Rinks was the worst gouger during Clintons ban and during the rescent panic. They tripled the price of that cheap chines steel case the day they singed the importban. I'm in NW Indiana so complete opposite end of Chicagoland from the North Shore/WI, but there's a government-owned outdoor range about an hour East of the IN/IL border. 5 dollars a person to shoot all day. Only downside is that they're strict about enforcing a round 1 a second max shooting speed.

There's a few dicks, but nothing past your usual range/gun store staff. People who complain are the ones who expect service like a car dealership when shooting (read: haven't visited many ranges).

The RSOs are stern, lots of people complain about Bob but he's a nice guy if you aren't a dick to him. Youve got to imagine the amount of suburban shit they have to deal with, I've seen some real fucking morons there before.

Went there a week or two ago and had some '47 Russian 7.62x54R that I didn't know was steel core. Didn't pass magnet test so I asked if I could keep behind counter while shooting, he said that's fine. After shooting he showed me a steel plate from the backstop that steel core had gone through and told how they were having problems with copper jackets ricocheting back from steel cores. He thanked me for not putting up a fuss when told I couldn't use that ammo and how you get a tin of guys that freak out and raise a big stink because they can't bring their green tip in.

Their rentals aren't bad but you have to use range ammo which they sell for $20/box of 9mm, not sure about other calibers.

In short, don't go there expecting to get your dick sucked. Go to shoot, know what you're doing, and leave. If you want a comfy, inviting experience then I'd advise seeking elsewhere.

I mean not everything I've seen is terrible, there's some interesting spots and as I previously said Hoosiers tend to be rather upbeat despite the decrepit small towns that I keep seeing. Maybe I haven't seen enough of the state, I go to school at BSU in Muncie so most of what I've seen of Indiana comes from the area surrounding Muncie and Indy. There was some nice innawoods-ish areas a couple hours south of Gary, but that's the only area so far I've found that's in any way appealing.
