If you consider, that a drone with hellfire missile basically does the same, costs more plus needs human control and supervision,... not too dumb.

But maybe training dogs, dolphins or monkeys (depending on the terrain) is still cheaper.

Maybe if soldiers die, but otherwise $30,200 of ammunition seems like a lot to me

jdam kits now run at $27,000 according to wiki, in 2011.
Plus you have to take in consideration the cost of logistics and transport to drop area.
Planes ain't free to fly.

Suicide bot looks more, and more viable.

Why does it have to be a suicide bot? If it's smart enough to rapidly navigate terrain, you could likely have it engage enemies with mounted guns or melee.

What is build to a different scale?
Or you could build a fleet of spider mines with the budget of one cheetah.
Not to mention its only fast on flat ground and is crippled with one limb loss.
They built it to get enough attention to be bought out. It worked. Its a novelty.

Six motors and spring legs is the way to go.

Automatically adjusts to rough ground, dont care if it slips just keeps going making course changes with each revolution. Skitters like a roach which triggers primal fear, especially if you cant see them but hear them coming.
Can swim.
Can jump.
Low profile hard to see hard to hit.
A hardened shell and spring legs means it could be run over and not care. Just presses to the ground like a speed bump. Could flood a road and let friendlies pass right through.
Small enough to be deployed from under a vehicle like land torpedoes.

I dont think you are seeing everything here.

They couldn't be too small or that would significantly limit the entity's a.i. capabilities and actual pay-load, but maybe like man-hole cover sized with legs, and thats a valid fucking idea.

It couldn't run on heat-sigs either, cause the easiest counter would just be camp-fires and flares.

This would, if panels remain undamaged and it is able to be deployed out doors, the ability to potentially lay dormant, and "conscious" until the degradation of internal components? I.e. fucking years.
>>
>>30914331
Exactly this.

You can also have the mariachi bots or whatever (although they'd probably have, you know, guns) and while those draw attention and fire, the little ones zip in and blow people up.
>>
>>30913979
>LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, START YOUR ENGINES
>>
>>30914394
It dont take much these days to run at a laser dot or gps waypoint commands.

Each bot dont need to think just act when needed.

Litter an area with them and have an auto sentry laze anything that moves and doesn't flash friend codes.

Flocking algorithms are pretty basic so running in formation or deploying the closest spider mine to the target can be handled automatically.
Clear your minefield with a single recall command? Yes please.

Fucking static defense, A small perimeter defense force of little eyes, backed by explosives.

And light scouting groups of light payload entities, capable of better than human speed, and more covert. Also being completely disposable, while still being eyes on the ground.

Holy fuck.

Alright now /k/ jesus christ.
>>
>>30914561
Now we only need to make them able to build more of themselves
>>
>>30914561
>Following up on the static defense.
It's a minefield, but without the expensive and dangerous removal ops later, also being capable of small attack runs, or repositioning in the future.
Solves the problem with mines since their invention
Conflict ends, you just call the spiders home
Pick them up, put them in a box, GG
>>
>>30914522
I was playing command and conquer and instead of building the scud missiles, I built a mile long convoy of explosive suicide trucks. Then set them to drive to target and explode bit they could only go two abreast because they were in each others way.
The first one got to the target and exploded which dry off the one behind it and so on. There were so many that the convoy still had a portion of itself waiting to pull out of my base and add the explosions continued back down the line it reached the mass of them still waiting to leave. They all exploded and destroyed most of the structures. I lost the battle and the game. So, great fucking idea is all I'm saying.

Dont just think in go boom terms. A modular rail system to put claymores/mines? Sure. What about electronically fired ammo tubes?

Now you can call in 40mm out of no where, or add a burst of rifle or pistol rounds to the charge before detonation.
Not to mention the robot can jump. Popping up from anywhere and letting off a burst mid flip.

Think about the "Tracking point" software. Wont fire till the shot is lined up with the per-designated target.

That target could be a 16 bit flashing laser blob calling in the closest gun pack in that caliber.
>>
>>30914220
How is this not violating WMD laws? I thought vehicle able to guide themselves autonomously were automatically considered missiles and fell into the category WMD and were illegal to manufacture, own or operate without proper very hard to get permits.

And... Lets not forget we live in the age of guided bullets! So I guess aiming is not needed on the bots end, just a general direction.
The bullet can pick up the laser from a closer bot in mid flight at the last minute.

So send a few roachbots to crawl out to ridge line via gps waypoints and chill. They dont even need dip.

This desu famalam.

A quadcopter with a little grenade sized bomb that would fly over cover and obstacles to deliver the payload with inerring accuracy would be terrifying. those things can get moving crazy fast when they want to. Would be extremely difficult to shoot one down, and if you don't, boom.
Command and Conquer 3 had a unit that threw grenades, which had pretty similar fluff:

You know what can do literally any terrain? Sneks.

Dirt? Snek.
Rubble? Snek.
Gravel? Snek.
Water? Snek.
Maximum incline sand slope? Snek. Only snek. None other than snek.

Snek locomotion also comes with the bonus of being inherently quiet. The only problem is that it's only 10% efficient and slow in body lengths per second. The saving grace is that its body length is long for a given mass.
