When do I find out if it went through? Odds on the Army taking me with that on my record?

One of my LCpls spent his entire paycheck in like 4 days on nothing but payperview porn and pizza.

I've let doc use me for a number of medical experiments.

Hearing out how our XO wanted to drive out onto a live fire motar range and almost got blown up.

>>

well apparently its for people who want to go infantry but have a bit more about them, according to the regt at least anyway.
at the moment there's fuck all for them to do since we left afghanistan and the raf police are taking over more of the force protection role. so theyre losing guys because of boredom.
some of the guys i spoke to think the regt's days are numberd now too, though i think it'd be at least 15 years before that actually happened.

if you want to go infantry its definitley a better choice than the army lifestyle-wise but you wont get to do quite as much opporationally

In the army you train as a general officer then get put on a unit. You state your preferences but it's need of the service at the end of the day. I've heard that the people with the strongest leadership end up as infantry, average get RE and AAC and stuff like that and the weaker ones get signals, that's all conjecture from a couple army NCO's I know though.

In the RAF you choose your branch before you join
>>

basically you'll get there, and on the first day of PT you'll all do an initial PT test to see where you stand. there will be lots of red belts (people who are out of shape), and some blues, mostly green (iirc)

After that, you'll alternate between cardio, which is 20 mins of running and then sprint/walk/sprint/walk, and the next day would be push ups and sit ups

What are my chances.

>>30930594
Besides the arrests you would seemingly be golden. I don't know a lot about officer stuff but getting into Intel with arrests might prove to be tricky if not impossible. Spacing everything out like that. It's weird. Anyway, best place to start is to read all of the wonderful info on the different websites for different branches (assuming American) and learn some stuff so no one has to spoonfeed you.

And I have been doing some research on it too. If i understand correctly, your asvab scores and the military's needs will determine what jobs or positions you'll be offered. Now if they don't offer you the opportunity to become a medic and move on to AIT, is there a chance to move into it in the future if a position opens up? Or is there no bitching allowed and you stay where you're offered?
>>
>>30930811
13P here. You'll come over here at Sill with the 78th as a non-iet, Bravo Battery. It's pretty chill with you fuckers after the work day, however you do seem more disciplined overall given your job. Just gotta run around with your assault pack and a map all day, learn how to request arty from me, etc. Think you have a ruck march at some point of your 6 weeks..otherwise idk. You'll have a lot more freedom as a non-iet and can roam off post after 1700.

>>
>>30931621
If you sign up without the MOS that you want, you'll have to reclass later, like, maybe way later. Good rule of thumb is to never expect the army to give you what you want while you're in and that you'll be shit on at every turn. Generally you get what you want on the contract when you're signing up or you walk out.

Have you tried rotc? If youre looking to go commission reserves. You could do rotc for 3 years. Ms1 year, ciet (over the summer to skip ms2), then do 3 and 4 year.

Either that or see a specific reserve unit youre interested in to see if they can pt together an ocs packet for you.

What are the odds of being accepted into the army as a Prior Service Marine?

No specific job in mind, just curious if it's even possible right now.

I understand that I don't have to go through army Basic Training, so is there any real waiting list, or can I just get immediate orders to my next unit, get a couple briefs and a clothing allowance, and be on my way?

Extremely fucking high, obviously.

My platoon got a prior service Marine and everyone hates him, mostly because he's a shitbag but also because it's a very different environment.

>>30932658
nigga wut, even if you didn't have to go through BCT you need to go through AIT.

Yo can you explain why tis obvious? Not that guy but im prior service as well and i am looking to go into the army. I figured with the downsizing it would be tough. I heard in a previous thread they are only taking 18xs for prior service, any truth to that?
Also do prior service have to re go thru army BCt if they are coming from another branch? im asking cause i would actually like to.
>>
>>30932678
That's good to hear, but I wasn't aware that my odds were high at all. I was under the impression that I was pretty much put on the same level as fresh out of high school civilians.

Ah that's right, I forgot about AIT. I was on Fort Lee for my MOS school, I remember the kind of silly stuff they did there.

Interesting, i was navy so im glad i get to go. What are you trying to go in as, infantry?
>>
I'm kind of looking forward to it, I might give the recruiter down the road a ring and see if he can give me some solid answers.

I'm not a great Marine, but I'm far from the worst. I imagine their standards aren't that high, since if you were a really stellar Marine you'd probably be reenlisting anyway. I'm ready to get away from the gung ho retardation. I don't hate the service by any means, but at this point I've already earned my EGA and all that bullshit, I have nothing to prove, I can just focus on doing my job and getting along with people.

