Why do so many watches have the minutes labeled around the edge, in addition to the regular marks between the numbers?
Do people not know how to read a clock anymore?

Luminox watches are known to fall apart, a simple amazon search would have shown you this.

I have a luminox and it was great at first but now I'm having issues. It's Swiss made so you can't have the battery replaced at any old jewelry store and if you do it voids your warranty. If the back is taken off and not put back on by a licensed luminox Profesional it voids the warranty and loses its waterproof seal. The lense that is supposed to be some scratch and chip proof crystal is scratched and chipped. Get a G-shock.

The Luminox watches are great.
Dont know about the warranty situation, i live 2 miles away from the factory.

OP, look into Deep Blue/Air Blue.

I believe there's an Air Blue on Massdrop right now. If you're not looking to buy right now, they can be found for *cheap*. They always do a fathers day sale that's ridiculous. I bought the white one with it on clearance and a 40% off code a couple years ago.

They all have actual sapphire crystals and the green one has an automatic movement. I picked every one of them up for well under $200 after shipping. You just have to know what you want and watch for them, also get on their mailing list. They advertise their Fathers day sale, but not the coupon code that stacks, they email that out.

The orange one was my first one and it's waterproof up to 1000 meters, which while I'll never dive that deep, I do dive often.

They have a few military style watched too, some of their day/night diver series fits that bill.
>>
>>30923933
No problem. The biggest issue is that there are only like 2 licensed luminox dealers that can repair one in the US. Other than that you have to ship it to Switzerland or wherever to have them work on it. And if you get it off of Amazon or something and not a licensed luminox dealer they can't sign your warranty card and you'll have to pay for everything. That's what happened to me. The battery also died after only 6 months.
>>
>>30923875

Of it has a rotating bezel then you turn it to act as a rudimentary stop watch. Diving watches and watches of the same design predominantly have them as in the past they were literally the only "dove computer" you had to keep track of remaining air. That's why they only rotate one way, you can only ever make it seem like you have less air than you really do, never more.

On watches without a rotating bezel it is just copying the design of high end watches like a Rolex dive watch.

I should have been more clear, this white one was on clearance for 30-40% off, then I stacked a 40% off code on top of that. And now that I think of it, the white one might have been just over $200 after shipping, but it was still close.
>>
>>30923969
When I called them they told me I had to ship it to Switzerland or wherever to have the battery replaced. I like the watch but it's been kind of a hassle. It is rugged and keeps time great. Just more maintenence than I expected for only having it for 6 months.

Too lazy to make a pic, but I love my Traser P6600 Sand.
>>
>>30923981
Those are nice looking watches and if they're really 1000m waterproof they are a steal at under 200. Durable?
>>
>>30923875
It's mainly for dive watched, you "zero" out the rotating bezel on the minute hand, wherever it may be, then you know when you started your dive (or whatever your timing) and you know when to surface if your watching your blood nitrogen levels.

They also only rotate in one direction, so if you bump the watch, you can only lose time (the bezel would say you were down for 15 min, when you were only down for 10) rather than gaining time and running into problems (reading 15 when you've been down for 20 in reality)
>>
>>30924016
The orange one is 1000m, the white one is 500m and the green one is I think 200ft, but it's not a dive watch.

I've had the orange one for 3 years or so with every day wear for the first year, and it's got one scratch on the bezel (on the 55 min mark) but other than that, it's like new.

My job however is accounting and printing on presses, so nothing really high impact, but still...
>>
What watch to get, I've been looking at a Casio G9300-1 but literally NONE of the 8 watch/jewelery stores I've been to have carried it (or the similar ones e.g. the 9333, 9300-GB or whatever) and I think it might be deprecated.

What would be good for a roughly equiv-spec watch e.g. mud/water/shock resist, digital face, compass, solar power, thermometer?

FYI Luminox watches aren't very good. You can buy basically identical models from the direct manufacturer (who's name I can't recall right now) if you don't want the OMGNAVYSEALSWEARTHESETHEYMUSTBEAMAZING!!1!¡! branding.

If you want a real SEAL watch look up Resco Instruments.

>>30925532
The cheapest version is a $250 movement. The higher grades are substantially more expensive. Smaller production makers will often order custom versions as well. There are several $5k+ watches using the movement.

Saying it's the same is like saying a Delton is the same as a Noveske since they're both ARs.
>>
>>30925845
>The higher grades are substantially more expensive.
wow you think they would advertise that
but it's just swiss eta 2824, which is not "custom" at all

they're selling to idiots that think "swiss made" means it's worth that much.
>>
This seems to kill two birds with one rock
>>
>>30925987
Most everyone just says 2824 regardless of grade. Saying "based on the ETA 2824" has become disfavored in marketing. Originally it was for modified ETAs but it started being used for clones.

Beyond that they regulate them and they're in pressure tested cases. The ~$600 watches you see with tha movement don't have those.

I just go to a jewelry kiosk in a mall to get my battery replaced, it is what I have been doing for 15 years and no problems so far. I highly recommend luminox but it seems that their older watches are more reliable/better build quality than the newer ones. Also the stainless steel case and sapphire crystal are nice, but the tritium has started to dim slightly. Not enough to effect the visibility, but it is slightly dimmer than when I got it originally.

I've also got a GWM5610-1 if you're looking for something a little tougher than an automatic that can take a beating. I love the solar feature so there's no battery to replace and the atomic feature means it's usually pretty accurate.

I think G-Shocks are usually bulky as hell but the smaller ones like this and the DW5600 are really comfortable.
