124 or 147gr, though it really doesn't matter too much. I prefer 124 because it groups better in my carry gun.

So I just recently got my license to carry a handgun and am going to pick up my first gun ever on monday. I purchased a mp shield 9mm for 320 bucks. Is that a decent price? And is there any one website or couple that have the best prices on gear like say a trigger kit I have heard about or a green laser or do I pretty much just have to keep my eye out for sales?
>>
Thinking of a Glock 19 gen4 as my first handgun and as possible concealed carry. What should I expect the gun with the 17 round magazine to cost? What else should come with the gun at that price? Usually it has a case and two or three mags I read.

Depends on the model. 115gr for practice all day. Most full size service pistols work best with 124gr. Some models work great with 147gr, like the P938.
Try a few or research your model and figure out what works best. And get +P if your pistol can handle it.

It seems like the grip is noticeable, as is the extra recoil spring. I would think the extra spring would help with recoil quite a bit and therefore accuracy. Interchangeable backstraps seems nice too
>>
>>30952184
>Ill start, 115, 124 or 147g or for 9mm cc?
If you have to ask, then it doesn't matter.

Lighter bullets tend to allow hollow points to expand a bit more, but heavier bullets (in 9mm) are subsonic, making them better suited to suppressor use. The heavier bullet also has a marginal advantage in barrier penetration, but considering that lighter bullet loadings in 9mm will travel faster, making up for some of their lack of mass, it's not a big difference. 124 grain is considered standard for modern pistols.
>>
>>30952184
I swear by 147gr. I carry a 17rd mag loaded in my carry gun with 147gr Barnes hollow points and a 19rd mag on the side loaded with 147gr American Eagle flat-point FMJ for barrier penetration and wildlife defense.

>>30952893
The magazine release and slide catch are much better. The dual spring is the biggest difference. It does mitigate recoil somewhat, but earlier Gen4 springs were too stiff and sometimes FTE'd shitty ammo. I think that's fixed. I shoot budget 115gr with mine all the time and have never had a malfunction.

/k/ I need a first gun suggestion.
I will go back to college soon, but I have enough money saved up that I wouldn't really have to get a job as long as I live frugally. If I get a side job money shouldn't be an issue.
I live in Eurostan. Free college, but (((they))) are on the brink of banning centerfire semiautos (expected to hit around December/early 2017).
I want a rifle or shotgun (preferably rifle) in case the race war goes hot. In the meantime I plan on 100m precision and maybe IPSC later. Should I get an autonugget/sks (500€) or a quality AR (2000€+) or a semi shotgun (1000-2000)?
"Battle rifles" are not really a consideration since I live in the suburbs where I doubt I will need 308. Ammo cost and all. Recommendations please.

>>30953930

>>
Would an early renaissance musket or pistol create enough sound to deafen a person - temporarily, permanently or cause last damage/pitched ringing - if fired close to the ear?
>>
>>30955168
if a race war happens, the last thing you want to do is attract more attention with your gun, you're not going to be picking off fuckers at your leisure. You are a lone person. You have no supply/logistics network to back you up. You have no friends who are also armed and coordinated to back you up, you have no air support to call or any sort of fire support.

Get a shotgun and lots of shells or semiauto rifle with ammo. Then just not stick out and be observant enough to know when to get the fuck out and remain on the low.
When you are pressed into needing to use your gun, go for it, but if you can entirely avoid and circumnavigate the situation entirely, do that because you're not fucking military.

You're right the majority of IWBs are stupidly overbuilt for no reason. PJ holsters and High Noon both sell minimalist versions that are very comfy. There might be other makers too but they are hard to find. I carried with a clip draw for a while and switched to holster because I prefer a forward cant and I didn't like the gun rotating its position. Clipdraw works as advertised but I wouldn't recommend it long term.
>>

In the end I think this was probably more of an /adv/ topic. If I need to operate, it will be Houses with some fields/plains around them. However when I'm not, I want to shoot accurately.
Let me rephrase:
Do you think a .223 is sufficient for urban scenarios with occasional small fields against unarmored targets?
Do 70 year old slav rifles hit accurately enough out to 100-200 yards?
>>
>>30955947
Yes to both

At what point do you start having to replace parts on a Glock due to wear? I shot a G19 at the range recently and had A LOT of issues, mostly FTFs, but a few stovepipes too. I checked and rechecked my grip to make sure I wasn't fiddling with something I shouldn't have been, and I wasn't limpwristing, but issues persisted. That gun is one of the more popular rentals, so I'm assuming parts are just worn out, but at the same time, it's assuming Glock, it's supposed to be some kind of indestructible Austrian wonder. Whole experience left a sour taste in my mouth on them.