>>30932712
I'm not sure, the more I think about it being an armory or some POG job wouldn't be bad. If I can get an infantry contract or anything above that then great, I'd be happy to, but I wouldn't press for it.
>>
>>30932691
No truth to it, I'm 11b and we got a prior service Marine. They can get a slot anywhere just like anyone else, AFAIK.

And from what I know, you'll be dropped into AIT with other prior service if you're from the Corps.

>>30932697
You'll be treated differently throughout your entire career especially if you have a deployment patch with the Corps, which you can wear.

I want to fly cool shit. I'm 23 and currently working on an associates, and then a bachelors. I would be 27-28 when I'm done with school.
I've got some drug history, but no criminal record. I've smoked pot way more than 15 times, but I wasn't dependent on it. I was also hospitalized one time because I had a bad mushroom trip. How are my chances of becoming a pilot? Would my chances be better if I got a bachelors and commissioned with the air force or navy, or should I look into becoming a warrant officer?
>>
>>30929416
Weapons system officer isn't a role anymore, and weapons system operator is a non-comissioned role so you'd join as an airman then get promoted to sergeant after phase one training. Also Wsop's don't fire any weapons, they're in charge of the equipment in the back of the aircraft.

For pilot and drone you do about 7 hours of tests on a computer, testing for a shit load of things like how quickly you can process information when you're under a lot of pressure (imagine trying to do an air display while someone plays simon says with you and someone else is giving you lists of numbers to remember). There's also things that test your spacial awareness and hand eye foot coordination.
The only stuff you can really prepare for is working out speed/distance/time equations (they're never too have to work out, things always divide into whole numbers) and practice simple division/multiplication as there's a couple tests where they fire sums at you while you're having to concentrate on other stuff.

Wsop's do some of the same tests but they don't do the whole 7 hours since the officers aptitudes test for every officer aptitude branch (i.e. even if you're only applying for pilot you'll still do the tests that relate to intelligence officer)

No, unless you get tagged for something special once you hit the Fleet after SOI. That'll get hashed out later, don't worry about it.
>>what's the shortest amount of time you can enlist for
4 active + 4 inactive. Don't worry about it, just sign up. The time will end up meaning nothing to you.
>>were you deployed? If so, how long do you have to stay innasandbox and what's the likelyhood I would too? (Not worried, just wondering)
Marines are lucky here. We do 6mo deployments. Army mostly gets stuck with fking 12mo's! However, you are very likely to end up in a unit which goes on at least one Marine Expeditionary Unit (aka MEU, you can google either term) in which you will sail from port to port in semi exotic or classy countries, cross training with other units and doing humanitarian missions as needed. I'd estimate that you will do one MEU and one combat deployment. That's a good mix, it's what I did for my first 4 years of active duty and was an excellent mix of life experiences. I went back in for more combat, if that tells you anything. You're probably a little nervous about things but don't worry. Everyone always is, especially about the combat thing. It's actually pretty interesting stuff to experience.

No, you're fine. They are unable to check that kind of stuff. The only problem would be if you used your college transcripts for increased pay.

I would order your transcripts and read them over, checking for some mental health think like that. They probably won't read too carefully but there's no point in making yourself nervous over this.

The key here is to not mention anything. Plus, if you're too scared to lie to a MEPS officer, you probably won't do well getting shot at.

Corpsman can either go FMF and be cool guys on the ground working with marines in battle or can sit in an office taking blood, dosing out ibuprofen and keeping up medical records either in a cozy office on a ship or on shore. Either one is a pretty good gig. But if you want to go FMF it's not guaranteed you have to be selected. Otherwise you'll enjoy most of your career handing out ibuprofen to sailors bitching about headaches or misdiagnosing real illnesses.

The references I will use will be my childhood friends whom are part of an entirely different social circle, 10/10 lads, who don't smoke nor drink, aspirations in law enforcement, etc.

>I was also hospitalized one time because I had a bad mushroom trip.
This is risky bro, I don't know the process but when it comes to medical records, but the general consensus is to tell the truth - coz it's likely they will find out since it's something that is on paper somewhere...

>I want to fly cool shit.
Likewise my man, I'm getting fucking anxious too. My grades aren't too good though, been mostly dicking around at the CC, transferring in about a year for EE. That will give me a clean slate to get that GPA up, coz it's competitive af coz slots are limited for OCS.

But I might just drop out after I get my AA (Physics) within a year. I've been really thinking about becoming a Green Beret (SF).

Decisions decisions...

Being sleep deprived while doing sales vs when you are at SFAS isnt the same thing at all. You cant even compare the 2.

you really arent. i appreciate the help but the FAQ really didnt answer any of my questions. im thinking of joining as security forces, people here thinks its a bad idea and now im asking about other jobs

Anyway im just saying that other anon was saying about how hard branches are to get into and the fucking line scores are in the FAQ.
Plus 99% of people ask about admitting drug use which is also covered in the FAQ.
>If they cant prove it, it never happened

Anyway again Security Forces is gonna suck but if its what you want go for it. I personally wouldnt but then again i wouldnt join the AF either.

