best to add them to the map but I suck at Paint. Someone can do it better if they want; this is just for a general area.)
>Somehow government holds on in Harrisburg, so we still have unity in surrounding area
>Enlist help from Amish to learn how we can live by conserving power and be more self sufficient
>Mainly get power from coal plants, some hydroelectric from the Susquehanna
>Use surplus coal as valuable trade for supplies
>Send out expeditions to surrounding areas (NJ, Philadelphia region, Delaware, etc) to expand outreach of territory
That's pretty much all I thought of for now. I'll add more later

>>30966437
Oh, that's fucking sexy.
>>30966445
Did you see the above one? Fuck me that's nice.
>>30966368
There was an anon who was writing about it, but hey man, that's what this is for. Write away, if it conflicts, we can work around it, revise it, or just have two conflicting stories and leave it up to the reader to believe what they will. Or, since there's no set time period, you could do a little further in the future, or a little bit PR, it's up to you.

Don't be hesitant to write something out of fear of stepping on someone's toes, just don't be an ass and keep an open mind if someone wants to suggest changes. Be ever willing to discuss.
>>
>>30966557
just realized five stars for five lakes. >>30966552
Beautiful. what if combines with the other anon as far as The banner flag using the miner and deer? Full symbolism there covering both regions and makes mention of the lakes with the stars. It would make a bold, full flag but not overcrowded.
>>
>>30966557
Fills in the empty space, mainly, and there seems to be 5 states represented in the GLC, thus the 5 stars.
>>30966552
That shit is fucking tight my man.I really wish I'd come up with a design for the CC so I could ask you to fuck with it.
>>
>>30966557
There are 5 great lakes. Only two are really in the GLC, hence two being larger than the rest in the patch. Also, in the map, the GLC's main body stretches through five states (ohio doesn't count since its land area for the main body is negligibly small).
>>
>>30966560
The original idea like somebody else said was nice and easily recognizable from a distance. Kinda bland for my tastes but it definitely represents
>>
>>30966582
I personally don't like the miner/deer thing, because in my opinion it just clutters it up too much. Could be adapted into a country seal sorta deal, but I like my flags simple. Which sucks, because I live in Wisconsin. Talk about an overcomplicated flag.
>>
>>30966588
>>30966582
Both spot on. See my post >>30966589

Also, if you give me some ideas for what to put on a CC flag, I could just come up with something.
>>
>>30966589
Fair point actually. If it sits well with everybody else i say we combine both finished ideas to make one sexy flag for the greater good of this industrial powerhouse union and call it macaroni. Ill come up with some backstory for the next thread.

>The area of the Mojave union was an unforgiving and desolate place even before The ash covered the sky with its impending sense of death.

>The land out here was not like the rest of the county, this was holy ground, it was alive. You could feel the ancestors of the Navajo watch over you as you trekked through this vast landscape and after the event, the souls of the dead.

>Across the vast landscape were abandoned small towns and Indian reservations the only links to the past left in the region
>At the center of it all was the capitol of the Mojave Union, Lake Havasu, a small resort town turned into the last vestige of humanity in this unforgiving region

>From here the Mojave union used the Colorado River to control its territory as the river was the one thing largely untouched by the ash

>The former city of lights know as “Las Vegas” was the northern most point of the Mojaves Unions power

>To the west lay the badlands of eastern California and the ruined landscape of the Los Angeles basin where a once proud and beautiful city was turned into a Mass grave

>To the east lay the TEF which the mojave union was allied with

>Between these two regional powers lay the ashlands of Northern Arizona where caravans and military patrols were known to disappear epically around the area known as Flagstaff

>Many of the older residents of the Mojave Union Who lived before the event in Yellowstone attribute these disapprences to old Navajo legend, while many of the Younger simply dismiss it as nonsense

>One thing is for certain, when traveling between TEF and MU territory those that travel along the roads of our ancestors should be wary of the city of flagstaff

Sounds good. Writing up a story about a NEC ranger.

With that in mind, I have some ideas regarding the NEC, though I don't want to step on anyone's toes.

Regarding an M1917 clone being issued, that doesn't account for Colt, Sig Sauer, Marlin, Ruger, Mossberg, and Smith and Wesson in the "Gun Valley". I believe the manufacturing of AR pattern rifles could continue well after the eruption, if not certain other semi-auto rifles.

