I went to that range every day for the rest of the week. It was the beginning of an obsession.

First real time shooting I think I was around 16 or 17
Friend's dad took us for a day of shooting.
He bought a few pistols, an AK and a rifle. I think a Remington 700. I don't remember.
It was pretty fun. He also took us to dinner, too.

Boy Scouts at 12, .22lr
Boy Scouts at 12, skeet shooting 12ga

I would later become the second best rifleman and best skeet shooter in the state. I lost by one point in rifles to someone in the same troop.

Boy Scouts also taught me how to cook, and we won several cookoffs as well.

I miss scouts, and my old troop sucks at cooking and shooting now. It's sad.

My first time shooting a gun was firing pistols at an FN sponsored shoot.

I shot 9mm first, and that surprised me. One of the instructors had me switch to a Five-seven, then to a .45, then back to 9mm.

At the time, .45 ACP to my surprise, felt easier to handle than 9mm.

my first time "shooting" according to my parents i was 3 years old when we were out at camp and my dad let me aim and pull the trigger on his marlin 22wmr, he was holding the rifle though.

first time legitimately shooting a gun was when i was 11 years and my grandfather passed away and left me and H&R 922 revolver and my mom let me shoot at paper targets (under supervision) until i went through a 500 box of .22, still have the revolver and put at least 100 rounds through it every time i go to the range

Any other comfy shows like it?
>>
My father took me to a caliche pit with a target and a Savage 24 when I was 6. Had a lot of fun with the .22, but I kept asking to shoot the big barrel on the bottom.

Dad finally gave in and the .410 recoil scared the shit out of me. Good times.

There was a series on the history channel where they talked about the old West, I think it was called wild west tech, but there was an episode where they talked about old West guns like sxs shotguns and lever guns and wheel guns and stuff. There was a documentary in the history channel about trick shooters which was rrally cool.

>He asks me if my grandpa (his older brother) ever took me shooting.
>"No"

>Him: "Well, we'll just have to change that. Be up at 0700 tomorrow."
>Do as he asks, he drives us across the border and for about another half hour into Kentucky.
>He has an older son, in his 30s. Dude has acres and acres of property. And guns. Lots and lots of guns.
>He had a nearly mint condition M1 Garand. He also brought out a PU Mosin. (Didn't get to shoot the Mosin, but it was my first exposure to one.)
>Instantly knew what the Garand was because as a small poor kid I had nothing much to do except study history.
>We ride in a beat up old Willys Jeep out to the most remote area of his property. Cuzzo and crazy uncle set up a mat and a spotter's scope on a hilltop about 400 yards from the treeline, where there's already a torso-sized steel plate.
>Cuzzo has me take a prone position on the mat, and then teaches me how to operate the safety on the Garand. Tells me I have a full clip loaded.
>I take my time before pulling the trigger, and as soon as I do I'm glad I'm prone. 12 yr old me was not a big dude, and with me being a weak scrub, it could have knocked me on my ass.
>But it didn't hurt, it felt REALLY good. So I fire again, and crazy great-uncle walks in my shots. On the 5th round, I ding steel. The 6th round is also followed by an audible ding. 7th round barely drops low.
>I never knew the fate of the 8th round, because when I fired, the glorious PING of American steel gave me the closest experience to an orgasm that a 12 year old can achieve. It also was loud enough that I didn't hear if the round hit the steel plate. I didn't care.

Pellet Gun with my dad.

First real gun was way later. My dad got a few boxes 9mm from a friend (self loaded by an idiot, AKA random charges inside) and let me fire them at the range with his beretta.

He laughed while i was desperately trying to hit anything with the garbage-ammo.

I was 13 and I had been obsessed with the idea of shooting and while I didn't really know safety nothing went wrong that day (common sense does a lot for you)
Nothing special but we shot 3 guns. A glock in .40 (dont know the name) a mark2 ruger in .22lr and a 9mm taurus pt-99
I wasn't very accurate at all but it felt suprisingly natural to me. And it is damn fun.

With my father. He started us really young with wooden toy rifles with a removable round. Basics, never sweep at anybody, safest direction, retention, etc. From there air rifle maybe 5-6 years old. From there handling cleaning, and stripping rifles same safety drill. Finally range at a local sand pit and old piggery. From there started with handling, stripping, cleaning single action .22 revolver. Basics early on in life are key. And yes I know they will fuck you up if you go into the service later and blah blah it is easier to teach someone with no firearms experience on but remember just listen to what the fuck they teach you and don't stand out.

Also my first shotgun was a Russian bolt action 12 gauge with a steel buttplate and three round mag.. I hated that thing.

RIP dad. Our salvation lies in us and us alone. There is only the light of man burning deep in the furnace of the heart.

> line up the shot and take it

> one of them flies off
> other one has had his jimmies rustled so he is getting ready to depart
> right as he begins to flap upward, I take my next shot
> hear him screech as the bullet clips him in his left wing
> tragically spirals down to the jungle floor and lands in the bushes
> foster pai pats me on the back and congratulates me
> I'm ecstatic, until I see my dad
> he looks kinda upset
> ask him if he wants to try, he says no
> says he doesn't want to kill anything that wasn't an immediate threat. Said he didn't like me killing innocent animals.