So I know I can't keep firearms with me when I live in base, and have to keep them in the armory. What CAN I keep with me in the barracks though?

I was just naming off a few examples of types of weapons that aren't guns, I don't actually plan on keeping a spear. I was mainly interested in knives and tasers, so if I go out on the town I throw something on my belt without having to check my CCW out of the armory.

I'll do my best with this broad ass question.
I've met one weak LT and he was the worst, most incompetent PL I had ever seen. Physically a stud, but he was a bitch and junior enlisted were making decisions because he couldn't.

He also ran over a ~$30,000 pair of Vectors in the field with a Stryker. That was some funny shit.

My current PL is a good man, strong leader. He'll be going to get his tab next spring. My CO is an honorable man, he earned his tab about 5 years ago and led men successfully when he was in the Korengal Valley.

There's good ones and bad ones. If you're an infantry officer you either get your Ranger tab or you don't make it.

One dude's been with his ODA for about a year and a half, but the other 2 1/2 years he's spent in the army was either in holdover or training. There's a lot of shit to go through to get into SF.

Hope you can physically run 10 miles at a 7 minute mile pace, climb rope like nothing, bench bodyweight + easily, and ruck 12 miles in less than 3 hours. That ain't half the bullshit you'll have to do. A lot of SFAS is what the cadre and peers think of you. I had the chance to meet one of the chief instructors of SFAS a little while ago and the dude gave us the real deal - it ain't what you expect it. You just gotta take it day by day and be the best you can be. Trust is hard to earn, easy to lose.

>>30944191
I'm infantry, it's pretty sweet but 90% of the dudes you'll meet either want out right away or plain don't belong in the infantry. The 10% want to be Rangers, SF, 1SG, Drill Sgts, etc. Stay away from bad apples.
>>
>>30944230
why'd they join if they hate it?
>>
>>30944235
I can answer that. Because they don't know what to expect. They think they know what it's like being infantry, but they don't. Even I going in, having tried to do a lot of research and talk to former/current grunts, know that I don't REALLY know what it's like living as an infantryman, or if I'll like it or not. I THINK I will, but may be wrong.

Ive pretty much heard all that physical stuff as well as the character part since there are peer reviews and stuff. Im honestly not worried about that cause thats what everyone says. Im more interested in per se what do the SF guys think about their own jobs?
Do they love being SF?
Does it suck being deployed so much?
is it worth it though?
Once apart of SF where do they go from there?
Are there special assignments even within SF like CIF teams or something?
Whats it like stateside for SF guys?
>>
Any general tips for someone joining infantry and hopefully SF awhile later?
>>
Question;
If I go for some basic infantry tier shit, and don't need a security clearance, do they still intierview people you know? The only reason I Ask is because I don't have many friends or people in my family that think highly of me, so I feel like that would really fuck me over.

The ones that do think somewhat highly of me have seen me at my lowest, so once again, I don't think that would be good either.
>>
>>30944277
>Do they love being SF?
Yeah, they're in it for the career. They love the job and what it entails. It's hard to get there and they stick around for as long as they can. Also until they get MSG or if they become a Zulu they'll be with the same bros for years.

>Does it suck being deployed so much?
Only complaint I've heard is one dude's kid gives their mom a hard time. The dudes don't mind since it's only 6 months.

>is it worth it though?
To the ones who aren't ordinary people, yes.

>Once apart of SF where do they go from there?
I don't understand the question entirely. I've met guys who went CAG, who went black-side SOF. That's as far as I know they can go.

>Are there special assignments even within SF like CIF teams or something?
Yes, but I don't know too extensively. Sometimes ODA's will compete for dudes if they like the way they look.

>Whats it like stateside for SF guys?
They train for 6 months and deploy for 6 months. They've got exclusive ranges and they train with big army units sometimes.

>>30944284
Get immaculately fit, don't be a fuck up, don't be a shitbag. Train for SFAS from the day you decide you want to be SF.

But isnt the tempo very high? Like 6 months every year?

>>30944328
>To the ones who aren't ordinary people, yes.
This is what im most interested in though, please either add to or dispel this myth. Are they actually that different compared to yourself or the average person? What really sets them apart? For example what are you lacking that they have?

>>30944328
>I've met guys who went CAG
Thats exactly what i meant, can you gimme some details on this, what have your interactiosn with CAG people been like? PLus i thought that was spoopy shit so how do you even know that or is it like an open secret?