Boston works as a capital.

For "muh speshul snowflake"'s sake, a ranger unit, using Roger's Rangers as inspiration could work.

Oh, well, see that's the rub. There's VA, GA, NC, and SC, all with varying symbols and crests and such, I don't really know what to use. I don't want to use the Battle flag, or just do the Old Stars and Stripes (that would be the NEC's thing, seeing as how they see themselves as the successors to the Fed)

So basically I have to come up with something distinctly Southern, and I haven't the foggiest idea of how. There is a long tradition of Mountain Men, maybe something along that line. Give me a moment, let me do some digging.

I'm having trouble with ideas, mainly because it's three in the morning, but here's a halfway decent flag I found that has significance. I don't want to use it, per se, but it's definitely in the vein of what I'm looking for. I just don't know what to use for a main symbol, if any other anons from the South want to weigh in, feel free, I'm drawing a blank.

I'd imagine Carolina Blue should be incorporated, maybe as the color of the field, maybe with 4 red stars orbiting one large white star in the center. One red for each state, the White for the confederacy as a whole.

Here's an idea. It's cluttered and very obviously rushed, but it's a decent starting point. I swapped the colors on the stripe and fimbriation on the "rebel flag", added a circle with the archway from the seal of Georgia, swapped the stars for the spear and chain from the Virginia national guard patch, added a moon to the left from the south carolina flag, and added a star to the right from the north carolina flag.

it's a heavily forested northern region wherein pine trees are some of the most common, I think that the inspiration from Cascadia should be present
I would say it's better than the color scheme of the other GLC flag, but what would you recommend as representative of the area?
>>
>>30967280
Honestly I like it better the correct color, with the star and moon swapped.

Here's a crazy idea, and just for shits and giggles. Could the field be Carolina Blue, and the inner stripe be red, just to see how that'd look?

As our scouts, composed of twenty men with supplies scavenged from Pueblo chemical depot advanced from the US-285 towards denver,
They chose this route instead of the I-25 due to the mountains providing cover from ash storms, supplies were running low, not surprising since the entire state was covered in about six inches of volcanic ash, the entire place looked like something out of a horror movie, as they were getting tired of walking for three straight days, they found it, their first stop, Fairplay.

The entire town looked like pic related, Ash everywhere, dead bodies covered by a thin layer of ash, no survivors were left, they decided to settle camp there, gather supplies and go north east to Denver, some went hunting, others scavenged hardware stores while the others started setting up camp, it was looking all right, until they attacked, they looked like bighorned sheep but tougher, bigger, faster, and uglier, by the blink of an eye, four of our men were killed, their heads beaten to a pulp by the pack of beasts
They were quickly stopped.
>>
>>30967296
I admit it does look better on a flag than the other scheme, but the way it's presented to me, when I look at it I immediately think of the pacific northwest. Try something other than white, to still incorporate the lakes and forests, or try an alternate layout than the horizontal tri-bar.

If you're still planning on setting up a GLC flag idea, try to stick to the principles of good flag design as well.

Keep it simple
>The flag should be so simple that a child can
draw it from memory.

Use meaningful symbolism
>The flag’s images, colors, or patterns should
relate to what it symbolizes.

Use only a few colors (2-3, no more than 5)
>Limit the number of colors on the flag to just a few, from a cohesive and varied pallet. Note that contrast is good, while clashing isn't.

No lettering or seals
>Never use writing of any kind or an
organization’s seal

Be Distinctive or be Related
>Avoid duplicating other flags, but use
similarities to show connections.

You don't have to strictly adhere to these guidelines, but keeping them in consideration will always help you churn out a much nicer looking flag design.

Also keep in mind how it might look hanging from a pole. Can you still clearly pick out what country/territory/etc it belongs to at a dead hang (no wind)? How does it look sized way down (simulating readability at a distance)? Try to avoid super fine details. Think about how it would look as an embroidered shoulder patch on a shoulder. These are all things to consider.

This one, despite having letters on it, is really nice looking imo. Try playing with the palette a bit, though. The colors seem wonky. And if you're dead set on the lettering, maybe try a few other fonts, too.
For bold lettering like that, I personally like Baron Neue Black, Gadugi Bold, and Raleway Heavy.