> foster pai decides to take my dad back to the house to lighten things up.
> tells me I can mess around with the gun as long as I don't load any bullets into the chamber
> tells me to watch for pests and other animals on the perimeter.
for the next few days, I spent whatever down time we had patrolling the property and pretending to get into shoot outs with robbers and a pack of onsas.
I loved the feeling of caring the rifle on my back, out on patrol, lookin for baddies.

First time was in 4th grade through my local 4H program. Had a shooting sports project .22 rifles and archery for the starters then skeet shooting and black powder rifle. Last thing that opened up to people about freshman year was .22 handgun. Kinda ran by fudds but they drilled basics and required a hunter safety/ shooting course before to even go to the range days. For 10 years my summer consisted of waking up at 6am on Saturday and go to the range and shoot till about noon or so. Got reserve grand champ in skeet shooting my second year. 20 now and I miss those days so much

bb gun at 6 in cub scouts
.22 at around 10 also in cub scouts
12 guage at 16 in boy scouts
54r at 18 after first paycheck.

i only got to shoot at scouts, my parents are ok with guns (father owns a bunch, but kept them hidden until I turned 19 or so and asked about them, still not sure what all he has.), but they didnt want me having any as a kid since we lived in town and I would have probably shot the neighbors cats or something. I did get some airsoft pistols though, made great film props for school projects.

Newfeg here.

>Be last September

>Handed a laser rifle, told to aim at a tiny mark on the wall and get it as close as possible
>Hit it just about right on
>Guy teaching me is impressed, has me gather a single shot .22
>Take it into the range and get set up
>Work dat bolt and use the 15 rounds I was given, as instructed
>Smell the burnt powder
>Easily one of my favorite smells now
>Show them my target, as I was asked to
>They start talking quietly to each other
>Apparently most newbies don't get all their shots in the black
>Be surprised that I'm any good, do it again
>My next group is even tighter

From then on until just about winter when I stopped going to focus on college stuff, I was judged to have serious natural talent. I haven't shot since then, but I want to and I'm trying to think of ways to convince my parents that it's a good idea for me to have a firearm of my own. Dad has a SIG P220, never been with him for that. Shouldn't be THAT hard, because both of them acknowledge that I'm not a retarded fuck when it comes to gun safety and that I'm a good shot. That being said, mom's not that thrilled every time I bring it up. Probably just run-of-the-mill parental concern.

As for first gun ideas, I'd like to get something larger and more fun than just .22 that I can plink with reliably. Any suggestions? Currently considering either an SKS, Mosin, or Mossberg 590. (Leaning toward the 590 right now).

What's your budget? Are you just plinking, or are you going to use it for something else?
>>
>>30956915
I was about 12 or 13, on holiday visiting family in a tiny village in France. There was a fair there with the usual fairground crap. I was bored but my younger brother was enjoying himself so I hung around. Then my day pointed to a stall in the corner that had a tiny rifle range in it. I'd shot air rifles and was interested in guns so I jumped at it, threw down €5 and was handed a single shot bolt action rifle and 5 .22 shorts. I got a ~1cm group at from about six feet. Still got one of the casings somewhere.
I didn't shoot again until I was 20 and joined a shooting club because britbong. I'll never forget my first time shooting. I remember it more clearly than losing my virginity.

buy a complete upper, stripped lower, and lower parts kit, psa has great deals and quality products, you can easily get an ar for between $500-$600
.223/5.56 is reasonably cheap and extremely plentiful, and can be easily used for boar and just plinking, and the amount of ways to set up an ar is damn near limitless
>>
>>30970339
I'd recommend the SKS, then. 7.62x39 is good for boar and is cheap for plinking. Please don't bubba it if you get a nice one.

I recommend picking some of this up: https://www.classicfirearms.com/yugo-igman-m67-762x39-ammo-40-round-box
Yugo strippers are generally the best, plus you get some ammo, too. Remember to clean your rifle because this is corrosive. I bought 5 of these just for the stripper clips. Of course these are optional, but they sure help.

If you decide to get optics, this is the only acceptable mount IMO: http://scoutscopes.com/t/sks-systems

Very stable and you can still field strip without loss of zero. Just make sure you get an extended eye relief scope if you want to go magnified. Vortex makes a nice Crossfire one for not too much.

Not my issue if someone else wants to. I have one of those mounts and a MD-ADS on it, and I have had no issues. Fighting with the rear sight leaf spring is a bitch, though, but I did it.

Old Browning lever-action .22 when I was five. Was one of my dad's first guns. Hits dead-on. He sighted it in before I was born and hasn't adjusted by so much as a fly's ass hair since.

Shot an 870 when I was six or seven. The prick told me to always make sure there was an inch of space between my shoulder and the butt plate.

Miss you, dad.

I would, but the resulting sadness of having an autistic-looking gun would make me sad more frequently than I'd like to be.

I figured it'd be good to get an SKS, seen a few for around 400 bucks. I'd most likely drop the extra couple dollars on Tula ammo just to avoid corrosiveness. (And I'd never dream of fudding out such a glorious rifle.)

P.S. Budget's probably gonna cap out around 400, I've never had more than that spent on me for birthday gifts