What advantages does bolt action have over break action, disregarding of course that bolt actions often have magazines.

What I'm talking about is, I've noticed there are many single shot rifles that are bolt action, which doesn't make sense to me because break action is just as good as far as I can tell and is simpler and cheaper to make.

What am I missing?
>>
>>30952184
Is the colt 1911 complicated to field strip and reassemble?
>>
>>30959539
but there aren't many single shot bolt actions. Pretty much just kids' 22s and target/benchrest guns.

So, the main benefit is that they can be, and usually are, repeaters.

Also, they're easier to cycle/reload in any position but maybe for standing upright.

It will stop stabs from most knifes and maybe a could of swings of a sword just in case there are ninjas in your neck of the woods, also might stop up to .22 you should test that out with a friend first before you take my word for it then come back here and report your results to us. I can't imagine anything except that your selector is out of spec or so badly made that you're some how able to release the hammer while on safe.

Is it possible that you didn't install the disconnector properly? Or that you put the hammer spring struts under the trigger pin instead of on top? Is there debris in your trigger shoe hole? Are your megahertz plugged in fully?

Pei 5 floor tile, look for the vid where they wrap it in denim and locktite adhesive, one layer of tile is fancy and should absorb a stab or pistol round, three layers is dancy and should absorb close-range LIII threats, four layers and you're fancy dancy all day. Takes a week to cure each plate, so make sure you build enough replacements early rather than as you need them.
>>
>>30966204
>>30966488

After a little more work, I've determined that without the safety switch installed the trigger works perfectly. It seems like the actual safety is shortening the amount the trigger can pull.
Gonna keep working, will post further findings.
Thanks fellas.

Are there any commercial gun cleaners that are specially formulated to remove residue from corrosive surplus ammunition?

I am well aware of the various different methods that one can use, but I'm asking mostly out of curiosity. I've seen all sorts of CLPs and cleaners, but not one specially made for corrosive ammunition. Just want to know if it exists.

Alright, after much work I can't find a way around the safety thing.
I've tried both the safety that came with my current lower and the one that came with my new trigger and they both give me the same issue. In the fire position, it stops the trigger too soon and the reason it fires after a few pulls is because it actually jiggles the hammer out rather than a direct release.
I've meticulously gone over the instructions and diagrams provided with the new trigger and I really don't think I've missed anything.

I'm working with nothing but brass punches and my fingers are sore as shit from holding that thing together and getting the pins in and out. I'm done working tonight but I'm gonna bump this question in the morning.
Anybody got anything to throw in, please do.
Here's a funny gif

You should be fine. If you're using non-jacketed rounds, you might clog up the rifling with lead leading to keyholing and overall reduced accuracy. Plus 300 rounds really isn't a lot.

What would be a good recurve bow to use for small game hunting? I'm looking to use the Hammer screw-ins because I read that they were very effective for not getting lost and shutting squirrels and rabbits down easily. What arrows should I use for this as well?

Blog part; only read if you want reasoning.
I was very good at archery as a child, but never kept up with it as an adult. My father recently started using a compound bow, and I tested it out. I did pretty well, despite it being a left handed bow. The only thing I didnt like is how much of a monstrosity it felt like to use. It was too easy, he had it rigged up with a trigger and everything, it was covered in gadgets and honestly it made me feel like a huge pussy to use. Of course i started talking shit about his old ass not being able to use a real bow without having easy mode on, and so now basically I have to impress him by using a recurve (or long) bow, and I would also like to get good with using it for small game, which I've been hunting for years.

TL;DR
My dad is a weak old bitch but I still want to win his affection

The guy who made that video was a fucking faggot.

If he had used fiberglass and epoxy like in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dscxjnvC8JA , the plate would have been much lighter.
Disregard the fact that it couldn't stand up to level III threats; the guy in the video didn't use PEI level 5 plates.