>They train for 6 months and deploy for 6 months.
Whens the break though? Is that 6 months stateside broken up at all to provide downtime?
>>
>>30944360
>But isnt the tempo very high? Like 6 months every year?
I do believe that's how it's done.

> Are they actually that different compared to yourself or the average person?
They're trained differently and they're usually 18x guys or had been in the army for a minute.

>What really sets them apart?
Training, knowledge

> For example what are you lacking that they have?
I don't have the training, and I have not considered going SF. Most people lack the integrity and the 7 core values.

>what have your interactiosn with CAG people been like?
Hanging out with a guy I was gonna escort to the airport, on the ride we talked about the army and I asked what he had done. He was Ranger, went SF, then CAG. He's a quiet dude, works for the govt doing simple shit like camera systems.

> PLus i thought that was spoopy shit so how do you even know that or is it like an open secret?
It ain't that spoopy. CAG selection isn't even as long or demanding as SF selection / school or Ranger school.

>What the hell is that???
Literally the part of the SOF iceberg that's underwater.

>Why though, is one team better than another?
Some ODA's are shitty, that is due to the people in them. They'll either never make E8 or wash out.

>Whens the break though? Is that 6 months stateside broken up at all to provide downtime?
Pretty sure they get a month of leave when they get home, might get a month before deploying, I do not know really.
>>

I don't know a whole fuckton. The guy I was talking to does CSI combat now. Finger prints, DNA, working with IED's, all sorts of cool shit. He was in Africa for 2 years waiting to infil into a certain country and got just to the border before it got scrapped.

>Wait seriously?
Yes, and it's not just PNN. Like I said, talked to the chief instructor of SFAS. He said it's just a different animal. Ranger school is probably by far the hardest school the army has to offer.
>>

>>
>>30944468

You've never seen CSI Miami? DAMN DUDE.

>He was staioned in africa for 2 years straight and then the program got scrapped?
Yes, they were training and basically sitting on the border of a country waiting to infil at any moment. He said that he was sitting in a UH60 banking into said country as the whole shabang got called off. He said other SOF units were making a mockery of his unit because white-side was doing more dirty shit than black-side.

>What's that?
Private News Network. The gayest, most bullshit gossip that starts in BCT / OSUT and doesn't ever, ever end.

>Really? Why's that? Isn't it pretty short?
Almost all Rangers will recycle at least one phase. Overall it's a 61 day school, but imagine living on 2 MRE's a day, rucking 20 hours a day, and sleeping 1-3 hours a night if you're lucky. For 61 days. Mix in the whole stress of needing to pass peers, cadre, and patrols. That ain't half the BS in it.

Don't lie on your lie detector test about anything. Secret clearance is given out like candy, few people lose them or don't get them. Elaborate on 1N4 / 1N5

>3D1X2 master race
^this seems like a great one but more on the CS rather than EE which is what I am into (Hardware)
How great is the job and is there anything like that closer to electrical engineering?
>>
>>30946427
I was RF Trans for less than a year.

The job included:
1. Fucking with RF trailers/antennas (this was a while back, so I don't remember the name of the antenna.. but that trailer was a pain in the ass)
2. Sitting in the freezing ass cold in the HF van writing down HF broadcasted alphanumerics (some guy saying Alpha, Whiskey, Seven, Yankee, etc., etc. for hours for an exercise and you had to write it down).

As for 1N4, what I've seen is:
1. Look at signals, forward certain ones to 3 letter agency
2. Open up a window, capture text and forward it somewhere

What I've seen of 1N5s:
1. Get linguist/elint generated products
2. Correlate with other intel
3. Analyze
4. Forward to customers / post to databases
5. Also, make ppts

Yes, Cyber Transport is more CS than EE.

Most of the EE-related fields are dumbed down so much, you aren't going to learn anything past what they teach in Electronic Principles (now IT fundamentals). So you might as well just go Cyber Transport, since they get EP.

If you want real Electrical Engineering, you're going to want to find a college program for that. Job skills training in the AF is very basic. It's made for tards, because most actually smart people wouldn't put up with this shit for long.
>>
>>30946546
Thanks for the clarification. Heard RF trans transfers over to the civilian world well so I'll still keep it as a 2nd option

1N4 / 1N5 looks alright but not my thing

Cyber transport seems like my best bet (But I personally avoid CS like the plague because its oversaturated and I don't like using a terminal that much). But it would be my first choice and RF Trans being a close second

>Job skills training in the AF is very basic. It's made for tards, because most actually smart people wouldn't put up with this shit for long.

I started to realize that when I was looking at most of the jobs. Some of the IT stuff has a great name behind it but most people come out doing something like Helpdesk.

It's best to join strait out of high school. Unless you go officer.
