Holy shit what a big guy.

Now, when one look at it, it seems that the Type 055 will become a huge fucking battlecruiser-sized ship.

And the Chinese are calling it a mere "Heavy Destroyer", kinda like taking inspiration from the Japanese and their flexible definition of "destroyers".

And comparisson with the earlier 12.000 ton coast guard cutter built in the same dry-dock - the white building infront of it is a good measuring tool.

draught should be at least 9 meters on the 055. More than a Slava-class or even the Zumwalt.

The bigger they are, then easier to hit.

More news; 052D production ongoing. 13th confirmed, which disproves the notion that they will stop at 12.

This one seems to be a new block, which features the 11 barreled Type 1130 CIWS instead of the Type 730 7-barreled one.

The 2nd shipyard to produce the 052D destroyer, Dalian, is also churning them out pretty fast - despite their more 'primitive' way of building them under open skies instead in a hall like Shanghai.

And the latest progress on the Type 001A improved Liaoning-class conventional powered aircraft carrier.

Flight deck is mostly finished; only the ski-jump prow is lacking and the island is yet to be installed. Should be launched by the end of the year.
Good speed, but the out-fitting period will probably take at least 2 years.

Well, if the 055 appears to be that large, they kind of need more of the 052D because only building 055 ones wouldn't be economic.

And lastly, a Sino-Russian navy drill in the South China Sea is scheduled for september this year.

Yeah, albeit is is said that the Type 055 would merely cost 300 million USD more than the 052D, while providing at least twice the amount of VLS-cells and another set of AESA radars, among other things.

052D is rumored to cost 550 Million per piece
055 is 800+ Million
054A Frigate is 250 Million USD, which is why it is being churned out like dumplings.

19 ships for the PLA Navy commissioned since beginning of the year. Not all are first-line combat related, such as three Type 903A supply and replenishment ships and five Type 072A amphibious tank landing ships, but still a pretty fast pace.

Only the US is still faster by some margin.

Its been known for a while that the 055 (12000 tons) was going to be somewhere between a Tico/Burke (9000 tons) and Zumwalt (15000 tons) in size.
>>
>>30809197

So is some dude going to get sent to a prison camp for taking all these photos?
>>
Too bad the Chinese can't figure out railguns
>>

nah, its like free propaganda for the Chinese
also Asians love military news

If the photos have been edited to remove details, it's the Chinese government putting the photos out in the first place.

>gun cwis

Meh.

Part of me understands the whole reason why the USN is moving away from the Tico class (2 burks are greater than one tico), but the dick waving is just so tireing....

The USN should go forword with the 288 VLS celled San Antonio class they kicked around in wargames. Its stupid, but the dicks must be waved and all that.

Setting aside that the Tico's themselves are not going anywhere anytime soon, I am looking forward to seeing more Burkes with SeaRAM's than just those 4 stationed in Italy.

Searam is standard, its all about getting the legacy systems out now.

And the US are losing a tico a year, with no replacement
>>

Actually, the HHQ-10 is not a rolling airframe missle.

Not?

It's dual-band IR/passive radio frequency seekers and its missile body with the spinning fins does look near identical, aside of the shape of said fins.

IIRC it is said that it actually rolls in flight as well.

What's the point of the Type 075? There's even talk of developing a STOVL fighter just for it which frankly looks like a waste of time when you could have real carriers do the job.

>>30811167
Nah, it does not roll.

Nothing inherently wrong with that, it just does not.

you know what they say about assumptions, right?

If you actually follow PLA rumors, you would know these are self censored. There were a couple of incidents where the photographers were called into have tea with Gong An.

https://news.usni.org/2016/02/09/fy-2017-budget-navy-wants-to-modernize-last-7-cruisers-instead-of-following-246-directive-from-congress

>Congress eventually came up with a 2/4/6 plan – two cruisers a year would enter a modernization period that could last no longer than four years, with no more than six cruisers in the yard for modernization at any given time. Though the Navy insisted this plan would drain service life from the cruiser fleet faster – with the last ship decommissioning in 2038 instead of in the early 2040s under their layup plan – the Navy began implementing it. USS Cowpens (CG-63) and USS Gettysburg (USS-64) went into modernization periods in FY 2015, and USS Vicksburg (CG-69) and USS Chosin (CG-65) will begin their modernizations this summer with FY 2016 funding.
>>
>>30812060
The last one will be decond in 2038 then.
