To be honest there's no one place where you can find a balanced viewpoint. You can try reading m4carbine.net, lightfighter, and Primary & Secondary but people who post about this shit on the internet are usually opinionated to a fault. You kind of have to do a lot of your own reading to try and get a more balanced picture.

If you can swing it having two separate carriers for overt and low-vis work is nice. Some people would prefer to use one carrier for both and clip on a chest rig to increase load bearing for overt work. This is helpful from a cost perspective obviously.

My setup is a LBT 6094 plate carrier for geared up with plates and no soft armor (better suited for rural or woods work, or muh home defense). I've got a SDS RACK coming in the mail so that'll be used either alone for patrolling or over a low-vis BALCS carrier (soft armor + plates) for urban environments.

What is the "Spine plate sleeve" for? Do you bother with sideplates? How much does that affect mobility?

I'm in suburbia, Most people, if they are armed, would be using pistols or shotguns. That said, I'd be getting the fuck out so I think I can pass on soft armor.

No idea what they mean by spine plate sleeve. Unless that's just a weird way of describing the back platebag. No sideplates right now. I'm up in the air on whether I want them but I have more pressing needs. Mobility is pretty good. If sized properly you should have almost no loss of range of motion. Just obviously more fatiguing to move in because of the weight of armor and the reduced breathability.

Are you a reenactor? I used to be with the LSSAH, but shortly after my first reenactment I joined the Army. Got out in 2011, but never thought about going back to reenacting. Getting shot at for real was enough, plus the money, finding the time to do it, plus everyone there was old and fat so it wasn't very realistic to me. Still I have immense respect for anyone who does it to try and educate the public about German soldiers in WWII. Just wasn't for me. Still have all my gear though.

I'm using a split MAV from tac tailor because I love how light it is and how it feels. I'm using double mag pouches on the front, radio/IFAK on the left, and a holster and grenade pouch with cam paint on the right. There's a hydration carrier on the rear.

There are actually 3 pockets where the rifle mags go. But, you're only going to be able to shove 2 in there at a time. Each pocket is a different size so you can accommodate different styles of magazines.

Of course I only habe AR mags to test it out on, so I can't provide any insight as to what else will fit in it. So far just tension does the job of keeping everything from falling out. And it holds my 10 round mags which is the main reason I wanted it.

When you put in a order, screenshot the confirmation page instead of expecting an email because you most likely won't get one.