Anyways, besides that, I'd recommend getting one of these: https://www.amazon.com/58122-CUTShield-14-Inch-Sleeve-Resistant/dp/B000EIY8KQ/ref=pd_sbs_328_4?ie=UTF8&dpID=31JLpmvpBIL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_&refRID=0ZEKWJNQ79TRRP584122
It won't provide any stab protection, but it will, however, protect against any slashes.

i dont get the attitude of some customers, i really really fucking dont, maybe its because me and my buddies were always understanding that gun shops are a business first and your buddy second, yeah they want your repeat business, but if theyre not making money its not worth your repeat business or "friendship"

why the fuck would you walk into a store, and expect me to beat out every other shop and make less money, when i know that particular model of handgun will be sold the day it comes in? if you want to be a cheapass, why bother asking for a price? if its cheaper somewhere else go fucking buy it

why do they act like theyre doing me a fucking favor for walking in the door and breathing my air? im glad its the minority of customers that do this but fuck me is it goddamn annoying
>>
>>30967961
now, we do give some deals go customers who have spent a good chunk of change, before i started working at the shop, i got the occasional deal, but i didnt walk in and expect any off, especially on guns, its easier to discount higher margin items like magazines and parts, but guns already have low enough margins

if your shop gives you a $10-15 discount on a gun, theyre giving you a solid deal, and chances are theyre not making a ton of money on it, especially on lower $$$ guns like inexpensive/basic .22's, pump shotguns, etc.

not to mention, i am but an employee, if i started handing out discounts without my bosses approval, i would reamed into the next dimension, my asshole would occupy a 2nd airplane seat, even if my boss tells me to give a guy a discounted price on an item, i always make sure to double check to be safe.

if you come in and drop 2k on a sweet AR setup (which has happened a couple times) chances are you are going to get some items discounted, or if youre on the fence about something you might get a couple bucks off, also more likely on items that have been sitting for a while

if an item is sitting for months and months without going anywhere, its better for us to shave a few bucks off, sell it, and then not restock it because the interest isnt there.

also the whole "cash price" thing, there's always posts on arfcom and shit about how walking into a shop cash in hand gets you a discount, not true where i work, our margins are low as fuck, we dont discount for cash/debit, we just add on a % for credit, and everybody walks away happy

As far as the haggling goes, it's probably a cultural thing if they're some sorta dune coon. I'm not saying it's a great part of their culture, but it's literally in their goddamned DNA to haggle and argue. I work for an IT company and one of our largest customers is spread out across the Middle East. They spent several thousand dollars to purchase "admin hours" from us to avoid waiting for their corporate office to send payment so we can perform certain tasks that aren't included in our already generous support. Every fucking month since then their main Account Rep, who's from Jordan, calls to yell and argue with us about having used any of the "hours"... even after he fucking approved the work.

Sounds like you're learning what I learned 10 years ago and made me drop the gun industry and everything to do with it like the proverbial hot potato: gun people are fucking retarded douches who don't know what the fuck quality is, want everything for free, and when they can't get it, will talk shit about gold and polish turds to the detriment of everyone who hears their bullshit and doesn't know any better.
I mean, this is how stupid the gun world collectively is: to this day... I think it's been the best part of 20 years since this rumor dropped and was immediately disproved... I still hear about the "Colt will only sell to police/military!" "news". Sometimes I still see it presented as a recent development.
You can make money hand over fist off them if you're willing to manipulate the collective stupidity, but you have to tolerate it in equal measure, and I didn't really enjoy doing either.

What calibers/guns provide good margin for error when hunting black bear? (Bait method)

By margin of error i mean stopping a charge with panic center of mass magdump.

I know a well placed or lucky hit can be a 1 shot stop with many lower even pistol rounds, but barring that; whats safe for a beginner?

I was thinking maybe some kind of magazine fed semi auto shotgun? Or would a standard ar 30/5.56 be enough?

Bringing one if my friends (who has some shooting [pistol and shotgun only] experience] but no hunting experience.

Ill be using a 308, wondering what i could lend him out of what i have (e.g. an ar, but idk if that would be sufficient) or if i should buy a shotgun for him to use and myself to keep in general as i dont have a shotgun at the moment (had a mossberg pump in the past but gave that to another one of my friends when i moved)

Im going to be doing most of the shooting as far as the hunting is concerned probably, just want to make sure my buddy has something that he could use to defend himself if things get hairy, i dont claim to any kind of expert marksman thats going to stop it mid charge while its running at him; running at me, i understand how to handle with sidearm, but in all the previous bear hunts i was at i was the "new guy" and this would technically be the first one where id be the lead so i dont want anything bad to happen.

Would a semi auto slug gun (rem 1187 or something) or mag fed buck gun (saiga, veor, etc) be the better option? (Im kind of interested in a getting a new shotgun in general as i presently do not have one) or am i looking in the wrong direction in thr first place?

If memory serves, the difference is negligible between 16" and 20" barrels for 5.56. Velocity starts dropping sharply if you go much shorter though.

Go to a range and rent an AR and a FAL and decide which one you prefer. An FAL will be heavier and more robust and ammo will be more expensive

Surely there are some youre more implicitly attracted to or interested in based on appearence, anecdote, or certain desire for a certain kind of gun (i want a small high cap polymer 9mm! I want a big magnum revolver!)

And google reviews for it

Its easier today than its even been in the past what with all the online firearm enthusiast community and review sites etc...

I would look up local regs first though so you dont get hyped for something which is either not availible or legal in your area.

After this research phase then go to local gunstores/ranges and rent before you buy (if possible)

Dont just go into a gun store and ask them what to buy, i dont know your lgs guys, they might not be assholes but going in with no clue what you want and planning to leave with something is a real sucker move, youll probably end up paying more than you could have for something with selling points that you dont really care about and features you dont need
>>

Dude just get a full blown rifle safe or put them in the safe you already have. Pistol specific safe is kind of pointless. If its not on your person, it should be in your big safe. Big safes can hold lots of things, you should have one if you own guns in general, pistol safe is only enough for a pistol and not usable for more guns or other valuables. Entry level stand up safes are light enough to carry home by yourself, up stairs, etc... and install and are like easily less than 150

I bought a bunch of random reloads from some website for really cheap one time. Some of the brass looked rough and the QC wasn't the best, but my USP ate every single one of them with no problems. I'd imagine any glock or m&p, etc. would do the same.

probably difficult to get a scientific answer one way or the other.

and cleaning guns until they are museum quality clean every time we shoot them is definitely overkill anyway (i still do it because i like to).

honestly you could probably shoot whatever ammo you want (assuming it's non-corrosive) and only clean your weapons every 1000 rounds or more, and you'd still be fine.

a friend of mine bought some bottom tier 1911 and shot well over 1000 rounds out of it, never cleaned it, then left it in one of those soft cases for like 5 years, never touched it. When he finally brought it out, aside from some slight rust pitting on the frame, the bore and chamber were perfect after a good soak in solvent. This was like 3 years ago, and the gun is still running fine and I know he neglects the fuck out of it.

guns are strong, i'm just super anal about mine.

Anyone without a license can fire a gun in Canada as long as they are within arms reach of someone who has the appropiate license for that class of gun (usually non-restricted for long guns, restricted for AR15 or handgun).

If you are going to be in Canada for a while, you could also take the safety course and get a visitor's license. You will need a letter from your local LEO in AZ showing you aren't a criminal. Also, turnaround time on it is minimum a month after you submit it.

You could also buy anything clasified as "antique", which includes modern reproductions of match/wheel/flintlocks. No need for a license, you just need to be: over 12 years old and not barred from owning guns due to a criminal conviction or domestic dispute restraining order. Please note that just getting the conviction or restraining order is not enough to disqualify you; the judge has to specifically disqualify you in their judgement.

that's pretty cool and all but that seems to more be for quickly slinging and putting away the rifle to draw the pistol

I'm more concerned about going from relaxed sling carry position to ready. I want at rest rifle position to have grip at equivalent of 4 or 5 oclock so I can draw like a pistol and swing it up easily .

more asking about comfortable alternate holster positions for a righty that don't get in the way of sling movement on draw and do not make the pistol particularly inaccessible or impede general movement

like I said with a chest rig; this is no problem whatsoever, I guess I'm looking for right-handed left side holster pistol methods if that makes any sense?

I need to be a resident of the county I apply in but San Diego county doesn't consider self defense to be a good cause. I live in school housing so I mostly live outside of San Diego county

Depends on what generation. Earlier generation go for a black powder. Later generation go for SAA pattern gun. Maybe a mares leg.

Forget larping and get into cowboy action shooting.

Some asshole got really mad at WWB and started spamming shit Posts about it. It's my 3 gun ammo. Never had any issues with their 5.56, 124 and 147gr 9mm, 380, .45 or 12ga target loads in my 11-87.

Also it's the cheapest brass .45 I can find in town.

dry firing any rimfire will chew up the mouth of your chamber and peen the firing pin. don't do it.

Many newer rimfires are designed so that they can be safely dry-fired: my 10/22 even recommends dry-firing in the manual to familiarize yourself with it.
Meanwhile my Buckmark manual explicitly says never to dry-fire it (has happened a couple times due to magazines not feeding though).
Depends on the specific gun

The ruger mk. III requires multiple dry fires during disassembly.

There is a firing pin stop that prevents it from hitting the chamber face.

147 is subsonic and quieter in general.
124 is probably best all around performer if it matters.
115 or lighter is fine for hot summer carry.

I really like 147gr but it's harder to come across, recoil more and may have a longer overall length that could cause feeding issues in some guns.
In general, it's best to just stick with 124.

Do I need to do anything other than swap the barrel to convert an AR-10 (7.62/.308) to 6.5 creedmoor?
